Former Defence Minister George Mpombo has pleaded not guilty to three counts of theft by public servant, forgery and uttering false document in the Lusaka Magistrate court.
Mr. Mpombo has denied all the three charges leveled against him after taking plea before Chief Resident Magistrate Joshua Banda Wednesday this morning.
Particulars of the offense are that between June and September 2008, the Kafulafuta parliamentarian being a public servant as Minister of Defence, did steal 18-Million Kwacha which came into his possession by virtue of employment.
In the second count, it is alleged that Mr. Mpombo, jointly and whilst acting together with others unknown, did forge a document.
The document in question was a Tax invoice number 6358, and receipts number 2846 and 4468, purporting to show that it was genuinely issued when in fact not.
The Kafulafuta MP is further alleged to have fraudulently uttered false documents namely two receipts, a tax invoice and retirement of special imprest forms to Winter Simwinji Mhlanga.
Mr. Mpombo is being represented by Lusaka Lawyer Wynter Kabimba.
And Magistrate Banda has set June 7 as the date for the possible commencement of trial in the matter.

I like Mpombi he seems intriguing listening to him. I just think he made a horrendous mistake when he back stabbed the current government, I find it hard to think where he goes from here, I think he may struggle if you ask me. Anyone else thinks the same, I also wonder why he has not been charged with defaming the president, when he called the president, and i quote, ‘that chap lies between his teeth’ thats a case right? It’s not a much of a case, dear. There’s more to worry about in Zambia than a distrcting i.dio.t. RB, unlike other past presidents ignores personal attacks. He’s too mature for Mpombo. He’s jst dragged into these talks. In fact, the ‘fixing’ of Mpombo is being done by other cadres not RB himself.
Mpombo your crime is leaving the MMD. You will suffer just like others have done in the past. Pray hard that PF wins, maybe you can be set free.

My freind dwa somthing No.4. I think Mushota is righ. its a criminal offence under our laws in Zambia to even say the president is silly. So Yes why is he not charged??????. Am an ex-Officer.

Well from bouncing a 10m kwacha cheque to fraud now thats graduation if this is true that is…but am sure with hi bombastic language like Lakunle in Oldman and the Medal he should be able to flabbergast and bambozolo the lay magistrate who will not have the iota to comprehend that imprest of a minister attaches semblences of chichanery and titanic proportions mingled with authorisation from the President and Secretary to the Cabinet.
Wow, what a breath of fresh air! Mushota has talked some sense for a change. Well, what Mpombo said is not criminal in our law and is not an insult by any standard. Though I’m sure it’s annoying to the person so addressed.
As for the new charges against Mpombo, he’s paying for the way he’s fighting the MMD. If he had never started the fight with them, he would still be a free man. Personally knowing what other things he did when he was defence minister, this is just a tip of the iceberg and I’m wondering what took them so long to charge him.

Ooohhm, cases against Mpombo piling up. I know there are a lot of loopholes in GRZ but these are exposed the moment you leave. Double standards. Talking to ministry of Finance guys, they will tell you all ministers haveunretired imprest. Collectively they are guilty but they will only persue you once you turn around and attack them.
I was in the court room when the Mpombo took plea. First he started by using his usual big words. When asked to explain what he meant, he started explaining in LAMBA before his lawyer gave him a face towel to clean his beads
Mpombo will plead that the Auditor General had overdose of serious maringnant imperfections that resulted and boomeranged as the draft audit report was never presented to me as auditee to counteract the veracious and ignoble concoctions haphazardly included in the report.In short your worship,the auditors were under severe RB amnesia that distorted their otherwise trajectory professional report.May the evidence be dismissed by this honorable court.
Mpombo is a reincanation of one of Queen Victoria’s servants!
I will treat the re-encanation of Mushota with alot of suspicion. This might not be the real Mushota we know. The real one was thrown in a lake of acid at the height of fury and hatred.
