Government will protect farmers’ interest – Veep

Vice President George Kunda says government will protect farmers’ interests in the country because this is the only way of guaranteeing food security in the country.

Mr. Kunda says farmers are playing a very important role in the economic development of the country hence the need to protect them

He says once farmers’ interests are protected, food production will be strengthened in Zambia.

He was speaking when he addressed commercial farmers in Chisamba yesterday.

And Zambia National Farmers Union Vice President David Golden, who is also a farmer in Chisamba, said the fluctuation of the exchange rate of the Kwacha to the United States dollar has affected farmers’ profits.

Mr. Golden also asked government to control the imports of wheat products into the country.

  1. “government will protect farmers’ interests in the country” end quote. Kunda! Kunda! Kunda! iwe…..:o wibusha nefyalele. You guys and your rhetoric never cease to amaze me! Good at talking the talk but never walk the walk…. Atase! just because elections are around the corner elomwaibukisha bakalima. Don’t take us for granted mwefipuba mwe :-w

  2. Mr Golden, smell the coffee if you mean importation of cheap wheat should be controlled. I hope you are not praying that they ban wheat imports so that you can now pump your mediocre wheat on to the market and charge us inflated prices. Just compete with imported wheat, sir or don’t grow wheat. Try something else. Abash economics of protectionism. It just gives power to a clique group to abuse us the consumers. We need more competition and more choice as consumers. More choice means lower prices.

  3. i feel pity for kunda. i mean the man is sick and is criss crossing the country, he has nightmares about Sata and of late nightmares about HH also. just pocket the 5 billion and run brother man. you CD count is not yet that low come to JHB and get treatment early:d

  4. Lack of consequences breeds Mediocrity and s.t.u.p.i.d.i.t.y! From the President all the way down to his ministers. How shameful!

  5. I hope all these comments will be alive after 2011 election. cos I dont see any change in the living standard of the authors. my friends if you are poor, life is difficult for you,80% chance is that its cos of youR parents and 90% chance is that you messed up yourself either you did not do well at school or something. SO BLAME YOUR PARENTS FOR YOUR MISERY OR WORK HAD SO THAT YOUR CHILDREN DO NOT SUFFER. Do not blame the sitting government which is just 2 years old
