Team of Former Senior UPND officials in Western Province explain why they joined PF

Share

A team of former senior United Party for National Development [UPND] officials in Kalabo, on Tuesday addressed a rally at Kashitu main market to explain why they opted to remain in the Patriotic Front following the collapse of the UPND-PF Pact.

The team of former Western Province UPND Provincial Executive Committee that addressed the rally comprised former Provincial Vice Chairperson David Muzinda, Provincial Youth Chairman Mundia Samwene and former Provincial Publicity Secretary Teddy Chimbinde.

Others who accompanied the team at the rally facilitated by Western Province PF Publicity Secretary Litula Litula were former Sikongo Member of Parliament Colonel Kapanga Makumba and Lieutenant colonel Kaneta Simuyawa.

[pullquote]Mr. Samwene also said Mr. Sata has more Members of Parliament next to the ruling MMD than Mr. Hichilema adding that even Lusaka was dominated by PF Members of Parliament from an assortment of  tribes unlike the UPND.[/pullquote]

Former Western Province UPND Youth Chairman Mundia Samwene said the team opted to go by British based Professor Clive Chirwa’s findings following an out-cry from the public who wanted to know the UPND-PF Pact Presidential candidate.

Mr. Samwene said that the findings of Professor Chirwa were that Michael Sata could be the best Presidential candidate to challenge President Rupiah Banda in this year’s general elections.

Mr. Samwene said that this was on grounds that Mr. Sata had the more followers as opposed to UPND President Hakainde Hichilema going by the Presidential election results of 2008.

Mr. Samwene also said Mr. Sata has more Members of Parliament next to the ruling MMD than Mr. Hichilema adding that even Lusaka was dominated by PF Members of Parliament from an assortment of tribes unlike the UPND.

Mr. Samwene said that these were some of the reasons that made some senior Western Province UPND officials to opt to remain in the PF after the collapse of the Pact.

  1. There should be more reasons that those because issues to do with partys manifesto and what that candidate should be able to deliver the country to is what should matter.

  2. it is very true that PF has members in parliment then the UPND, lets just vote this man MR chilufye SATA this year please if we want change. This the Hichilemas and friends will not bring change to uor mother country zambia plaese get it from me.I thought that the comming of the PACT will bring change now look what chikala HH has done,Very disapointing ka. You guys from W/province contiue what you are doing thanks very much to zambian.

  3. Dull reasoning from people with as senior ranks as Colonel. I am very disappointed with their thinking capacity.

  4. I hope UPND will say Kaponyas are joining the PF. Wellcome to the progressive party we recommend and appreciate your understanding on what is obtaining on the ground and be part of this change, tell the rest that the vote for HH is a vote for RB.

  5. People who ar joining pf ar dull people, what leadership do they see in pf really even RB is far much better than SATA go we will remain ed others for sure they come back b4 the election.the real i see is in HH only.

  6. PF continue dreaming about western vote. Those so called former UPND officials will not last in PF by election time. As you can perceive no more resignations of UPND members other than these disgruntled fellows. Even in Kalabo where Best makumba comes from you have not heard of mass resignation from upnd despite the rally the deluded fellows had. Somebody will be shamed here, unless you do not know Zambian politics and defection propaganda.

  7. Sata commmands a large following even beating trhe incubent president. So irrepective of tribe Lozi bemba tonga luvale chokwe, lunda, mambwe Nsenga let us support a candidate who commands a popular majority.Mr Milupi kindly join forces with Mr Sata and form an alliance or pact. You can negotiate for the post of vice president.

  8. Those of you saying voting for HH is voting for RB dont you know that RB is better than sata. I will vote for HH as amatter of principle being the best candidate and according to your theory, conversly give RB votes as second best instead of somebody who has no agenda for this country. I think we will have better politics after the 2011 as sata will certainly be a thing of the past and will only appear in history as a big political joker.

  9. Mr Sata as a true democrate and father of the nation please start negotiating with the Milupis of this world for an alliance, the Lozis people have suffered with under development.Edith Nawakwi, please rehearse with Mr Milupi and support a popular candidate

  10. If those were the reasons behind your crossing over, then i am sorry to say UPND did well to send you to your peers in PF where such shallow reasoning is one of the entry qualifications. What I think is that you realised on time that your chances of being adopted as parliamentary candidates for UPND were almost non-existent considering your low reasoning levels. Enjoy the company of your fellows and never come back to The Real Change.

  11. What shall we do if Sata lets Chiluba free the way RB has done? What shall we do if Sata lets free all the MMD thugs currently busy stealing from public office?

  12. The truth is that money is at play in Western Province. Mmembe has ill-advised Sata to win in rural areas. Unfortunately, though the Western province count decided the win in 2008, it was by virtue of some pollind stations from there being counted last…that does not give the Western Province a huge weighting to decide the election results. It has one of the lowest populations in the country with many parts of the province inaccessible. Let Sata spend the time to what may not really mean much. I know the Lozi people; they will chew the money and give an impression they are for Sata…over my dead body! I guarantee this.

  13. progressive think.good decision gentlemen we need u and evryone around there in western province to chase the thieves out of the office. VIVA PF the incoming govt

  14. PIPO, TALK NOW….SINCE MOST OF U ARE STILL SAYING ITS PROPAGANDER….PF IS GAINING POPULARITY EACH DAY CHANDA CHIMBA OPENS HIS FOUL MOUTH…

  15. Solo so an angel and the message was delivered and I am delivering to you now that the MMD Govt has lost the elections. PF forms the next GRZ True or False

  16. PF is using money to incite people to move away from UPND in Western Province. This is clear because immediately these guys resign, they are expensive arrangements for them to address meetings. This is clearly not sustainable – the guys are just money hungry and the moment they get home, they are UPND all the way to the polling station and PF will cry like babies. Wait and see. Westerners, eat their cash whenever it appears, just keep the promise and keep campaigning for UPND after all those paid for public meetings.

  17. Hey people are you say that Prof Chirwa is also dull? isn’t he who proposed what these people are saying?

  18. These people who defected have no reason at all, last week the reason for their defection was that they were not consulted by HH before he left the pact as to whether to leave or stay, but today it is prof. Chirwa’s proposal, just state the truth that you were paid, a lie cannot stand on it’s own as it needs other lies to support it. Even if UPND could not accept professor Chirwa’s proposal which was not handled well by the same pf party, they had a reason to push for equal partnership, considering that PF had 23 mps after expelling the 22 who attended the NCC and UPND has 26 after after gaining 3 from MMD and expelling Chizyuka. So any reasonable human being would say UPND also had the right for presidency as those 22 expelled MPS use to vote with MMD in parliament.

  19. HH and his blind tribesmen who are supporting him have VERY POOR political judgement because this tonga tribalist is very far from the throne of presidency and he can never win his APC as a partner. These former UPND officials know that only PF can bring change which Zambians badly want. These westerners are not tribalists because they could have joined Milupi if they wanted.
IF YOU WANT CHANGE, VOTE SATA AND PF IN 2011.

  20. UPND DID NOT WANT TO TAKE ADVICE FROM prof Chirwa because the prof is not t***a but he comes from a tribe which has produced distinguished profs for mother Zambia.:-\”

  21. #21 it depends on the angle you are looking at things, whether on normality or bias. Us Lozis see pf as the most tribal party in Zambia because it is full of Bembas while UPND top positions are held be non-Tongas only HH is a Tonga. Tongas are more accomodative and many tribes including Lozis have managed to live well with them, your only problem you Lozis is that you do not support anyone who is non-Bemba, instead you quickly call them tribalists. Saki is an MP in Southern province, Bob Sichinga was an MP for Kafue which has Tonga majority, this cannot happen in Luapula (mansa) or Northern(Luwingu) for a Lozi or Tonga to stand as member of parliament. The truth is that you Bembas cannot support non-Bembas, as you rejected Mazoka despite him being a good leader. Viva HH, Lozis are wise

  22. #23 pf mentality of missing the point and rush into propaganda. The main point was pf never handled that proposal in a right way and that frustrated the partners. No matter how you want to paint the picture to make pf clean in the death of the pact, the truth will always remain in the minds of all zambians that PF was the one to blame. They never regarded their partners in the pact, and are just realising it now that the pact is over. HH lost friends, mps and even allies due to clinging to the pact alone where he was the only one commited. PF just recognised the pact after it’s death. So #23 if you are still in the past or you luck information just remain behind alone, as for us zambians we know what is at stake.

    • right, but HH can achieve greater heights by sitting with those who are short-sighted and finding a solution to fulfill aspirations of zambians.

  23. Patriotic Front (PF) leader Michael Sata Thursday failed to climb the stairs of Lotti House where he was scheduled to feature on 5fm Radio.
Sata who went to the building discovered that the elevators were down and the only alternative was to climb the stairs to the ninth floor where the radio station is located.
Sata, who was born in 1937 attempted to go as far as the third floor before going back saying he could not. He told the radio station management and his escort team that he  has a medical history that does not allow him to undertake such strenuous activities.
The radio station was forced to cancel the programme despite the heavy advertisement that preceded it.

  24. #24, I am sure if you have travelled aroound Zambia (to every district) as I did, you would have noticed that a lot of tribes including tongas have migrated and still migrating to central/copperbelt and northern provinces are now living happily amongests themselves. It is very ilogical to suggest that some zambian tribes cannot live together.

  25. Donchi kubeba, when you formed the Pact we told you that it could not last mainly because it was like trying to mix oil with water, also their only common ground was removal of MMD from power. You argued with us for one year, and now it has happened. For one year you failed to think strategically and see the real thing. Now we are telling you yet gaian that you are wasting time with PF and you are arguing again. When will you learn?

  26. @HH.SATA. They goal of unseating the MMD was ans should have good enough.More unlikely persons have joined hands in history. The anarchists and comunists and liberals in the spanish civil war.The allies in the second world war, stalin roosevelt and churchill. If a political discussion had taken place with those three chaos would have ensued. But Hitler was the enemy and that was enough to smooth any differences. As should hav been the case with MM and the pact. But they acted foolishly-i say so because both parties are responsible for its failure…But no worries. Those of us who firstly want to see the back of mmd will vote for whoever seems more likely to get RB and sons out of State house…And we all know who that is.

  27. Where are the tonga bulls, the senior UPND members, nkanshi, Mr. Madyankuku and Mr. Segani.? They need to help HH with real honest advice aganist tribalism, arrogance and insults
