Abyudi Shonga to act as Attorney General as Malila’s contract ends

President Rupiah Banda has announced that Solicitor-General Abyudi Shonga will perform the functions of Attorney-General following the expiry of Mumba Malila’s contract on December 1, this year.

President Banda said Mr. Shonga will perform functions of Attorney General until a substantive officer is appointed and ratified by parliament.

He said this is in accordance with article 55 of the Zambian Constitution.

Mr. Banda has since thanked Mr. Malila for rendering his services to government and the people of Zambia when he served as Attorney-General at the Ministry of Justice.

President Banda said he considers appointing Mr. Malila to diplomatic service.

Mr. Banda said this in a statement released to ZANIS in Lusaka today by his Special Assistant for Press and Public Relation Dickson Jere.

  1. We knew he was threat to your evil deals RB..Malila stood for the good of the people but u know after 2011 the skeletons will come out of the closet whatever goes up must always come down…African leaders think they will stay in power but the reality is that yo term ends and then wen u retire the ACC will come for u…All the best Malila.

  2. What wrong has Malila done RB to deserve this. RB should have let the man build a career and long dedicated service tp the nation than curtail his service in this man. Malila, this is what bootlickers, spineless men get in return for no thank you service. Even the diplomatic post will be pulled off off your feet before you even say cheers.

  3. some of you bloggers are idiots. his contract ended. let another young man have his turn. foolish quacks

  4. Ba zodie we shall take u back to manchichi bay lodge ala. Ever since u started hangingin out wit married men u no longer reason well.

RB shud be retiring pipo lyk enerst sakala, mvunga and their peers who are ova-age. Malila is still young and has alot to offer to th nation. Why shoud u retire th young and leave the old 1s???

Rb is doing this in orda to facilitate th payment of rodger chongwe,s US$ 5.9MLN DOLLARS. Bantalamisoka balaonaula ichalo chakwa Jehova Lesa.

  5. We all knew that Malila was not wanted by RB after he testified inthe Dora Siliya case. So a perfect opportunity has just presented itself for RB to get rid of him. The consequences are that: 1. Chiluba’s london judgement will not be registered in the Lusaka high court 2. Rodger Chongwe will be paid the millions of kwacha
Zambia twasebana! Everything RB touches smell of corruption.

  6. In unwavering spirit of brotherhood Zuma arrives in Zambia for state visit

President Jacob Zuma and his ministerial and business delegation arrived in Zambia on Monday for a three-day state visit.

Zuma was accompanied by, among others, International Relations and Co-operation Minister Maite Nkoana-Mashabane, Trade and Industry Minister Rob Davies, Mineral Resources Minister Susan Shabangu, Agriculture Minister Tina Joemat-Petterson, and Health Minister Aaron Motsoaledi.

  7. Also making the trip were Energy Minister Dipuo Peters, Water and Environmental Affairs Minister Buyelwa Sonjica, Higher Education and Training Minister Blade Nzimande, and senior government officials.

The agenda for discussions included bilateral co-operation issues in various fields such as health, mining and energy.

Agreements and memoranda of understanding were expected to be signed during the visit regarding regular diplomatic consultations, economic co-operation, avoidance of double taxation, mineral resources, agriculture and allied sectors, health, environmental affairs, energy, and education.

  8. Why couldn’t Malila’s contract be renewed? There is something very fishy here! By the way Rupiah is himself an old man, a pensioner but still hungry for office and power and manipulating his way to be sole MMD presidential candidate. Shame!

  9. Zuma was also expected to deliver the OR Tambo Memorial Lecture at Mulungushi International Conference Centre and to commission Zambia’s biggest agricultural project, a sugar plantation at Mazabuka, which was an investment by a South African sugar company.

  10. President Zuma a nationalist and liberation worrier enjoys deeper personal relations with his brother and fellow Veteran Nationalist leader President Rupia Banda. With regional countries headed yet again by Nationalists that fought for liberation,Sub-Sahara Africa in this region has again a historic opportunity to harness, harmonize and realize her generational dream of a free regional and prosperous block.

  11. First the whole story of paying Dr,Roger Chongwe “ZK 27 billion” is hogwash fantasy of Mmembe. It is cooked without substantive evidence despite the fact that the Zambian Government has an obligation but still locked in legal dispute with the Australian passed legal judgment which is supported by Human Rights Watch. Zambia is a signatory to many UN and international conventions and charters on HRs.Dr.Chongwe as a victim of an assassination attempt has universal rights for claims and damages beyond US $60,000.In the same vein it does not mean GRZ has blanketly subscribed to the Australian judgment for such a high settlement. This theater only shows protruding ignorance of ghetto journalism.

  12. Here again trigger happy devil’s advocate Mmembe has no idea about this judgment still under legal dispute and registration.

  13. Veteran!! U acting personal leave Great Mmembe alone. Your age is failing u. The story is Malila’s contarct u r talking about Zuma!! LT screen out Out of Topic blogs. Wasting memory!!

  14. AGs must not be left to overstay. We appreciate Mumba Malila’s support to the country and defense of the Administration, but in “national interest “its good that his contract has not be renewed at the end of tenure. KK fired Levy Mwanawasa 6 months in his appointment while Mwanawasa as President fired Sunday Nkonde from Mongu political rally podium. But the RB administration has the duty not to re-contracting Mumba Malila.Let him get back to the lecture theater at UNZA or get considered for other opportunities “maybe” in future.

  15. # 13,

I sympathize with you considering that your hatred and rantings are in vanity but protruding ignorance. Humanely speaking, we have said it and keep challenging you all PF kaponyas to start your own blogs managed on your terms and see if you will ever see any blog posting from patriotic zambians.Next time out of ignorance, you will enter another family house and start hallucinating your delusional terms.

  16. Vet,
Simple Logic. How many pipo are being held to ransom on Contract? Did Malila v to go after the Aust-Judgement “state secret” revelation? Nkole after the FTJ acquital, Kapitolo after testifying against red lips & CBU students after saying she must GO??? Those who have eyes let them see. Those who can read let them read George Owel’s animal farm.

  17. Gentle men and ladies why do you hate President Banda so much. Why do you hate him for no apparent reason. Can this question be answered please.Iam not related to RB i come from somewhere else within zambia

  18. 19, Good question, but I have no answer either. But I reckon most people just do not have their own minds, preferring others to think for them instead.

  19. Well, Malila’s time was up after failing to appeal the FJT Chiluba acquital. You shall not be missed. Used and dumped- Kashiwa Bulaya, FJT Chiluba. Totally corrupt Attorney-General. I even wonder how some bloggers can be praising you for being a fwapa, namweleu, isembe lya mukuba. His masters voice.
You have really left your own legacy just like the cabbage left his and now everyone talks about it.
