AVAP asks Government to consider printing ballot papers locally

Anti Voter Apathy (AVAP) executive director Bonnie Tembo(L)

The Anti-Voter Apathy (AVAP) has called on Government to consider printing this year’s ballot papers locally to serve national resources.

AVAP Executive Director Bonny Tembo said in an interview with ZANIS that printing ballot papers locally using Government Printers is cost effective and secure as opposed to printing from abroad.

Mr. Tembo observed that it is cheaper and more convenient for observers from Civil Society organisations and political parties to monitor the printing process to ensure transparency than from South Africa where ballot papers have been printed in the past.

He said Government Printers has the capacity to print ballots adding that Government and the Electoral Commission of Zambia should start preparing in consultation with electoral stakeholders.

He stated that if the ballot papers are printed in Zambia this year, ECZ should also begin to source for its own printing machine to be printing ballot papers without the involvement of Government.

And commenting on the collapse of the opposition Patriotic Front (PF)/United Party for National Development (UPND) pact, Mr. Tembo said the demise of the pact is an opportunity for the ruling MMD to win with a landslide.

He, however, noted that the death of the pact which he said had a lot of following should not result in voter apathy adding that pacts and coalitions in Zambia have never brought about any meaningful change.

  1. :) the death of the pact just means now tha PF will form the next govt without any complications or concessions

  2. “…..He, however, noted that the death of the pact which he said had a lot of following should not result in voter apathy adding that pacts and coalitions in Zambia have never brought about any meaningful change…..”.
Now Mr Tembo, why didn’t you advise PF early enough?

  3. I still dont understand why ballot papers should be printed out of the country when we can equip our Government printers with new equipment and create jobs for the zambians unlike what we are doing now. we just create jobs for south africans.

  4. Ballots should always be printed at home. What kind of place is Zambia kanshi? Beyond third world I guess.

  5. The picture in this article shows that Zambia is already tolerate towards men getting close to other men. Sata is right.

  6. Okay but na nangu mulanda ati Sata talks from with out, these are things that he talks about. How can after 50 years of independence we cant even print a ballot paper? we have to employ South Africans. What about Zambians. If it is not Nikuv chaps, it is indians, if not it is chinese even hair plaiting the Tanzanians are in the front. What about Zambians kanshi. On that point i support ba Sata 100%, he cries for ordinary Zambians

  7. I believe its all part of the rigging process what logical explanation do they have to give for printing ballots is SA.
This is all part of the international tricks our short thief Kafupi was talking about. VJ will just fly out to go and bring in the other batch of pre- marked ballots to stuff in the boxes.

  8. come people printing the paper at home maybe economically cheaper but many will come and claim that MMD will do something to the b paper.its better they are printed out there by a neutral person and not gov. i guess this is one of those times when whatever you do people will always cry. for me i just want a peaceful election so that i can go on with my daily business. so if this will help then good

  9. PF will form a good government without having to struggle to win few characters. it will be able to implement its programmes that will reduce taxes and put more money in the citizens pocket.
