MMD confident of scooping Solwezi central

Share

Vice President George Kunda says the Movement for Multi-Party Democracy) MMD is confident of retaining the Solwezi central constituency parliamentary seat in today’s by-election.

Mr Kunda said the MMD has done its best and accomplished its mission of convincing the electorates in Solwezi central constituency to vote for Albert Chifita as he is the only credible candidate who has a heart to save them.

The Vice President was speaking during his rally at Kimiteto basic school to drum up support for MMD candidate Albert Chifita in tomorrow’s Solwezi central by election in Solwezi yesterday.

Mr Kunda advised all political parties to adhere to the rules of finishing their campaigns today at 18 hours and ensure that the elections are held in a free and fair environment.

He therefore thanked all MMD political party officials for making the campaigns for the Solwezi central constituency parliamentary by-election a success and urged them to continue with the same spirit t of strengthening the party.

And Mr.Chifita appealed to the electorates to vote for him because he was the only credible candidate they have lived with when he was District Commissioner who knows their problems.

He pleaded to the electorates to forgive him today if he had wronged anyone during his execution of duty when he was District Commissioner.

The Solwezi Central seat was left vacant after the death of area MP Ben Tetamashimba, who was also Local Government minister.

Mr. Watson Lumba is standing on the UPND/Pf pact ticket, FDA has Muhammad Kalela and Thomas Kafula is standing on an independent ticket.

  1. MMD has not carried out any of it’s promises in the last 20 years. It is true when they say a leopard does not change it’s spots.

  2. What a useless party. What have they done for the past 20 years? Why do we keep recycling politicians in Zambia? I hope it will be a Kasama deja-vous in Solwezi.

  3. Well, Kunda said the same thing in Kasama too and yet the results were the opposite. Red lipped snake munee, this is not the judiciary where you can intimidate the likes Judge Musonda or the DPP, this is the electorate, your masters. If, as I suspect, the MMD losses this seat, there bells should toll even louder for Kanitundila, maybe this time it will be “Kaninyelela”. As for Kunda, the days are numbered. If MMD losses once again it will be incumbent on Kanitundila to fire Jere and Kunda and start the long processes of reparkaging himself or else he is doomed.

  4. My heart is with the SOLWEZIANS. Please do what is right. Though I dont belong to any political party, I think a loss by MMD may just make them rethink on how they are misgoverning us. May be they will start to respect the people God gave them to serve. AMEN

  5. Solwezi People can you please be part of the redeemer? Can you please make this government realize that they owe everything to the electorate by voting them out? I wish I was registered in Solwezi and these chaps would never have had my vote. We depend on you Solwezi. Start the ball rolling. Kasama people were very smart.

  6. Ba George why are you so confident of winning? Are you still making use of VJ? Solwezi is for the PACT. Be ready for the results. MMD azalila lelo.

  7. Democracy dictates that there can only be one winner in any election. The secret ballot verdict must be respected by democrats unlike anarchists who later turn “sole losers” because of their unrealized value for the shredded money. Anarchists are naturally one dimensional minded chaps. They have no respect for voters’ right of choice. To them, any loss is because of rigging. We should all emulate MMD in taking defeat with dignity. Kaponyalism has no place but public disdain.

  8. MMD is the mother and father of this country’s young but steadfastly growing functional Democracy. Unlike the two kaponyas Sata and HH who have imported loads and loads of their fellow kaponyas with the Chawama and mapatizyo thuggery option, tenaciously MMD has its eyes on the ball with issue based campaigns. With much restraint it has an enduring and trust worthy alliance with real voters. It campaigns with dignity and takes the ballot verdict with dignity. Imported kaponyas are not voters but a bad value for money the HakaSata kaponya seems not to know. MMD will respect the ballot power with dignity as always.

  9. The heavy rains in Solwezi may spoil the votes and make MMD win. May they heavens clear the skies so that every live voter will go and cast his vote. Ba GK its too late if the pipo’s mind has changed then lets forget . As for Albert there is no ned to apologise if you wronged pipo of Solwezi while doing the right thing for their benefit. The result of the by election will unmask the political strategies of Kabinga Pande, Elija Julaki Muchima, Richard Taima and others who were camped in Solwezi for almost a month. Vote wisely and dont regret.

  10. I would like to warn these PACT people , yes the MMD will lose today ,but please ensure you do not accept these MMD People to jump into the PACT and cause confusion or in short do not accept them just recruite new members we now tired of these bootlickers.

  11. Voting is going on well in solwezi central parliamentary election,,,but I have seen VJ here. I do not know what he is doing may be he is voting. I can not say much,,,, as I wanted to know what he was doing,,,,!! one person told me,,,are you new in this country that you vote where u come from,,,,,I asked,,, is mwaanga from this area,,,, the person respondend without wasting any minute yes!!!!! I am quiet…!! I just hope,, he vote wisely….this is bringing me to the point I mentioned sometime ago that the pact must be careful in selecting a presidential candidate…otherwise,,,,if sata becomes a president,, he will not win,,,,,he will lose western, north-westen, central and southern,, then the game is over…!!! most of the province do not want sata as a president believe me!!!!!

  12. do not measure popularity of sata in town areas like copperbelt and Lusaka,,,,!!!! these can change to any one… remember mazoka he once won Lusaka and can happen now to any one.!!!!!!!!! sata has experience which is required to any government but he must allow young boy to head this pact of yours!! Just like what chipemo had said,,, memory of 1964 is still very fresh in the mind of south people where nkumbula was told to join kaunda…..!!!! Chizyuka was removed just to make it as if they do not want to bring tribe statements here…!!!! but the reality HH must be allowed to contest and sata as vice president to head government affairs,,,chiluba did the same with wina….!!! otherwise this pact will have a very big problem!!!

  13. I hear MMD is ferrying voter using unregistered vehicle. Isnt that foul play??? Anyway we are confident Solwezi people will do us proud. Kizito I concur with you 100%, if Sata does not give way to the young HH to head the pact, both he and HH are finished. I for one cannot vote for Sata come rain come sunshine and there are many in my shoes. Not for any selfish reason but it is for the conviction that Sata is not what Zambia needs at this time and era. So, I hope Sata will do the right thing to give to new generation the chance rule.

  14. #19, 20 Kizito- The pact is in a delicate situation.Last election Sata had 683,150 v0tes, HH, 353,018 and Rupiah 718,355 therefore beating Sata by less than 2%. This is inspite of losing all the provinces you have mentioned. So you can see that HH is only able to win Southern Province and therefore he is not likely to bring victory to the PACT. However me being a Zambian who lives in Zambia, I would like these two gentlemen to strike a balance for the sake of saving mother Zambia from these MMD vermin. If only the NCC was not biased towards MMD, the solution would lie in having an elected VP, a position one these two presidents can take up. They both need to be on the ballot paper to achieve victory, but the MMD will ensure that this clause is not adopted or delay the new consititution.

  15. 22 Deja Vu: You very right your figure is correct but you have to know that people did not believe HH can have chance to beat Rupiah. The whole of thing of not to allow sata win the elections. Remember, if sata stands he will get the same figure you are mentioning now because all the people voted for HH will now turn to Rupiah banda. it difficult for you to understand my assessments but trust me, sata will have no chance……I say HH will have chance because mostly likely will take the provinces I had mentioned earlier including copperbelt and Lusaka,, he may not manage Luapula and part northen,,, it is posible for people to vote HH than SATA. You may not believe but you will at certain stage… they say if it is not banda then it is HH not sata.

  16. Dear Solwezians, please maintain the record set by the Kasama voters recently, kick the MMD in the teeth and show them the EXIT. The corrupt, selfish and dictatorial MMD leadership has completely erased the democracy we fought for and they have driven the country back to the dark ages of UNIP. Let’s embrace the spirit of the Kasama electorates and build the momentum for 2011 when we shall once and for all send MMD into oblivion and obscurity where they will join their twin sister UNIP. Enough is ENOUGH.

  17. no. 20 Kizito which year exactly did Mazoka win Lusaka? I have been in Lusaka Central for over 20 years and that never happened. Back to the really issue I too worry about Sata ability at that level (but I do think he can not do worse than Kanitundila) However, as No. 22 Deja Vu rightly points out the numbers do not lie. HH’s vote in the last two elections has been exteremely regional. Having said all that lets deal with issues of leadership in the PACT immediately after they win Solwezi – Aluta continua

  18. #23 Kizito. Iam not a Sata supporter, but being here at home(forget the flag), crude as Sata may be to you guys overseas he is more popular than HH and RB. Its a fact and puzzle to many followers of Politics. Infact my assertion in last election was that HH should have allowed SATA take over and him as VP. The position could have given HH a plaform to market himself through out Zambia for the 2011. Ask yourself why(rumour?) HH is willing to take the VP post. The only thing hindering the decision is the dilly dallying by the NCC on the VP status like I mentioned. If HH is to win as President he will need Sata. Like it or not the man has a following. He failed in some places due to lack of representatives. It very precarious. We need not disrupt this chance. Am basing on facts on the ground.

  19. 26 Deja: It is true but who is going to allow HH to market himself…!!!! This is where the problem will be!!SATA will not allow any person to take up the position of the president if he is not a bemba…!!! This is the problem….HH can take the vice president only if the constitution does allow it.. That is the point of UPND.. Remember, they are very educated than your man.
so I can see Rupiah Banda winning by wider margin this time…!!!! All these parties wre formed because of people like sata,, they will remind that it is sata who chased Mazoka….myfriend even if you have a problem in your skull,, you can not vote this man.

  20. VIVA the PF/UPND!!! Viva LUMBA! mmd go and do your home! Why do people want change? mmd what have you done for the people of Zambia?

  21. Kizito, is it difficult for you to talk about your problems in MMD? Why cant you leave the PACT alone. What a poor analysis. Who is cheating you that there will be RB in 2011? Watchout for a strong opposition yet to emerge within MMD that will leave you candidate spineless.
