THE MMD has advised former Kafue United Party for National Development (UPND) member of Parliament (MP) Bob Sichinga to desist from demonising the economic policies of Government.

MMD spokesperson Dora Siliya said Mr Sichinga should refrain from attacking Government economic policies but should instead appreciate the economic gains the country has achieved under the leadership of President Banda.

Ms Siliya was reacting to a story in March 31 issue of The Post in which Mr Sichinga was quoted as saying Zambians have a right to remove the MMD Government from power because of its poor economic policies which he said have failed to improve living standards.

Ms Siliya said Zambia’s economy has continued to perform well and the international community is speaking highly of the country because of the prudent management of national resources by Government.

Ms Siliya, who is also Minister of Education, said Mr Sichinga should stop politicising economic policies being introduced by Government to advance his hidden political agenda.

“It is clear that Mr Sichinga, in his attempt to become an MP again, is prepared to say anything to Zambians to win political mileage. It now seems like this man is living in cyber space because he is failing to see what this Government is doing for its people.

“International bodies have assigned Zambia B+ ratings because of the prudent economic management of national resources. Government is building schools, hospitals and constructing roads in all parts of the country. Is this not development?” she asked.

She advised Mr Sichinga to desist from falsehoods and offer practical solutions to the economic challenges affecting the nation.

Ms Siliya said Zambia’s economy has been growing at a fast rate because it has been boosted by a record bumper harvest, a rebound in tourism, continued copper price increments and construction.

“This man claims to be an economist and we are surprised as Government that he is failing to offer practical solutions to the economic challenges affecting the country.

“What he should know is that macro-economic policy implementation has contributed to the strong economic performance of the country so far in 2010. As at the end of July 2010, the fiscal programme has been broadly in line with original plans,” she said.

Ms Siliya urged all well-meaning Zambians who have the interest of the nation at heart to dismiss Mr Sichinga’s allegations because they are baseless and unfounded and only meant to discredit Government.

  1. MADAM DORA, IT MAY HAVE COME OFF AS AN ATTACK ON YOU PERSONALLY BUT AS A LEADER AND AS GOV’T YOU MUST BE ABLE TO LISTEN TO THE PEOPLE. WE ALL KNOW OF THE RATINGS AND THE STEADY ECONOMY. HIS SPEAKING OF POOR ECONOMIC POLICIES MAY BE MISPLACED BUT HE IS RIGHT WHEN HE SAYS OUR LIVING STANDARDS HAVE NOT IMPROVED. SOME OF US ARE EVEN MAKING MORE MONEY BUT LIVING WORSE THAN BEFORE!
I HOPE YOU TOOK THE ADVICE BEFORE YOU RESPONDED AND NOW YOU NEED TO TAKE ACTION. NOT JUST READING PAPERS AND PREPARING STATEMENTS. I WAS ENCOURAGED YESTERDAY BY BWEZANI OF ALL PEOPLE AND HE CAUTIONED YOU TO REDUCE ON STATEMENTS ATTACKING EACH OTHER!
I HOPE YOU JUST IGNORED HIM AND THIS DOES NOT MEAN THAT HIS ADVICE WAS FAKE

  2. Ba Dora utumano twa bu unza momma still in your small brain. Sometimes you behave like a former form five.

  3. am not suprise of our smarts Dora’s resporse to a well meaning constractive criticism from a citizen thats typical of a political cader.I would advice the govenment to take constructive criticism with a sobber mind.Am sure Sichinga has offered many practical solutions but its suprising that our smart lady has not heard that.Yes we have scored B+ but thats just on paper to a common zambian maybe A+ will do.

  4. ON A SMALL NOT, GOV’TS CONTINUOUS REFERENCE TO THE BUMPER HARVEST REALLY PAINS ME! GEAORGE KUNDA MENTIONED IT LAST WEEK, MS SILIYA HAS MENTIONED IT THIS WEEK YET THESE TWO GOV’T OFFICIALS DO NOT EVEN INTERVENE IN THE CORRUPTION THAT TAKES PLACE KU FRA! WE THAT FARMED BUMPER HARVESTS LAST YEAR SUFFERED, AND WE ARE STILL FEELING THE EFFECT THIS YEAR BECAUSE BETWEEN 2009 HARVEST AND NOW WE HAVE NOT MADE ANY PROFIT, WE ARE USING OUR SAVINGS AND IF YOU HAVE SEEN THE RISE IN PRICES IT MEANS WE ARE LOSING!
THE FRA RECEIVED 1.3 TRILLION TO BUY MAIZE AT 60PIN A BAG BUT THEY WERE FRUSTRATING US INTO SELLING TO THEM AT 35PIN AND 40PIN…WHERE DID THE REST F THE MONEY GO???
AND CAN THESE MINISTERS AND VICE PRESIDENTS TAKE THESE STATISTICS TO GO AND BRAG SURELY??? OUR PROFITS FROM 08/09 ALSO GONE!

  5. ” MMD spokesperson Dora Siliya said Mr Sichinga should refrain from attacking Government economic policies but should instead appreciate the economic gains the country has achieved under the leadership of President Banda. ”

What are the odds on that happening? And how much did you get for Zamtel, spokesperson Siliya?

  6. Mama dora if the economy has improved both locally and internationlly i tell u its just in yo books. The real situation is that people are suffering. Plse learn to accept good criticism it will make you to be a good leader.

  7. Ba Dola Nshilya Nyama soya. Be careful with your blind support. where is Mulongoti? You will swallow ur words. mwiponta mukabwela

  8. We dont all need to comment on this one. Its too easy! We´ll let the grade twelve bloggers to go in on this one.

  9. Why is Dora avoiding to be told what is wrong in our country. Be mature madam. Let the people talk.

  10. Dora is exhibiting cadre mentality .Sichinga is a respected economist that can give us the facts on the ground . To listen to outside statements like B ratings is an expression of inferiority complex. its like you children are telling you that they have not eaten and you say go and ask the neighbour ,they will tell you how fat you are becoming . we must be able to judge ourselves .renowned people call it private victories .WE THE POPLE OF ZAMBIA ARE TALKING.VIVA SICHINGA

  11. Ba Dora appreciate what have achieved anything look dirty is our airport, last week was so disappoited when I came with friends to visit Zambia, its looks like a bus stations and the place was smealing like a public toilet shame on you ba Dora, only people who have seen what is under your legs can appreciate ******we

  12. Bob is a very correct in advising government on economic issues.MMD says that economy is doing well but the realities on the ground is totally opposite. What we are owing as a country is more than what we have in reserves now.Our government is busy borrowing monies from donors and china to build schools, hospitals, roads etc instead of taxing mining firms who are on tax holiday while a poor zambian is taxed in almost in any transaction including bank charges which attrack VAT now.If our economy was doing fine,we could have seen basic medicines in hospitals/clinics atleast.

  13. # 4 chinyanta.b,

Hon. Siliya is being too polite with Bob Sichinga. She simply means that has wittingly become a certified “troll” cyberstalking GRZ senselessly due to his protruding ignorance and personal economic turmoil in spite of many opportunities in the country. Instead of being a rational actor, he has become a cyberstalking troll evidently behind malicious blog threads. It is no surprise that his businesses have all but failed including NCR computers he scammed the Atlanta, Georgia based company as a Zambian representatives. Bailiffs have kept sweeping him in bankrapsy since 1999.

  14. Other than MMD’s pro-growth conomic policies, the only party with a clear blue print on democracy and the economy is UPND. PF has nothing for the country but a menu of insults, utopia and tribalism. It is amazing that Sichinga can waffle that there is an alternative to MMD other than MMD itself. The country and the world would appreciate if he led independent minds in comparative analysis of public policy orientation of political entities on this year’s campaign trail.

  15. Democracy ba mama dollar is all about critism. We are not in a one party state where we cant say anything for fear of people like you dollar. Awe Mwachita ova ba dollar.

  16. So madam Siliya, for this time the international community are angels? Who carries more weight, the people in the home or those outside? We say NO to substandard MMD policies, if they are even there. And which governance when you have several donors withdrawing funds from you? Get real

  17. Senior Citizen , its like you are really eating well with MMD because you are among a few Zambians who are enjoying the ECONOMY

  18. #20, there is no relationship whatsoever between Bob and Sata. If anything, Bob believes Sata is at the centre of the destruction of the MMD manifesto when serving in government. Bob, Dr. F. Mwape and a few others drafted the manifesto. Sata ensured Bob was never in government. Bob, on the other hand, thinks Sata is nothing but a psychopath. Bob can never be PF. what Bob is doing is opening his own space for a political party. Unfortunately, he is failing to build a team for lack of money.

  19. #15 Ba Senior Citizen, where do you live?? Am very sure like all Zambians you come from unserviced areas and pot holed muddy roads. When you are sick am sure you opt to buy medicine if at all you can afford it instead of rushing to the clinics for fear you will only find frustrated and wounded medical corridor cleaners. When did you last vist a public school which is in session? Bwana taili bwino thats why its CHANGE in 2011 pa bwatooooooo….

  20. #20 Joe Core, to answer your question, Mr. Michael Sata’s daughter is married to Mr. Bob Sichinga’s son (I am sure you know this), so ni basebele. There were matebeto and wedding photos in the Post last year.

  21. I doubt whether Dora “Naliti” Siliya understands the real meaning of macro-economic policy, strong economic performance or indeed fiscal programme. I bet she is the one living in cyber space, whatever that means!

  22. They ve rated you highly bcos of yr myopic view of understanding what investors are afta.Their companies are reaping super profits fm our natural reasources better preserved for our future generations.Resources you cannot replenish in a thousand years.Dora ,u will long be in yr grave ,i cant jst imagine what it will take to bury those gaping holes or grow our timber.Any way u luk wellfed. What a country.I see beyond yr lies.

  23. The simplest question the party and the government need to answer is, “Are ordinary citizens better off today than they were yesterday?” The simplest answer is, “Not at all!”:-w

  24. To Live in Cyber space is to be in a world that is not real, for instance virtual reality is one of the application areas of cyber space you can see the objects but in reallity they are not there. Dora use of the term is missplaced!

  25. dora u are very far from Bob.He is well informed on economical matters than u dora. Coz of that he qualifies very much to talk about the failures of your thieving govt.i summon you to a debt on economic matters btw u and bob and let the people judge.kuya bebele

  26. Chi DOLLAR iwe, what economical growth are you talking about when millions of Zambians are struggling to find a meal for a day. Go to shanty compounds to appreciate what Mr Sichinga is saying then go back to Mr Sichinga and apologize. Be real chi DOLLAR Zambians are suffering.

  27. I think we need to think clearly and comment objectively. It is true that developmental projects are many in the whole country, emphasis oagriculture and funding thereof highly noticeable, growth is there and the B+, but what we need is to see this B+ trickle down to the ordinary zambian. This is what govt is expected to do.

To Zambians lets not fear to catch the entrepreneurship activities, it is our way to survive. Peace to you all.

  28. # 20 22, 23, There is actually a relationship between the two. Bob’s son is married to Sata’s daughter. The two call each other wemufyashi munandi.

  29. This woman and William Banda have same mentality they cant admit that things are not okey..busy praising rupiah banda when we all know very well that three quarters of the projects being implemented were left by the late Mwanawasa..they are busy suffocating people who talk sense.

  30. ZAMBIA AMAZES ME ALOT, WE STILL WANT FINISHED POLITICIALS TO RULES US, THE LIKES OF BOB, ROGER ROGER ETC. WAKE UP AND LIVE!

  31. On “THE MMD has advised former Kafue United Party for National Development (UPND) member of Parliament (MP) Bob Sichinga to desist from demonising the economic policies of Government… spokesperson Dora Siliya said Mr Sichinga should refrain from attacking Government economic policies but should instead appreciate the economic gains the country has achieved under the leadership of President Banda” it is regretable that we have government ministers and MMD ruling party officials who just want praises and reject being told the truth as well as being advised about things.

For Sichinga, I appeal to him to seriously consider rejoining the mighty UPND TEAM now so that he does not lose out on sending his messages against MMD effectively.

Be blest all and vote for UPND.

    Matt…

  32. Please tell me the meaning of the sentence below from Senior Citizen?
“The country and the world would appreciate if he led independent minds in comparative analysis of public policy orientation of political entities on this year’s campaign trail.”
Simple does it, why not just say, he would be better off, comparing the policies from the various political parties rather than mismatching words in sentences to sound clever to those who are literacy challenged. Mr Senior Citizen we all love Zambia, but even you should know the levels of poverty and inequalities can not be defended by any one who has a heart for people. We have the resources and they are making other people richer. What is the role of a govt? If not improving the well being of its people as a priority to other things??

  33. #15economy of schools and hospitals including mobile hospitals. A lot has been said about so many things under construction. But let us consider the following: Luwingu High School has a capacity of 1500 pupils but only takes 500 pupils because of the delapidation of the fadilities. In the meantime, another two high schools are being built less than 100 km away. What could have been better and cheaper? To maintain the existing school and increase intake to its capacity or build new ones. Most of the projrcts being undertaken are political projects without any economic value.
