ECZ set date for Mporokoso by-election

http://www.lusakatimes.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/ecz.jpegThe Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has set March 3rd 2011 as the date for the Mporokoso by-election.

The by-election follows the resignation of area Member of Parliament Maynard Misapa who defected to the opposition Patriotic Front recently.

ECZ Public Relations Manager Cris Akufuna says four local Government by-elections will also be held on the same day.

Mr Akufuna says vacancies in the four wards have arisen due to deaths and resignations by incumbent councilors.

The Local Government by elections will be held in Katwe and Vyamba wards of Mpulungu district.

Other are Kawambwa Ward in Kawambwa district, and Lunga ward in Samfya districts.

Mr Akufuna said in a statement to ZNBC news on Tuesday that aspiring candidates should lodge in completed statutory declarations and nomination papers by February 10, 2011.

Asprising candidates for the parliamentary seat have also been asked to take along nine supporters who are registered voters in Mporokoso constituency.

Mr Akufuna says all candidates will be required to pay five hundred thousand kwacha non refundable nomination fees.

He says election monitors and the media wishing to cover the by- elections should apply to the ECZ for accreditation.

  1. twalya again . . .just like mpulungu this is for mmd! the pf fools will learn it the hard way with that robot of ex mp!

  2. PLIZ BA ECZ, WHY HAVING BY-ELECTIONS THIS YEAR AND YET THIS SAME YEAR WE ARE HAVING GENERAL ELECTIONS? DON’T YOU HAVE ECONOMIST TO ADVISE YOU ON THIS? JUST CONCETRATE ON PREPARATIONS FOR TRIPITITE ELECTIONS ONLY. ISN’T THIS PLUNDER OF OFFICE RESOURCES?

  3. Is this by election really necessary when the new MP will barely debate anything in the few months left. This will just give a sychological boost to MMD (in view of the coming general elections) who look likely to retain their sit.

  4. March 3rd – by elections; July 28th – parliament dissolved; August 15th – election campanigns commence; October 15th tripartite elections. Bwana Cris you dont need a degree to ascertain that this election is unnecesary please. People are are walloping in poverty – and will continue to do so – and yet your are ‘misusing’ the resources! Is zambia a poor country? I think no – its corruption, inefficiency, and misplaced priorities on the part of those in authority!

  5. #2 have your own life you must be a shame no identity. you can never come to level my contributions my thinking is advanced. do not misuse my ID. As far as Im concerned this election isnt necessary and I wouldnt strecth my anal hairs trying to get this seat when general elections are due this year. Number #2 again pliz do not abuse my ID

  6. The way you pipo support MMD/PACT etc…Its as if you will see any difference..as far as i am concerned, these are a bunch of politicians who want to EAT….and EAT they will do.
You vote, they EAT…that is how it goes so the best tou can do is EAT with them else just concentrate on your life..
