The Press Association of Zambia (PAZA) has castigated former Works and Supply Minister Mike Mulongoti for attacking public media institutions.
PAZA Executive Secretary, Patson Phiri said it was unfair for a former minister who also served under the Information and Broadcasting Services Ministry to accuse the public media of being biased in their news coverage.
Mr. Phiri challenged Mr. Mulongoti to explain what major contributions he made towards improvement of operations of the public media when he served as a minister.
He said Mr. Mulongoti failed to address the plight of public media during his time and wondered why he had to wait all this time until he was fired to speak evil about the public media.
Mr. Phiri told ZANIS in an interview in Lusaka today that Mr. Mulongoti’s remarks were only meant to please the opposition.
He said public media institutions have an obligation to highlight the many developmental projects the Government of the day was undertaking in the country.
He defended their operations saying it was through the same media that many people were now aware and appreciated Government for its works aimed at developing and uplifting their living standards.

Mr. Phiri advised the former Minister to examine whether the same private media he was now supporting was objective and ethical in their reporting.
He also advised Mr. Mulongoti to stop issuing unnecessary statements when he was aggrieved but rather seek dialogue.
Mr. Mulogoti yesterday lashed out at the three Public media particularly the Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation (ZNBC), Zambia Daily Mail and the Times of Zambia charging that they were biased in their news coverage.
Mr. Mulongoti who featured on a live Mobi Television Programme dubbed Open Forum said the public media was biased and lacked credibility.
The Former Minister who also used the same public media to attack his perceived enemies when he was in Government said news in the public media was one sided and only centered on President Rupiah Banda and his government.
He also charged that editors in the public media had lost credibility and their ethics as they were not serving the public interest but the interest of the ruling Government and President Banda.
The former minister claimed that when he was Information Minister in charge he gave out licenses to various media institutions for them to operate freely and not to be confined to covering only the Government of the day.
And when asked whether he would accept any appointment from Government if he was appointed to any portfolio, Mr. Mulongoti said there was nothing left for him to benefit from the ruling Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD).
Mr. Mulongoti said he had other ambitions in which he would explore to contribute to the nation’s development.

Chiwamila galu..!!!! =d>
mulongoti is very intelligent, welcome to UPND
Welcome to the club my dear MULONGOTI. We used to tell you. Learn to be good on your way up.
Patson has been a shu shu shu since college days at Evelyn Hone so right now he’s a campaign tool for MMD, thats why for the first time we have heard his voice.
Unbeleiveable!! Today he’s now blasting the same guys that gave him time to attack the opposition!! Don’t these guys have any sense of shame. As I said, I shall be most dissapointed if any opposition party takes on this chap, hope he gets hit by a train.
Oh pliz Mike shut up,there is time for everything and your time came. What development can you honestly contribute to Zambia? Your guesthouse speaks volumes.
The long-term solution is to privitise the ZDM and ToZ while at the same time making ZNBC a public broadcaster by “commerliasing” it and removing all GRZ subsidies.
THIS GARBAGE……, #2 DO YOU JUST WANT TO HAVE NEW MEMBERS IN UPND? THIS IS VERY DISASTROUS. THIS MAN WAS MINISTER IN-CHARGE OF GOVT CONTROLLED MEDIA. THE CHAP WAS VERY VOCAL, BUSY ATTACKING THE OPPOSITION WHEN THEY COMPLAINED ABOUT UNFAIR COVERAGE. WHAT HAS CHANGED? SHAME ON YOU MULONGOTI. THIS IS THE PROBLEM OF NOT WANTING TO BE ECONOMICALLY INDEPENDENT.
He is sounding like a divorced man that is very bitter after discovering that his best mate was sleeping with his ex wife while in marriege and fathered the children that he thought was his children. Mulongoti is spitting on the same plate that he ate from!!
MULONGOTI. NIGGER PLEASE On this one and for once i will agree in advance with whatever SENIOR CITIZEN or 3Es will say.
Iwe Mulongoti, that is a braggadaccio way of thinking (as Mpombo would put it)….answer those questions, what did you do for free media and freedom of information as well as the znbc acts when you where the minister of (mis-) information???
You are a fool ka Ci.kala ka mulongoti, welcome to the other end, the cracking, of the stick! Can you feel the vibe? lol!!!!! Shut up mike we heard enough of your bull!
#4 M’make Mpundu, you are right. Patson’s brother was an accountant at Shu Shu Shu hq. The fella died in mysterious circumstances. Patson tried to get close to a senior politicians under Chiluba and under Levy. I don’t know now under Rupiah.
Anyway, Mulongoti naeve achita over. Politicians enjoying power now should learn from him because the same dogs (ref Mumbi Phiri) whose leashes he used to pull are the ones now barking at him. I hope they soon start barking at Shikaphwisi.
This is a good example or is it a lesson to all big headed politicians. The guy has completely changed. He is now attacking the same things he was praising. What a nut!
OH… now the media is biased,Mr Mulongoti don’t think we are fools to forget so soon….man you were the one who viciously defended public media, you sugar coated it to make us believe its not biased.what has happened today….how does it feel….to be beaten by the snake you claimed was your friend.why anyway should you cry the loudest….for us here the public media being biased ni normal, you must be kicking yourself in the face when you think of how you hounded Magande from the party…..stop crying and enjoy the ride….
U are so right! Mulongoti should first come in the open and apologise. For defendinh the shitate media as Minister. Only then can we start considering his barkings
He has gone epileptic with his disorientation self presuming all of us Zambians are daft and him alone is the master scumbag. The chap is manifesting signs of selective amnesia.
Mr Mike Just Shut the F&^%$ up or give us the secrets of MMD so that we can get them OUT THIS YEAR
# 16 YOU ARE VERY RIGHT BUT NOT LONG AGO THE SAME VERY CHAP WAS YOUR BOSS KA PA ZED KUTI WASEBANA!!!!!
what goes around comes around
You are most welcome in UPND.
I agree with you mr Phiri for lambasting Mulongoti but don’t defend the spineless arselicking public media.
Just end with Mulongoti’s hypocrisy and you will be alright. Most of what you are alleged to have said in support of State owned media by propagandist ZANIS is only fit for the trashbin.
The biggest chimbwi of them all. Hypocrite of the worst kind.
Hypocrite!!!!!
Its too late for MM to realize that things are not done the way they are supposed to be done. MM used to attack his opponents through the same media, so what has changed now? These guys who are serving us forget that one day they will come down, hence when you are a leader you should learn to listen to what people tell you because no man is an island. %%-
I keep saying that Mulongoti along with politicians like him must now retire or at the very least desist from issuing any statements. In their desperation they can’t see how clownish they look contradicting what they stood for not too long ago. Fellow citizens, let’s concentrate on new avenues and explore alternatives. This habit of co-habiting with our tormentors once they have fallen out would make the French revolution supporters feel ashamed!! Forward ever, backward never. Let those like Mulongoti remain by the wayside. Opposition parties, please close your gates!!!!
Mulongoti its you who was strongly agitating for statutory media regulation. And when the people said its no good you with Shikaopwasha viciously attacked them through the samw dogs. Now you see, if the media was free and independent and I mean the public media you would still be able to use them positively and Times, Daily Znbc will all give you air time because no one would be telling them who to and not to host. Feel it Mike?? Thats what we meant.
Its a shame our politicians have no principals or ideaological stance. To them politics is a career and thats where we have the biggest problem. No one should let Mike join them, guys like him can not be relied upon. Let him rote because he is not fit to be a leader. He is just a selfish, greedy, lier, thief etc. I was tormenting Mpombo aka
Mike just shut the feck up and retire in limbo. You are the same clown who was bullying the same state media you are complaining about. We m.bw.a we. Get used to them ignoring you and only covering you when you are in s.hi.t.
Ahh,he is now condemning the same media he used to oppress oponents….these chaps never seize to amaze.Anyway he jst remainds me of Sata.
Caona m’nzako, capita, m’mawa cili pa iwe.
If Sata becomes President, by this time next year, The Post will be reporting from Chiparamba everyday!
Leave him alone, he is just a ¨MIKROFONI¨!
Do pylons produce electricity? Don´t they just transmit it?
What a shame. The BIBLE is very clear on such issues “Do unto others as u wish them to do unto u”.I would jst like to add that any opposition party that welcomes this scumbag is headed for disaster. To PF leadership, people who leave on their own are more principled than those who are fired/expelled/booted out/whatever.The likes of Misapa,Kabijimpanga,Mpombo are more dignified and welcome than the the likes of Mulongoti.Even Shakas has more dignity in the eyes of Zambians because he spoke out even before things got worse. To those still in the MMD wilderness, do not hesitate,do not doubt, PF is ready to divide the sea and help u cross it;dry your tears for Micheal “Moses” Sata is here to lead the exodus out of “Pharaoh RB’s Egypt”.The time to leave is now; no more second chances.
Mike mulongoti please dont be a muppet.you made your made now lay in it.oh,and welcome to the real world.
SENIOR CITIZEN, i am happy that you are now hammering Mulongoti WHO USED TO BE YOUR PAL!! Next time you will say the same about RB when he quits MMD or when you QUIT MMD, whichever will come FIRST!!!!!!
Presidential Debate: Miyanda please persuade Michael Satana to be a little civilised. Otherwise SATA will not give chance to the moderator to do so. Mr. Mulongoti you said the nation missed an opportunity for a state funeral when Mpombo escaped lynching from the Baboons. Again you advised Mpombo to careful with his language predicting Mpombo would need you when in Prison. The Judge saved you sentence after getting a conviction. Now tell us are you still stuck with that mind of always wishing your friends bad. Shame on you Ka mulongoti who told you that you have substance for you to challenge the appointing authority. mulongoti sucks the law he has aquired at advanced age wont take him any where . the chap cant think foward
This man is very bitter he needs spiritual healing. Bu FUZI bubi
Let us be serious! The Chap did not go through any election and you expect him to make meaningful contribution!!! I would not welcome him into my party if I had one. Such are burdens especially when handpicked.
Mr Mulongoti pliz shut up , i remember when you were Minister of Information we had a problem in one of the Public Media and as a union we came to seek audience with you, BUT did you help us? NO,NO. So pliz stop making NOISE you are irritating me,Remember What Goes Around Comes Around.
