Parliament ratifies Justice Mambilima’s appointment

Parliament has ratified the appointment of Justice IRENE MAMBILIMA to serve as Chairperson of the Electoral Commission of ZAMBIA-ECZ.

And the house has also ratified the appointment of ALFRED KAWEZA and DAVIES MWANZA to serve as commissioners of the commission of investigations.

The three received overwhelming support from all parliamentarians in the house.

In moving the motion, Parliamentary Select Committee Chairperson EILEEN IMBWAE recommended that the three were qualified and suitable to serve in the positions they have been nominated to, by the President.

Ms IMBWAE said all the nominees have been cleared by all security agencies and that she is confident that they will carry out their duties professionally.

  1. Good. now you can announce the date of the elections. Or should we take it for granted that it will be the last Thursday of September.

  2. I hope the trio will be impartial because the monster is good at giving brown envelops. come 2011.

  3. Anyone know the profiles of ALFRED KAWEZA and DAVIES MWANZA? Whay are their backgroounds?

  4. Rubber stampers. They are not even ashamed of their mediocricy. There has been a counter ratification to nominees and appointments made by all the presidents in Zambia. So why continue with a system that is only there to ratify without questioning. Zambia’s governance systems and institutions are not serving the purpose for which they are created. Every person that has been nominated by the president has always gone thru without any scrutiny. This is one indicator that our political and governance systems are still heavily driven and influenced by the presidency. legislators fear the presidency and every other person in the system does. The powers of presidency must be trimmed to instill confidence and efficiency in the political and governance structures and systems.

  5. TRIBAL APPOINTMENTS!

Again its the name DAVIES MWANZA at Electoral Commission of Zambia? When are tribal appointments going to stop from President Banda please? Even KAWEZA sound like the name is from Eastern province, but am not sure? Why can’t President BANDA at least appoint Zambians from Southern or Western province to run this institution?

Does our President suffer from FEAR OF THE UNKNOWN or an INFERIORITY COMPLEX? In Zambia we have experienced people from other tribes not just Eastern province!! Our President please spare us from this naked TRIBALISM.

Mr. President, Zambia have enough of Easterners at State House and in the foreign service. Jere thinks State house is his own Pension house and home village, no wonder the pompous.

All Zambians are loyal and committed to…

  6. I hope my fellow Zambian, Mr Sharp Shooter will analyse these naked tribal appointments from President Banda.

Fellow Zambians help, which Province does Judge Mambilima come from?

  7. Fellow citizens, what performance checklist was developed by MPs for Irene to follow in order to ensure that she supervises our looming elections with fairness? The absence of a clearly understood checklist places her at the mercy of her appointing officer at State House. She must be made to swear loyalty to the constitution and NOT to the appointing fellow.
