The Committee of Citizens (CC) has added its voice in condemning alleged tribal remarks uttered by Science and Technology Minster Gabriel Namulamba.

Committee executive director Gregory Chifire says the remarks attributed by Mr. Namulamba if unchecked have the potential to bring about division among the people in the country.

Speaking in an interview with ZANIS in Lusaka today, Mr. Chifire said this is why there is need for President Rupiah Banda to put in place serious disciplinary measures that will curtail ministers’ against making remarks that are likely to cause confusion.

Mr. Chifire noted that politics of tribalism should not be entertained at all costs adding that there is need for President Banda to act on the matter immediately.

Science and Technology Minster Gabriel Namulamba has come under fire after been quoted as having said that the Lamba people feel frustrated, hurt and injured that some people have publicly declared that they hated late president Mwanawasa who they alleged was corrupt.

In another development Mr. Chifire has called on government to intensify sensitization on the mobile issuance of National Registration Cards (NRC) especially among the rural communities.

Mr. Chifire pointed out that an NRC is an important document that every Zambian above the age of 16 must have adding that this is why government should take it upon itself and ensure that people are helped to understand the exercise.

He observed that the exercise is been shunned in most parts of the country because many people lack adequate information on what they are expected to do when an exercise is been undertaken in their area.

The CC chief further advised government through the ministry of Home Affairs to devise sensitization programmes aimed at educating local people on the importance of the exercise.

Mr. Chifire also added that government should consider engaging traditional leaders to help in convincing their subjects on the issue.

He explained that traditional leaders have a significant role to play and ensure that their subjects understand government programmes.

  1. # 1 At a Glance: The in thing to day in Zambia is to find a way to support RB so that he can either give you a kapoto mu GRZ or a brown envelop. And the only way you can attract publicity is to form a fake organisation such as the Committee for Citizens. Come to think of it, me as a Citizen I dont remember authorising any one to represent me so I wonder which Citizens Mr Cifire is talking on behalf.

  7. The indiscipline is having chaps like this Chifire speaking on behalf of GRZ on matters were RB knows he has no support, hopeless stooges.

  8. Propaganda will not work. We all know all forgotten sweethearts are in government. If you know somebody who is close to RB you are rewarded at the expense of development. People can see clearly now what is happening. People have spoken no more riding on LPM to gain political mileage. RB what a chance you have missed to make a name in your old age after you had retired……..

  9. We should not forget that Mr. Banda is the biggest bigotted tribalist this country has ever known. Namulambe may be wrong but we dont know the reasons behind his rantings. Knowing RB, he could have said something like “ABA BALAMBA BALEMONA KWATI EBANTU BEKA, UMULULANDU FYE WA MUYASHI.” Check the news – you will mass resignations from government by one group of people. Things have gone bad. Anus Lickers like Veteran deliberately look the other, but reality is reality. People talk in bars, taverns while some one tells the RB that thing are ok.

  10. ka Chifire just shut up if you have nothing to say we know you are looking for a job form Nyama soya. on mobile nrc sentisation you are right. most rural communities are not aware of the exercise.

  11. Sebana wikute mwandi Chifine… or sorry Chifire! But you are very foolish Chifine.. or sorry Chifiwe, sorry I keep spellng your name wrong, what are you called?

  12. Chifire you are a failure who has little knowledge on national issues. You failed at CBU in second year because you have no brains. You people think you can make RB popular by speaking s.h.i.t.Infact you are making him vey unpopular. PLEASE GIVE US A BREAK!!!!!

  13. Can someone point out what RB brought on the table to Zambian people apart from scandles
    (1) Dollar Siliya (2) Kafupi acquital ( 3) The oil import saga (4) RP capital. Chiluba brought Manda Hill and Arcades .Mwanawasa brought lumwana mine .What about RB?

  14. Chifire, when Rupiah told your fellow easterners to chase away non-easterners from the province you and your so-called committee of citizens never condemned him for his naked tribalism. Tell us why you were silent about it. As for me like #3 Deja Vu you don’t represent me on your biased, irelevant and tribal CC. By the way what is the composition of this CC, I bet it is dominated by Easterners.

  15. Mulishani bonse
This is my first time to hear that there is also a “Bürgerkomitee” or Committee of Citizens in Zambia. Principally, it is always a good concept to have one but they should make sure that they’re not biased or controlled by the president. I also hope that the committee is not made up of political opportunists. Power belongs to the people!

  16. HE NEEDS TO DISCIPLINE HIMSELF FIRST BEFORE HE DOES, OTHERS. HE IS THE MOST INDISCIPLINED PRESIDENT WE EVER HAD IN ZAMBIA. LYING, BRIBING, CORRUPTION, DEADHOOD, ETC, ARE SERIOUS MORAL OFFENCES.

  17. Gregory Cifire+ZNBC+Daily Mail+Times x Lifwekelo+Citizen=SEBANA ULYE

  18. in the equatoin above, it is supposed to read senior citizen and not citizen, for it to balance.

  19. This Chifire can only see the tribalism of non-easterners. Fortunately everybody in Zambia knows who the Number 1 and real tribalist is. The opposition parties should disseminate this to the other parts of Zambia. Once again, I wish to state that MMD cannot discipline those two Lamba guys because that will lead to the total end of MMD on the Copperbelt.

  20. Ati Committee of what? Ata bane……….you bunch of do-no-gooders can go and lick your feet. Committee of what again? Oh boy! Zed is going nuts. As for Veteran, hmmmmnnnn! You just need an appointment with a psychiatrist period. Your vision is so warped. You dont believe in dynamics, let alone understand the concept. To you,if grade one selection was being done by reaching for the left ear with the right hand, it must stay that way for ever and ever…..what kind of myopia is this? The Rainbow coalition in Kenya dislodged KANU and you want Zambia to remain in the same single party government just because your grandfather or whoever your mentor is said so……..Sorry mudala, the PACT train is on its way and fast gathering speed and passengers. Ukashala muli mwamoneni mudala!!Take heed!

  21. Puma and Namulambe and indeed any of their lamba colleagues must be shown that their ill – conceived hubristic dash for spotlight is punishable. They must lose their ministerial portfolios, expelled from MMD and they can stand on UPND – PF ticket where indiscipline can be tolerated. It is insane the Administration of Rupiah Banda is giving succour to this “hutu” mentality from our Lamba colleagues.
Instead of our Lamba colleagues engaging in cheap tribal politics, they need to understand one thing – there is only ONE slot for the Presidency and the at the moment President Banda is ruling. They had their turn and used the position to help themselves with Government positions. I hope Namulambe, Puma and Mpombo are not “dogs on the lead”.

  22. Chiluba was a better leader than quarrelsome Levy Mwanawasa. In 1991, Eastern Province was the only place where MMD lost all the parliamentary seats but FTJ still gave senior positions in his cabinet to Easterners. Late Christon tembo was in charge of foreign Affairs. Lets examine the so good legacy – No easterner in the cabinet because MMD has no eastern representation in 2001 elections. Chiefs complain and the man reluntantly recruits Gladys Nyirongo.

  23. “The prophets prophesy falsely , and the priests bear rule by their means; and my people love to have it so: and what will ye do in the end thereof?” Jer.5:31. Misdirection, misinformation, mistruths, pettiness, greed, lust and hubris is what politicians are about. I am sure they get tumescent as they think of how they manage to get away with it all. When will people wake up and see that these people do not have their interests at heart. All they do is posturing in front of their masters… “look at me, massah” ” I be a good boy and give you tax free looting of the country” “Only 100K dollar, very cheap” “The people are asleep, sire; they only care for the crumbs”. Crumbs are dogs and we behave like dogs. We need to be on the table as right owners of our country.

  24. who is giving this Chifire chap media coverage? next time we will wake-up and find that he is Zambian ambassador to Canada.

  25. Mr. Chifire, how do expect Bwenzani to “notice a chip in other people’s eyes” on this issue when he has “a log in his own”?

It would be hypocrisy of the highest order if he did that. Tribalism is tribalism, is tribalism, and is tribalism; no matter who perpetrates the vice.

And everybody should start within b4 they accuse others of this pernicious SIN. This includes the PRESIDENT HIMSELF!!

  26. this is the most boring and hilarious subject this Chifire is talking about RB to do what? God help us, citizen for what?

  27. tribalism in form must be condemned .RB is wrong in what he said in eastern province during the campaign .and namulambe is also wrong to think when people speak of mwanawasa they speak of lambas.when we condemn veteran ,we condemn him as an individual and not his tribe (i hope his not bemba sure mwe).so chifire in as much as he is suspect ,must be encouraged for speaking against tribalism.there is no special place for a tribe in zambia but there is a special place for zambians.fyakale ba namulambe when people made us believe the people of north west where inferior.in any case levy was not fully lamba ,he also had lenje blood so finshi ulefwaya

  28. Veteran which planet are you living in.so much rhetoric any way it shows that your training hard so much to do with ama essay, can you remember, composition, history, elo ne chisungu. can someone tell this chi color is dead lost and not alive to the truth as regards to what is on the ground pa zed.

  29. What are you still waiting for, bite and not just barking, why not take action -fire Namulambe like you did to shakafuswa and Chibombamilimo. Its because you i d i o t s know they will teach you a lesson.

  30. Ba chifire we know you as a failure;first you failed to succeed at CBU several times and you ended up quitting in second year and went to stand as an MP for mpongwe. You were campaigning with a bicycle and you lost terribly you only managed to get 19 votes. You came back started school again you stood as COBUSU president again you only managed to get 3 votes, you also failed school again you disgruntled cheap fool.Look at his thinking first he tried to be an MP and came for student politics what a shame! Now stop being a fool and behave, you are a failure and RB embraces you because he is also a failure.

  31. Cifire is doing a brilliant job, bringing us good subjects to debate. Only those who benefitted from the Mwanawasa Legacy are refusing to discuss anything to with the Mwanawasa. As good citizens we want to dissect that legacy, test whether it was true to its values. Levy’s supporters should not expect us to blindly accept that Levy was a good man. Levy’s minions have resorted to insulting, really taking after the characteristics of the Babylonian Press. When you analyse the editorial comments of the Babylonian Press in the last one year, 85% of those are commenting negatively on Rupiah Banda. They want a President they can control. Cifire should continue on matters of interest affecting Zambians.

  32. … “The President seriously pleaded with the establishment to a point where it was even becoming embarrassing for the people he was pleading to. They just had to come in to assure the President that his plea has been noted…he really pleaded,” the Post reports on its website, pertaining to Mr Banda’s recent visit to the Western Province.

If the above is true, then we have no head of state in Zambia…

  33. United Liberal Party (ULP) Leader, Sakwiba Sikota has charged that those making tribal remarks are from the Stone Age because tribalism is retrogressive to Zambia’s development. Mr Sikota says it is not right for one to think that any one tribe in Zambia is more important than the other tribes in the country

  34. It’s so sad that despite the writing being so clearly written in black and white on the wall that Banda is wholly incapable and would without any doubt be booted out come 2011, some people, for clearly selfish and in most cases tribalistic reasons still continue backing this wrong horse. It honestly has to take a degree of s.t.u.p.i.d.i.t.y gutless in every depth to reckon that Bwezani can salvage Zambia from its economic and political woes. The MMD is today in utter disarray and the country clearly on auto pilot, to wish for the retention of this status quo is suicidal. Now he is even Santa Klausing Roger Chongwe with your millions and you bet Chiluba has also been allowed to empty ZAMTROP. Kupusa pa ZED awe sure kwachilamo!

  35. Banda is now so scared of bye election and no matter how truant or naught his ministers became, especially those from Bembaland, Western fimo fimo or Southern if he has any, he will never fire tham because he knows he will lose the subsequent by election and increase the heat on him to quit. From now until the polls, it will be a circus like you have never seen before. Though as I stated nearly nine months ago, Banda’s cabinet will sooner than later inplode with his cabinet scumpering in all directions like Titanic survivors clinging to life boats or anything to keep them afloat. For all the deliberate things he has done, I hope the new president hangs Banda.

  36. I am amazed at the ignorance of #46 and that is the reason he is so petty calling people dull. Roger Chongwe deserves to be paid that money because that amount was prescribed by the United Nations commission on human rights. If fact the Zambian government has never responded to the charges before the United Nations. Dr Kaunda and Roger Chongwe were fatally wounded by a zealous police officer while addressing a rally in Kabwe. The Post has always supported the cause of Dr Chongwe but because he is from Eastern Province, they are willing to destroy him just because they want to hound Rupiah Banda out of office. Unlike 1991, this time no one will call an early election, the fight will be taken to the opposition and the insurgents within MMD in late 2011. Guaranteed, the Pact will be out by…

  37. it is just afact that PF-UPND pact is going to root out these pipo in 2011.No mata yo knowledgen mr #47.viva pact viiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiva

  38. Who is the coolie behind RB? bamwenye mu Govt!show me a black man in Indian Govt?they don’t care about their surroundings look at the homes they live in?are they related to Nyamasoya?
