Community Development and Social Services Minister Michael Kaingu has disclosed that the funds that the First Lady was distributing to women clubs was not Government money but that she received donations.
He said the First Lady had received enough donations from corporate firms both within and outside the country for distribution to intended beneficiaries.
Mr Kaingu took a swipe at politicians who were criticising First Lady Thandiwe Banda for distributing funds to women clubs in Northern and Luapula provinces respectively.
ZANIS reports that Mr Kaingu said it was unfortunate that some disgruntled politicians would be attacking the First Lady when she was merely doing her job of empowering vulnerable women with funds that would help them come out of poverty.
He said poverty alleviation in the country was not a fight for Government or the First Lady alone but was for all well meaning Zambians committed to ensuring that poverty levels in the country were reduced.
The Minister told journalists in Lusaka today in an interview that it was unfortunate that some people would be criticising the First Lady when the funds she was distributing were meant to economically empower vulnerable women.
ZANIS
let’s face it these guys are not so keen to see poverty completely eradicated, otherwise who are they going to be controlling and manipulating? So Kaingu shouldn’t try to cheat us that he is that humanitarian.
Tel us which donors en how waz this mone accounted for,waz it deposited in the zamtrop a/c? Waz this donation t the people of zed o the marcopolo foundation
ZANIS reports that Mr Kaingu said it was unfortunate that some disgruntled politicians would be attacking the First Lady when she was merely doing her job of empowering vulnerable women with funds that would help them come out of poverty.
The donations were a mokery of common sense! K30million to 500 women clubs! How can anyone come out of poverty on the back of a K60,000!!! Come one woman – stay home!

The mentality that Government is the savior of humankind has trapped many armchair critics in perennial failures and losers. Altruistic individuals to whom much is given and much is expected drives the change among the underprivileged. World over first ladies receive private institutional love offerings at home and overseas of which if greedy they could seat on it all but as altruistic leaders they give it all. Its hardly 5 months ago when First lady Michelle Obama and Dr.Jill Biden just returned from Haiti where they went donating multimillion dollar aid. Mrs Bush even toured Africa dishing millions of dollar value support across African needy societies. In Zambia history is littered with precedences tenure after tenure though Madam Banda is not settling for own NGO. Giving is blessing.
#4, you can be HIV free as you claim but I think mentally you are sick!!
To be blessed, give until it hurts you. People in denial of existing poverty in the country and with a greedy soul against the needy society can never be leaders no matter how much they perfect in spewing insults. Moral leadership in democracy comes with such responsibility and altruism.
#4, one day ukalya iya sour and that will serve you right!!!!!
If the first lady’s altruistic role is illegal and you have evidence that public funds are going into this noble cause, institute legal recourse now anywhere you enjoy jurisdiction. Evoke your constitutional right before the independent judiciary, legislature or police service against this noble course.
leave the girl alone you fools

Sata knows that friends of ruling parties are all over the world and they come down big on goodwill institutional or foundations that share values. Whilst as MMD Party Secretary General President Chiluba sent Sata to two MMD friendly countries that offered big donations to the ruling party. He failed to account for that money but more came in and the party programs stayed on course. In 1995 on his come back trail, KK and UNIP received over 100 Land Rover 110s with 200 bicycles from an Arab friend based in London. He bought these Rovers from the British defense as offloaded second hand. But because he believed in the friendship with KK, he opted to support his return to politics. Until KK dropped out of politics, these vehicles where auctioned to a third world country on behalf of UNIP.
#12, wikantwala mukweshiwa shikulu! there are a million websites out there which visit and discuss sexi with your fellow maniacs.
To expect that the first lady would not enjoy support from corporations, rich Zambians and foreign philanthropic foundations is wishful thinking of confused and overwhelmed losers.
Finally she is distributing the money she stole as a GHOST WORKER at Ministry of Education. Wow, how much did she steal again? Ala jail will be nice soon. Walk baby while you can. Soon the same police officers escorting you on these trips as body guards will escort you to Chimbokaila as criminal. There you will meet your friends. Don’t finish the money, you will need it to pay Zaloumis and Chifumu Banda as your attorneys. Two weak non performing attorneys.

I honestly don’t know what has become of Zambians, we complain about everything whether it be good or bad. Vera, Maureen did the same thing The first lady is doing now. Jealous will not take this country (Zambia) forward.
LT Why are you removing words from my message 19? When people say stupid things about MC you dont remove.
From the start media, especially The Post have always portrait Thandiwe as a Gold Digger. This not true!
She was brought up in a nice environment. Her Father attended Evelyn College in the 60’s and went for further studies in the UK in the 60’s
He worked in PTC – Post TeleCommunication now Zamtel and was a Regional Marketing Director for CB, Luapula, NorthWest & Northen Province. She grew up and lived in Parklands & Riverside Kitwe. Her mother is a retired teacher. The parents still live decent in Kitwe.
From 22 ##
When she finished school, she went for a Teacher Training course in Chipata. Upon completing she was posted to go and teach in one of the primary schools in the out reach of Chipata. It was during this period that she met Rupaih Banda when he was not even the Vice President.
Yes, she has married older than age, but she is not young enough to be a grand child of RB. As matter of fact she does look good for the age of 40 years and a mother of twins
From 23 ##
I know her extended family; they are decent people and hard working family. Most of the comments in the media and blogs come out of envy & jealousy. If anyone does not like RB, then you are entitled to say so. But taking the issues on her is just sickening.
Lisa #24 – Shut up!
No.22 Thandiwe is not yet 40 years but 38 if you workout your maths you will know that she is a grand child it is only that young girls don.t fear to old men’s nakedness these days, even Andrew his son can her father!
Whoever supports the current Zambian Govt has no brain, including Lisa @#24
No.24 Lisa don’t be s.t.u.p.i.d your knowing them is not our business which normal family marries off a young girl like that to a old thing like RB?
Jealous has kept trapping trolls here in generational poverty. Grandfather was impoverished, passed it on to your father and now its with you without hope insight but full of irrelevancy, envy, bitterness and curses. Those whom God has raised up to lead will always do so while you keep sinking. Leadership comes from God. Your only window of opportunity is to work hard, get sound education, develop manors and an entrepreneurial spirit. You would be somebody even as MMD continues to reign supreme as a National people’s party. To think otherwise is burning in vanity. RB is head of state & his wife is first lady with full constitutional rights and privileges. Insults only leave you hurting and choking. Except his twins, all his children are highly educated and settled around the Globe.
Iwe Lisa: This girl Thandiwe is actually 28!

You cannot tell me to shut up. What is bothering you?

Thandiwe was born in 1971 she is 40. Andrew RB’s son is not old enough to be her father. I am not sure where you are getting these facts. I went to school with Thandiwe and we celebrated our birthdays growing up in Parklands & Riverside. We differ just by 3 months. You can check her details they are in Government Public Domain.
27 Nubian Princess #
You are entitled to differ with MMD, RB and the government and there is nothing wrong with that. You are Zambians and you should do so.
But let them just tell us who donated that money, because ba mudala ba RB does not want them,Donors.
# 24, we are not talking about Thandiwe, where she comes from or are family, we are asking the gov, to tell us how the money is accounted for and were it came from period.
BY THE WAY THANDIWE SPENT THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS IN FUEL, MAINTENACE, PERSONNEL, ALLOWANCES, ETC TO FLY TO MPULUNGU JUST TO GO AND GIVE £8 TO A WOMAN (MOTHER/GRANDMUM) IN MPULUNGU. WHAT A SHEER WASTE OF RESOURCES! YOU MEAN THAT MONEY COULDN’T HAVE REACHED BY WESTERN UNION?

Your point is valid and you are within to make comments for accountability and being patriotic

If now responsibly self managed many kids in the Diaspora by default or plan of migrating find themselves in this kind of mental slavery, without education and purpose but worse off impoverishment, envy, bitterness, lies, gossip, vain glory and permanent displacement. This is in spite of others quietly breaking their own grounds while other increase on family heritage of more and more. The MMD Government has brought so many opportunities to hard working and enterprising youths. Poverty and vain trolling are personal choices. With election year at hand when Governments increase capital expenditure, serious Zambians at home and overseas are picking up real opportunities in prosperity circles. Sadly poor and uneducated trolls are sinking in envy and fruitless envy.

Are you getiing angry out of this. Dont Man!
Just of interest, how old is Andrew, RB’s son. Help us do the maths so that we can know about the so called grandchild myth . I understand RB is around 72/73 years.
This is amusing… I am just trying to gauge things on the ground
Ba # 35, you are senior enough, do not sink very low by using those words- encourage, forgive, respect and we shall truly listern to you. ala if people in diapora had means too, they should have been back home- doing good. I guess some of them are doing fine too.so, do not worry so much about them just encourage them and respect them too. You never know what tomorrow brings- thanks
I dont like both RB and the Wife.
However, It must be correct for her to be 40yrs. She was in the same class with my brother at primary in Kitwe who just turned 42 years last June
Those donations could be drug money – VJ’s mandrax sells. I suggest that “well wisher” should report the donations to ZRA and get credit on their taxes and this should be public info. This loop hole should be plugged. Baya sana !
These are called brown envelopes, they are FTJs way of doing politics. I have experience of distributing them during the failed 3rd term campaign. Its just sad they are being used aginst me now.
I think he married her when she was 30 years after the wife past away. That is an age old enough. These thing happen all the time and we should not make a big issue out of it. She was not under age but a grown woman.
My grand mother was 18 years when he married my grand father at 45 years in the 1940’s. If you read the bible you see these stories a lot in the Old Testament
=== That said, I still do not support RB and the Wife & MMD

Even if you are told who has given what and how much, you will still find something to complain about. This is ‘human nature’ we complain and complain and when our time comes we are always on the denfensive. For sure the first lady is doing a good job and showing her generosity. Some of us would have kept all the millions! Whoever is giving donations to the first lady has expectations not only from the Bandas but also from the government. Social responsibility? Contracts? Others might argue that why not give donations direct to the poor or NGOs. Recognition and greedy play a role in some cases. I gave some money to my old school and it was not news in the papers coz it is my choice. But what did I get in return? Nothing but joy!
Sorry ‘defensive’. I am already defending…human nature twalishupa sana, ndise ovuta maningi!

she has to account..a simple teacher and housewife can’t afford..
# 50Lisa,
Now wat happened to yr friend T.B? analibe market ya right size?
Thandiwe’s elder brother is an Investment Banker in London. I just spoke to a comrade who is a friend to her elder brother. I shall pass the verdict once I get facts. I will also get facts about the age of Andrew, RB’s son. Thereafter, we can resolve all this myth about RB’s children being old enough to be her dad
1. RB is 73
2. Thandiwe – let’s assume at 40years
3. The difference is 33
4. Did RB have a son old enough to be her dad when he was 33 years? Or was he a grandad at 33.
In the mean time let’s debate important issues about the nation………….
Lisa,
We are worried coz ba RB manje power inasila when the wife is supposed to be enjoying. Remember life begins at 40.

This woman gets this money from these cheap and compromised companies and Zambian Ambassador’s wives. In Ethiopia here where am based, The Ambassador’s wife sometimes fundraise on behalf of Thandiwe. This Embassy Business nowadays is all about raising money for Thandiwe Banda.
Chomba,
What’s wrong with fundrasingand giving to Thandiwe for redistribution later on?
This blog can really go out of context! Thus, knowledge is destruction for others and not development.
I would rather have these donors give it directly to women groups. In countries with checks and balances on the executive this would amount to influence peddling or buying from the donors to gain favour with RB’s gov’t.What do these donors expect in return?mhhh…In usa any gift to the executive becomes gov’t property.
Mulele 59, 60
Is that important. She is a Zambian and that is the most important thing. This is shallow thinking, coming from you. What tribe are you 59, 60 ??
HIV,
# 65, sorry i was just asking i did not mean to upset you thou i do not know you, it is not shallow thinking, am Mabwe by tribe and married a Tonga. again, sorry to ask.
I think it is legitimate to ask questions about the sources of funds Thandi is throwing around. After all she is a public figure by virtue of her marriage to the Republican President. We have all read stories about one of Jacobo Zuma’s (RSA) wives and her money troubles. So the interest people have about their first ladies is not unique to Zambia—these things happens around the world all the time. In fact, in other parts of the world “disclosure laws” are quite strict. She would have been made to disclose who these donors are. And rightfully so!!
As for Thandi’s age, hey! any 70+ years old man would be luck to have such a young wife. There is nothing wrong with it, no laws were broken here. The woman looks young because she takes good care of herself. I wish RB did the same.
Hillary Clinton, Cherrie Blair, Late Pricess Diana, Mrs Mandela, Mrs Sarkozi. Especailly Clinton was good at collecting hard cash. This is well published
All these ladies went around fund raising money for causes paid to the designated donor accounts. My understanding is that these donors are deposting into Thandiwe’s Charitable Account at Zanaco. If she is stealing then that is another matter and she will be judged on day. I have a friend that works at Zanaco Lusaka, that sees the flow of money. So far it appears good. But who knows !!
Mulele 65
Not need to apologise, you are entitled to say what you want. It’s just better to judge someone by the content of their character and not tribe, colour, religion and so forth. I am not offended at all….
I can promise you the minute someone says she is this tribe – you will see tribal insults & wars popping on the blog… Then again there is no hassle reviewing her tribe.
67 Yambayamba
Well said my man. Who are we to judge what makes Thandiwe happy, or judge her family why she married RB. She was a grown woman. No one could have put a gun on her head.
A lot is coming from envy & jealousy.

Unfortunately, men are getting married to men. Thsi is how sad the word has come to. We all need prayers for the future generations. What is your stance?

I am not sure if we have “DISCLOSURE LAWS” in Zambia that encompasses charities/foundations. Nonetheless, the whole idea behind these laws is to prevent situations where corruption of and by government officials being done in the name of charities and foundations. This is even more vital if it is wives and close relatives (children) of the President involved.
First ladies are just too intimately bound to the President if things are simply left to chance. Those wishing to corruptly seek favours from the President would use charities/foundations run by our first lady as a conduit to influence the President—-a very high possibility!
In the USA even former presidents are made to disclose donors to their foundations and Presidential Libraries. What more our sitting first lady?!

Luapula women hail first lady’s food security drive
WOMEN in Kawambwa District of Luapula Province have paid glowing tribute to First Lady, Thandiwe Banda, for her commitment to promoting food security in the country.
The women, who turned up in their hundreds at St Mary’s High School where Mrs Banda was donating an assortment of goods to various women support groups, said more women had joined farming as a result of the first lady’s encouragement.
“We are very grateful for your encouragement; we now have about 57 women groups in the district, which is unprecedented. Many more women are now joining the groups and we have realised that in farming it is easier to survive,” said Rosemary Kabungo, a spokesperson of the women groups in the district.
“We have so many orphans here and widows, but because of farming we are now able to support them. We are also asking for more support on farming inputs such as seeds and fertiliser to expand our production.”
The first lady is in Luapula Province to inspect women’s ongoing developmental projects, and make donations to the existing support groups. In Kawambwa, she donated sewing machines, bags of fertiliser as well as of maize seed.
“Some women have been trained by FAO (the Food and Agricultural Organisation); I am happy and humbled to have facilitated and I promise to continue working with you women,” Ms Banda said.
Ms Banda has so far donated to women support groups in Chiengi and Nchelenge.
She was later yesterday scheduled to meet women support groups in Mwense District before proceeding to Mibenge and Mansa for similar programmes.
Meanwhile, Global Commodity Market Institute has said the first lady’s tour of Northern Province and helping the women should not be politicised because she has been working with women groups for some time.
By Times Reporter
Institute country director, Mwango Chisha said Ms Banda’s tour of the province was not a campaign gimmick because the first lady had been to other areas helping the women.
Mr Chisha was reacting to Anti-Voter Apathy executive director Bonny Tembo’s assertion that Ms Banda was on a campaign trail in the province.

Let’s not be paranoid. Let her use her position and influence to help people in need. If she is not campaigning, i see no problem with her actions.
Please stop making personal attacks on the first lady. The editor needs to remove all comments that are off-topic and attacking her. Respect for other people is very important and is a crucial element for development of a country. Stick to the storyline.
# 21 Yaya,
You must be very dull. Stealing is stealing no matter how much. So in your shallow myopic MMD cadre mentality only those who stole in millions must pay back or must be prosecuted? If she stole, as she did anyway, she must face the music like any other criminal. She lucky she has body guards. We would have shouted kabwalala uyo for the instant justice mob to take care of her. Well, it is not over. Her time to face the courts is on its way. Hope you gone sing at the court house as a cadre.
You mentioned jealousy. Think of Mrs Obama. She is a lawyer and her dealings are straight and I adore her. She has never stolen like your kindergarten teacher (Thandiwe). What makes you think when people state facts that is jealousy? You must be so blank.
numbala 18 walai hahaha loool nizeee mune
As first lady she must run her own projects to raise funds to donate and not using govt money. Zambians are being taken for granted. There is no accountability in the country at the moment, look at those 20 people who were on the UTH payroll and yet they dont work there. These are the issues we should highlight! There is no proper guidelines on First Ladies in Zambia. Did you ever see Betty Kaunda dishing out money or covering the newspapers everyday.
