Let Chiluba exercise his Constitutional rights- Chief Chikanta

Share

Chief Chikanta of Kaloma District in Southern Province says he does not see anything wrong with Second Republican president Frederick Chiluba’s support for President Rupiah Banda because it is normal in a democratic society.

The Chief who was flanked by Chief Bright Nalubamba of Namwala told ZANIS in Mazabuka today, that Dr Chiluba has a right to support any Presidential candidate in the forthcoming elections.

Chief Chikanta observed that Dr Chiluba is a member of the ruling party and it is only normal for him to rally behind President Banda who also belongs to the same party.

The Chief cited former South African President, Nelson Mandela who openly supported President Jacob Zuma, during the Presidential elections in that country.

He urged those criticizing the former president and threatening to lobby government to withhold his benefits to leave him alone and allow him to exercise his constitutional right to associate with other groupings.

Chief Chikanta wondered why some members of civil society and opposition are scared of Dr Chiluba’s involvement in politics.

  1. but this chiluba of yours chief cikanta, sent kaunda out of politics with the same threat….of not paying him his benefits if he continued in active politics…

  2. Sometimes its important to ask certain questions and get certain answers before we comment on national issues chief. Why use south africa as an example,do they have a constitution that was doctored by FTJ like ours to fix Dr Kaunda.Chiluba can not have it both ways when it suits him he bars former presidents from taking part in politics, now that the ball is on the other side he thinks its okey to be in politics for former heads of state. If chiluba thought he was a political engineer then,by soughting out KK,he should do the right thing and keep his nose out of zambian politics, maybe for once the country will develop.Look at the poverty this man left.He still has the guts to even show his face in public, later on even on the political podium. If he has an morality left in him he should…

  3. I have seen the baseless and legally needless call that President Chiluba should stop exercising his national rights of speech, association and choice in politics.I have waited but in vain for an intelligent and elevated debate from the informed minds i hoped, but none seems to risk the embarrassment of being exposed as blatantly ignorant.I challenge legal scholars, political scientists and informed politicians to technically take us on this misnomer that President Chiluba is in bleach of the constitution of Zambia.Pull and paste here a clause under contention we can debunk on.I see FJT is acting within the frames of the laws of Zambia.Unlike KK who was holding an active political office with aspiration for more, FJT is merely in solidarity with a political candidate. He not an aspirant.

  4. The common argument often referred to is that Chiluba suspended benefits to Kaunda. But he did so because Kaunda became President of UNIP by forcefully removing Kebby Musokotwane as UNIP President. Musokotwane died a very unhappy young man as a result. Chiluba is not campaigning to become President of the MMD, if indeed he is, then he should be stripped of his benefits as well. He can’t have his cake and eat it.

Very wise advice from the chief. I guess it’s a question of the guilty are afraid that’s why they don’t want Chiluba near RB. They are also still saying Chiluba is a thief even if he was acquitted. They say it was because Rupiah intervened with the court process. But today they say he is still a thief because there is a London civil Judgment? But they forget to say…

  5. But they forget to say this Judgment has not yet been registered in Zambia and the chances of it being registered are very slim.

The same people turn round and say they didn’t steal Air Passenger Fees from National Airports; it was a normal business relationship. But they forget to mention, unlike Chiluba, there exists a registered US$2.5 million Judgment in Zambia against them by Judge Prisca Nyambe. I hear they have appealed. They then say they got unsecured loans worth several million dollars as a normal business deal? Mwamoneni? Who on earth can obtain unsecured Loans from a commercial Bank without collateral if it’s not by using trickery? So if Chiluba is a thief…we’ve many thieves’ tefyo?

  6. Until Mandela sent his envoy to plead with KK into a public retirement announcement witnessed by South African based Malawian Global Intelligence analyzing Consultant and Reuters official Buchizya Mseteka, KK was in the rank and file active politics of UNIP where he was an office holder. After retiring from active positional rank of UNIP, KK as a free citizens started enjoying his benefits and right of associations, endorsements and campaigns. With freedom in 2001 he endorsed Mazoka and Dr.Nevers Mumba two candidates he openly campaigned for on political podiums. In 2006, he endorsed HH under UDA and declared at Mazoka’s funeral that anyone who could not endorse HH’s bid was being unZambian. On the other hand, FJT was busy building and PF on Luapula, Luapula and Northern then endorsing…

  7. Between 2003 and 2007, we openly saw FJT building, selling and endorsing PF around the country. In 2005-2006 he frequented and as a tolerated most effective ever Zambian magnetizing grassroot mobilizer, he went into Chingola, Kitwe, Ndola and Luanshya openly campaigning for Sata. The sore losers rambling in vanity today did not cry foul until FJT has again exercised his right of choice again this time on RB.Law jurisdictions are usually predicated on precedence and facts.I challenge Winter Kabimba who indisputably is not only a failed junior lawyer characterized with his unresearched, emotional and infantile public hyperbole to institute a legal suit against President Chiluba.

  9. The right of speech and association is universal. This is why in America we see former Presidents endorsing Presidential candidates openly and news media carry screaming headlines. President Reagan and Bush Senior’s endorsement histories are on all the GOP stamps sincere their retirements. On the other hand, President Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton are steadfastly on the DNC stamp. A former President has the right of speech and association. Endorsement is not an illegal act of the law excerpt on the mind of Matero University miss-schooled PF judicial activists.

If FJT is immaterial, why the concern with calls of illegally infringing his universal rights? Truth be told that in Zambian political history, there has never been a better and charismatic magnetizing grassroot campaigner as…

  10. I also challenge PF to get on their feet with people centered issues and just counter the none violence crusade of President Chiluba instead of miscalculating their desperation with a strategy of turning into terrorism and arson against his life. Violence begets violence.FJT can never be curved by Sata’s terrorism strategy. This is the man that weathered UNIP institutional years with better and dangerous sledging hammers than these drugged and indoctrinated with sadistic mindset PF kaponyas.

  11. The predential benefits are meant to be given to a former president who has retired from politics. Do not give him the benefits if he wants to engage in politics. And by the way, why do we built houses for these people when they already own houses.

  12. Iwe Mwamoneni, do you really think just because there are many thieves in Zambia (or the world for that matter) then we shouldn’t call one of thieves a thief?

  13. When KK makes a political comment people rebuke him like he were their son, meanwhile when Chiluba does the same people salute him. What crap! We have too many Zambians who are clowns, they think this is some big circus and we are waiting to be entertained, well wait till 2011.

  14. #1,2,3- Fellow Zambians can we be serious when we comment on these issues others wise you will be wasting our time. How can you put up a faint arguement like that of KK. KK was active in politicts and hence the Law had to be applied accordingly.Equally, when FTJ was party President and Mwanawasa as Republican President The law was applied. Honestly how can our country develop with such extremly un cordinated arguements.Awe!!! if this is what it means to belong to the Pact, then I can bet that our God I know will not allow Sata to be in State Hse,NEVER whatever it takes. We can t have peddlers of Lies to rule our beloved Country no ways. The same FTJ surpoted Sata you were all in support. Whats wrong with some of you. This way some of you end up nechisugufye mukanwa ifwe tulebaza. Fyenu ifyo!!

  15. A Coward is someone who knows the right thing to do, but chooses to ignore it. I pity all these people who perpetually defend Chiluba, even when a blind man can see the wrongs being committed by Chiluba. Their Conscience is dead! I cannot imagine myself supporting Chiluba in wrongs, and my Conscience remains free!!! But how these people manage to do that is really astonishing!!!!!!!!!!!

  16. This is interesting…chief chikanta was flanked by chief nalubamba when he was making that statement..wow:-?, i wonder what nalubamba would have said, considering that hes anti-chiluba and a fellow southerner shows some “support” to chiluba..these could be signs of things to appear in the near future, some chiefs have influence

  17. #17 stating the truth is not in itself surpoting FJT. The point here is has he commited an offence to surppot a candidate he prefers??.Why are you twisting a well meant piece of legislation??So who is a coward you who is deliberately turning your self blind to the reality of the law or those of us who have followed it to the later. You can insult FTJ the truth is this man is popular and this why Satan is shaking Just watch Ba mwine in Mwansabombwe tomorrow. This I can tell you is the end of Satan in politics. We want honest people in leadership. The same Satana was even seeing FTJ off to the Airport each time he was going out but today he goes to team up with Fred Mmembe just to get to S.Hse.No ways 2011 is not going to be for you boys on the key Board we shall serious men and women.

  18. #20 What law do understand yourself? if you can not understand this simple one. If the Chief has to stay out of this then should equally back off.Its these stupid threats that your ba Kaponya s in the pact wants to bring Mukapapa sana in 2011

  19. #21. I wish you could use your eyes to see what you must see!! I have really failed to understand your manner of commenting on issues. You seem to be so scattered: “FTJ is popular, Satan is shaking, Ba mwine in Mwansabombwe, Satan in politics, team up with Fred Mmembe, boys on key Board we shall serious men and women.” What are you really arguing for or against? Too incoherent man!!!!!!

  20. Maybe they need to take away your benefits too, Chief Cikanta for poking your nose into politic and for being so dumb.

  21. What FTJ does not realise is that he is not a force in politics. If he was a force as some MMD bootlickers would want us to believe why did he not deliver victory to the PF in all those years he supported them.FTJ is a liability to the MMD the quicker the MMD realises that the better. He is a disgraced politician, the only people who believe he is a factor in zambian politics are people like senior citizen who have no contact with the grassroots in zambia, key board political analysists busy cutting and pasting articles on a daily basis. So go ahead and support his immoral acts.Sometimes trying to be too clever by twisting straight forward things is dangerous.Come 2011 thats when you will realise how much damage the MMD ‘s association with FTJ will have caused.

  22. Mr. Chiluba has promised ex miners who had their terminal benefits with held by Barclays Bank because they had out standing loans that he will ensure they get their money. I do sympathies with my suffering brothers, but I wish to advise them that when we signed for these loans the contract was between us and the Bank. We must also appreciate that the Bank is in business and as such there is no way it let an individual get away say with 100m Kwacha. Besides the money does not belong to the bank but to various customers. The only way out is for us to get employment and renegotiate the terms. Most important why is Mr. Chiluba saying “IF YOU VOTE RB YOU WILL GET THIS AND THAT–” Why cant these loans be cancelled now or those titles issued now? Why wate for election?
