MTN: UNION NEGOTIATION PROCESS STILL ONGOING
Further to the recent media reports attributed to the National Union of Communication Workers (NUCW) regarding MTN Zambia’s redundancy benefits payments to employees affected by its restructuring, MTN Zambia would like to advise the general public as follows:
Firstly MTN Zambia is surprised with the statement by NUCZ as the consultations amongst all the affected parties including the government agencies are still ongoing.
Throughout the transition process, the wellbeing of our staff has been of critical importance to us. In this regard, MTN Zambia would like to advise the general public that it has secured alternative employment for all its employees affected by the restructuring on no less favourable terms and conditions. Redundancy benefits are being paid over and above this and other financial and non financial benefits.
MTN Zambia is not aware of any pending court action against it. We however would like to assure the general public that MTN Zambia will fully comply with all contractual and legal obligations.
The statement attributable to NUCW is therefore regrettable.
ongoing my foot….. we have met a deadlock in the negotiations so what are you saying Mr. MTN STOP LYING TO THE PUBLIC
SETTING THE RECORD STRAIGHT
==========================
First all MTN is again trying to be insincere in this press statement and as a member of the negotiating team I wish to set the record straight.
1) Our Union president Patrick Kaonga DID NOT say he has SUED MTN. He just threatened to sue and for the whole of MTN to say in public that it is not aware of any pending law suit is plain silly
2) The negotiations have stalled because MTN is insisting on settling the former workers’ redundancy packages using the minimum wage. As a negotiating team we have rejected this and this is what we are on record for.
Please come out sincerely here. Put your offer out and let the people judge. It benefits we are talking about and not what you are and what u do ..bla bla..
:o
Who made this statement?? And then you are saying integrity is one of your values, MTN you are a big company that is highly respected. You made a mistake just clean up not going out telling lies. You are paying over and above what??? Am so ashamed on your behalf that you would lie like this.
MTN Shameless liars!!Â
MTN, THOT U GUYS CAN BE TRUSTED, BUT NOT ANYMO AND BCOZ OF THIS, YOU HAVE JUST LOST ONE CLIENT NOW…DAMN THESE CEL4NI PROVIDAZ…….MONEYSUKAZ AS USUAL
chines at work again twapapata mwe buteko buleisa utulubule kuli RB
The High Court in Ndola has ruled in favour of former Zamtel employees who sued Zamtel for compensation.
Zamtel will now pay the former employee as follows
1. 3 months pay by the number of years served 2. 25% interest due to inflation and the lapsed time. 3. Zamtel will bear all taxes. ( Now is besides what Zamtel paid them as redundancy packages) If you ask me the NUCW has a strong case if they take MTN to Court . DON’T KUBEBA
I am one of the affected and I feel they have just brought this on themselves. This could have been avoided but now there is no turning back. Providing alternative employment which just a one year contract isnt compensation considering we were coming from permanent positions. Come on MTN we are the group that worked tirelessly to bring you to where you are right now enjoying the 2M subs and the just dump us just like that.
VIVA NUCW! For a moment i thought you were a let down! VIVA NUCW!
I think if the negotiations are on going and the conclusion hhas not been reached and MTN just put an offer on the table, then the Union has no right to start accusing MTN deciding to give them minimum wage. It is premature for the Union. What they need to do is put on the table their offer. It seems both parties are still talking and in any negotiation, everyone start from their strongest position and meet in the middle.
As always the truth is always in the middle. Ba Union go back with your offer. If MTN says no and minimum wage is their final offer , then you can make noise. Also don’t blame MTN for the low minimum wage blam RB and the FAT BOY Liato. They are the ones who set the minimu wage offer
Papa J,
You can not go on negotiating forever this must be time bound. They have been negotiating since mid March, MTN is not moving its still at 2 months so its not premature its actually late. This issue went as far as the minister but MTN said they go back and negotiate but then after going back they still dont want to move so it doesnt make sense at all. Thats how come you now see NUCW threatening to sue. The law say these guy do not qualify for minimum wage, it should be negotiated, so it should be above the minimum set. This law is in black and white. These guy are not just making noice from without, if anything this issue has been handled very well by the affected coz no one knew this was going on.
MTN should own up and to terms with the truth! These people have neva been willing to negotiate from word go. Notice that this move of outsourcing was made known to workers on 9th February, 2011, since the NUCW has neva gone to the press
You poor souls. Get with the real world!! As professionals take your profession to the open market. Why do you need a union? Are you so weak as to not know what is going on in the real world?? Oh wait that is the point, maybe you do need a union as your behavior is not that of a professional.Â
The poor soul is he that smiles when someone is stepping his toes !!!!
Am not shocked mtn wants to pay its workers less what they deserve. These mobile service providers ll do anything to make super profits. Airtel has been cheatin its customers for far too long;from inception as celtel, zain and now airtel. This company has blood of crookedness in its DNA. Teething problems for this company range from poor customer service, poor network reception inflated rates etc. Its recent 60min free promotion is an eye sore and act of crookedness. Its a wishy washy exercise.
