THE Ministry of Education has released K10 billion for payment of personal emoluments to teachers in all the provinces.Ministry of Education Permanent Secretary in charge of human resource and administration, Andrew Phiri said in a statement in Lusaka that K1.2 billion had been disbursed in Lusaka while K1 billion was allocated to Central Province.
The ministry allocated K1.5 billion to the Copperbelt Province, K1 billion to Western Province, K1 billion to Luapula Province and K1 billion to North-Western Province.
Southern Province was given K1.2 billion, Northern province had K1.1 billion while Eastern Province got K1 billion.Mr Phiri implored all provincial education officers to work with the teachers’ unions to promote accountability and transparency.“Old cases must take precedence over new cases.
Payments must be processed expeditiously, especially retirement and terminal cases.“Lastly but not the least, expenditure returns must be submitted to the Ministry of Education headquarters and the Ministry of Finance and National Planning,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Zambia National Union of Teachers (ZNUT) has welcomed the Government’s commitment to addressing issues affecting teachers.
ZNUT general secretary Newman Bubala said in an interview that the union was happy with the release of K10 billion to settle outstanding payments.
Mr Bubala said the release of the money by the Government was a good gesture which had given them hope that all the K83 billion allocated for clearing teachers’ allowances in this year’s Budget would be disbursed.
He said what was more pleasing was that the K10 billion was the second installment of the K83 billion allocation to be released within a shortperiod of time.

I honestly think this is not news, why are they telling us, the money is owed to the teachers, ninkongole!
Well goon news. Wish the government was as productive all the time as it is proving to be of late. I wonder why:-?
Waiting to hear what will happen to other ministries where salaries ahve not yet been paid.
Thts the way to go . Elections or no elections that is their money they deserve it. Do not politicise issues. We shall also wait for their money 90 days after loosing
These paymenys are normal things that ought to be done whenever documents are filled in by the teachers. The fact that they are not made regularly means that the MMD are NOT particularly happy to do their work. You can also see the opposite where no single politician has ever been made to wait for his/her benefits when in office. Even RB wants to be paid BEFORE his term is even done!! This is how dirty this party is . Do not Vote for the MMD and any of its candidates. Let them eat sand for rice for a change.
Chama District should be audited because some teachers who were appointed in 2006 have not been paid especially those who have been transferred to Chipata, Mambwe and Lundazi. The first district for these teachers was Chama, therefore, Chama district has the obligation to pay them settling in allowances. Its their entitlement.
thats tha way to go.you should also look at UNZA now..!
It’s gratifying when people’s problems are solved. Pls be consistent and make it a trend to improve on these issues, not just at election time. I also appreciate the union showing gratitude for things done well. Congratulations to GRZ and the teachers of the land for working together in developing the nation’s future. Keep it up.
Don’t kubeba civil servants for you are our people.
Your salaries speak volumes of your voting pattern.
Be part of the ballot revolution.
Viva wind of change come 2011.
Pabwatoooooo Mwamukoloooooo
There seems to be a lot of money flying around nowadays . Where’s it coming from ? ..It’s never been there in the past.
A clear indication that our govt thinks zambians are fools. Isn’t this govt planning to privatise public schools because they said they dont have the money to run them, where have the billions suddenly come from and when is that money going to be paid out bfo or after election? if its after then just know that teachers have been taken for a ride. they will never see the money. If its paid they will make sure that they recover it back through privatisation of schools.
Government has built more schools of late, good schools for that matter. Thumbs up they need a pat on the back regardless of the motive. The problem we have especially in Mfuwe is that schools have no desks and pupils are sitting on the floor. Its pathetic. Why concentrate on building schools only? Let government also buy desks for old schools.
POLITICS AND POLITICIANS MACHING OVER TO ELECTIONS, there is always a contagious disease called BLIND BRIBERY charecterized by flashing money at rallies, selling council houses, paying arreas to civil servants, brown envelops to traditional leaders (chiefs) UH the list is endless
