Share

Eight people died in Kapiri Mposhi district in the early hours of today in a road accident at
Mangala area along great north road.

Central province police commanding officer Simon Mpande who confirmed the accident to ZANIS in Kabwe today said the eight died at about 02:30hrs when a Scania Iriza bus belonging to Sumina company of Lusaka
rammed into a stationery truck.

Mr. Mpande said among the deceased eight people, were one woman aged 50 years and five males all from Mangala and a truck driver and a 14-year-old boy believed to have been a passenger on the truck and
another one passenger from the bus.

He said a co-driver of the bus, that carried 51 passengers, Dickson Mukuka 33, sustained a fractured leg while the rest of the passengers on the bus came out unhurt.

He explained that the truck overturned at Mangala area and covered part of the road and when the bus arrived, rammed into the trailer which went spinning and hit the villagers, six of them died on the spot including a woman.

Mr. Mpande, who wondered what the villagers went to do at the scene, said nine were seriously injured and some admitted to Kapiri hospital while others had been rushed to Kabwe general hospital.

Mr. Mpande said all the bodies of the deceased, are lying in Kapiri Mposhi hospital mortuary.

Meanwhile, Mr. Mpande has advised bus drivers not to travel in the night to avoid accidents.

He also urged villagers not to be so excited to rush to accident scenes unless they were called in to help.

  1. I`ll say this again. F****** stupi d roads, untrained drivers, unfit vehicles and an impotent government in place. MTSRIEP

  2. Lets use our resources to build safe roads and have public safety officers to clear roads of accident. Mulongoti, RB, Kunda, etc Mu poseko amano please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  3. My zambia has really become one big comedy….how i miss super kenneth and co!!!,at least those men and women had zambia,s intertests at heart. I mean,,why not devise a mechanism to stop this carnage once and for all..something like “long distance public transport should be parked by a stipulated time” or “have speed limits were roads are bad”..surely this is not rocket science that we continue seeing lives being wasted.but even if it was we surely should have the courage to have a go at it…definitley doesnt show much leadership on the part of the ruling bufoons really because this is quite elementary to say the least. come 2011 its zwaaaa and i will make sure my vote counts this time by being there…..”i rest my case” Ataa see!

  4. THE GOVERNMENT IS INVOLVED IN SATANISM. THESE ACCIDENTS THEY HAPPEN EVERY YEAR AROUND THIS PERIOD OF TIME AND MONTH. AM SURE SOME OF YOU HAVE OBSERVED THIS FOR SOME TIME. EVERY YEAR IN ZAMBIA THEY HAVE TO SACRIFICE SOME BLOOD TO FULFILL THEIR PROMISES. DISADVANTAGED ARE POOR PEOPLE MOVING UNKNOWINGLY. ANY ONE DOUBTING……TAKE A LOOK IN THIS MONTH NEXT YEAR, IT IS THE SAME THING. WE NEED PRAYERS EVERY TIME WE STEP OUT OF OUR DOORS. GOD SAVE US…..

  5. Iam sorry to say mmd but you sound like a demagogue……lol!! excuse me for taking this slant but just were is your basis of that point of view???……..or maybe i dont understand your logic!!..i thought accidents happen because of bad roads or rekless driving to mention a few!!…please educate me on why you think prayers will work……how many times do the chinese pray before they get the investment contracts!!!???…can you get my drift??

  6. No one even notices that people are dying on the roads, they are all busy either with the Post or committing corruption or other vices . Its a tragedy that leaders of this unfortunate country do not take responsibility for the carnage that is taking place on our roads. In civilised societies heads would be rolling but not in this sorry country bamambala are occupied with their mistresses at that brothel called Parliament motel. ( including you ci senior citizen – busy blogging)

  7. You do gs who blog on this site must sometimes throw your emmotions away and argue constructively if this ka cheap blogg called LT has to regain it’s old positive status.it’s like most of you have never widely travelled.the question of bad roads should not arise in this accident.the Kapiri-serenje stretch is one of the best roads this country have.the contractor DANIDA did a brilliant job and it’s evident that road has stood the test of time.these accidents are all happening due to one factor inexperienced drivers who are overwhelmed by fatigue. The only solution is to ban night travelling.that’s why it scared me stiff when that poor woman from RTSA came out defending the idea of night travelling.these guys do not rest.they have little time to rest in between their return journeys…

  8. We must a a national seriously do something about the poor state of our roads and also enhance road safety. The Great North Road after Isoka Turn off is turning into a Hell Run. Some sections of the road are so terrible no wonder we are having these accidents

  9. Its unfortunate that innocent villagers were killed. However they are not balme as Mr. Simon Mpande Cental Province Chief Buju is putting it. Of course there is always an element of sangwapo when ever a truck overturns and given the hard times pipo are facing, they have no choice. There is nothing wrong with the bus crews travelling at night sometimes its the pressure they face from owners who ensure that the buses must be on the road to meet certain financial commitments connected to acquisation of such units. What is happening to the RTSA patrols are they confined to day time only or its supposed to be twenty 24hras per day or random.

  10. Number 8 Akapondo..I partly agree with you. Infact generally the whole copperbelt – Lusaka route is in a good state. One thing to note though is that the age of the drivers also matters. Most of them are excited young men who derive pleasure from pushing the bus to it’s limit. UBZ maintained elderly drivers especially for the coaches and we sanity. The owners of the buses need to educate their drivers on safety. If you are driving on these roads try overtaking these buses on a straight road. You have to do 160km/hr to overtake them. Meaning he is doing probably 140km/hr and carrying over 50 passengers. RTSA should also really ban night travelling. Overall we need strong safety regulations to enforced.
