Land scam hearing starts

Share

Lusaka mayor Daniel Chisenga(R)

A committee investigating the Lilayi land scam that rocked the Lusaka City Council was scheduled to start receiving public submissions at Nakatindi Hall in Lusaka today.

Committee Chairman, Barnaby Mulenga says the committee will start receiving submissions for the next two weeks starting.

Mr Mulenga, who is also commissioner of lands, said this in a telephone interview to ZNBC News.

The investigating team will include the ACC, DEC, Zambia Police, Auditor General, ministry of Local government, among others.

The committee will also consider other submissions on land allocation around Lusaka.

The Lusaka City Council was suspended in January following allegations of impropriety in the allocation of one hundred and two plots at the Lilayi housing project.

  1. PF comment whether this is a sign of good governance…..or its the PRINCIPLE OF SHARING POSITIONS…AND ….LAND

  2. PF caught pants down…….allocating plots to themselves..and people say Sata is a man of discipline what discipline when his men are busy in corruption….land grabbers…

  3. NO AMOUNT OF PROPAGANDA WILL STOP SATA AND PF TO SWEEP LUSAKA CLEAN.
THAT PLOY BY THE MMD IS IN FUTILITY AND THE WIND OF CHANGE IS COMING.
SATA WILL RESCUE THE POVERTY STRIKEN MAJORITY FROM THE PAWS OF BWEZANI THE MONSTER.
VOTE MICHAEL CHILUFYA SATA AND PA BWATO COME 2011.
BE PART OF THE BALLOT REVOLUTION.

  4. This case is not going anywhere. Abuse of office is not a crime in Zambia.

Fellow Zambians if you are holding a public office of influence, this is the time to mint money. Let us abuse our offices with impunity. Maybe by doing so the law on abuse of office can be re-introduced.

  5. Scandals where ever they take place regardless of which political party is involved must be condemned and exposed and culprits brought to account.

I personally welcome this investigation for as long as it is done transparently and without bias.

It would also be gratifying to have the MMD (rupiah)-NAPSA scandal vigorously investigated and given the prominence it so rightly deserves

  6. number 11 u don’t get it do u…number 5 is on point. u should feel sorry for every Zambian that the government has made abuse of office legal. :o:o:o:o

  7. Academic Worrior (I hope you meant warrior) @ 4. This is not propaganda, it’s on record that they shared the plots and they have not even denied it. One of them even sold one of the plots – I believe the Mayor did that.
peace maker @ 5 – You don’t understand what abuse of office meant so until you research and find out, please don’t advocate Nigerian ideas here. I trust you’re a Zambian.

  8. PLEASE CAGE THESE PF THUGS! We can not give any chance to these thieves who are stealing in a broad day light. ABASH CHI SATA!!!!

  9. Ricky bobby my dear these councillors at LCC came into possession of those plots because they used their influence as councillors.

If this is not abuse of office what is it then?

Warrior read my comment again and understand what I am saying. Maybe I should repost my comment in one of our local languages? Tell me which one you understand better.

  10. Here is a thought “if any ordinary Zambian from rural or urban cannot buy land all because of first bureaucracy, secondly corruption, thirdly tribalism then any President, Minister or generally speaking any Leader in government, has failed mother Zambia and are not worth it or being part of leadership to run this country”

  11. its is a political ploy. In any case these councils are answerable to the ministry of local govt whose minister is MMD. the rot therefore starts at the top and SATA is no where near the hierachy. Live the man alone. Just vote these thieves out of power. I dont mind even if we were to remain without a govt for 5 years.
