Share

The Anti Voter Apathy Project (AVAP) has described the just ended Luena and Chifubu by-elections as a wake up call to stakeholders in the election process.

The elections have also been estimated as an alert to all political parties and civil societies organizations involved in good governance and democracy, to revive the desire of voting in the electorate.

AVAP executive director, Bonnie Tembo said that the low turn out of the electorate during the concurrent by elections was a fact that political parties have failed to inspire voters.

Mr Tembo has called on political parties to work towards strengthening their structures if they are to lay strong foundations for voter mobilization.

He said that time has come for political parties to present real issues that respond to the needs of the people.

The AVAP Director indicated that petty issues and name calling type of campaigns are a threat to voter participation.

Mr Tembo Urge political parties to start preparing their manifestos ahead of 2011 election.

He has also called on Civil society organisationsa to enhance their activities that promote d voter education.

  1. Kinda boring article. I thought you’d be talking up UNPD’s wins. Tell me about how the MMD is feeling the heat; how the UNPD is beginning to fire on all cylinders. About how the MMd is gonna bite the dust the next election; it just can’t happen soon enough for me. I’ll compose a dirge for the ruling party; who has the champain?

  2. Education is power!!! About, 95% or so., are still voting blindly or rather, still being manipulated and forced into voting for certain partys because of their ignorance about the meaning of real FREEDOM of CHOICE,their luck of knowledge about human rights which they dont even know exists etc………pp

    AFRICA WAKE UP & UNITE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  3. What good are manifestos if 70% of Zambians are either illiterate or semi-illiterate? As for the remaining 30%, less than 1% of them have even read 2 manifestos to compare with other parties’ programmes.

  4. #3 i’ve always seen that disconnect.Zambians will complain poverty & other ills yet you see how few readers here comment on stories on roads,Dr’s,schools & jobs.In contrast when a politician calls another monkey,Thandiwe shows fashion or who punched who there’s tons of comments.Real issues don’t sell here.Real issues are never sexy or sentational.Real issues require deep thinking, planning & sacrifices which most won’t pay yet are quick to claim its fruits. Each

Each one of us gets 24hrs/day.It is what you expend your time & efforts on that counts.Seen in that light i think we africans deserve the poverty, disease & misrule we get.AVAP & Mr Tembo have an unenviable task.
Situations & circumstances do color life, but you’ve been given a mind to pick what the colour shall be.If small minds think of people, average minds think of events then great minds think of issues and ideas. On that count we fall woefully short.

  6. According to the PF vuvuzela, the POST Newspaper, under a title “Mpombo’s conviction was secured by Rupiah – Sata“, Mr PF/Sata MC said “… we have an MMD person who is still going scot-free, yet our man has gone to prison.”[..] Mpombo was on Friday convicted by Ndola chief resident magistrate Kelvin Limbani on one count of issuing a cheque on an insufficiently funded account” which is a claim that MMD Kafulafuta MP Hon George Mpombo is not an MMD member but a PF or some other opposition political party member.

I only hope that Mr two-degrees holding-claimant Sata MC just failed to express himself English-Language-wise since his educational credentials are only a mere claim without any proof apart from GRZ records which show that he went upto Standard 4.

    Be…
