FLASHBACK: President Banda with Turkish counterpart Adbullah Gul during his State visit to Turkey.

President Rupiah Banda, is tomorrow scheduled to leave for Istanbul, Turkey, where he will be among other world leaders attending the Fourth United Nations Conference on Least Developed Countries (LDCs).

The President will also meet his Turkish counterpart, Abdullah Gul, for bilateral discussions that are set to further benefit the two countries’ already warm relations.

This is according to a statement released to ZANIS in Lusaka today by Special Assistant to the President for Press and Public Relations Dickson Jere Banda.

Mr. Jere said the LDCs conference is an important forum for Zambia and other LDCs including cooperating partners as it will re-examine the entire development paradigm in light of existing and emerging global challenges and existing poverty.

The President will be accompanied to Turkey by Finance and National Planning Minister Situmbeko Musokotwane, and Foreign Affairs Minister Kabinga Pande.

President Banda’s administration has continued to place poverty reduction at the heart of Zambia’s development agenda.

A series of national planning frameworks have since been developed in line with the Brussels Programme of Action, with Zambia registering significant economic progress.

The Brussels Programme of Action is aimed at making substantial progress towards achieving equitable sustained, growth and development. It also focuses on minimizing the marginalization of the LDCs and assisting them graduate from the LDC status.

Like many other LDCs, Zambia desires to increase her productive capabilities, diversify the economy, achieve market access and call for fair trade practices, benefit from technology transfer, and improve infrastructure so as to lift people out of poverty.

President Banda launched the Sixth National Development Plan (SNDP) 2011-2016 which is focused on infrastructure development as a vehicle to drive Zambia’s development agenda.

The President’s delegation is expected to return to Zambia after completing the scheduled business in Turkey.

  10. At least he is admitting that Zambia is a LEAST DEVELOPED COUNTRY (LDC) instead of the usual rubbish about how much development MMD has brought. If so, then why is Zambia a LDC?

  11. # 10 James you are dull. You dont know what LDC is!!!Why comment on a subject you are ignorant about?

  12. Beware Turkey; the Countries RB visits lately end up in turmoil, look at what happened to Egypt after his visit to woo investors, talk of inviting Libyan investors and what followed, when he visited Nigeria on 50 independence anniversary last year in October, militants set off bombs close to the celebrations. If I was RB I with all these signs I would put off travel for a while.

Chagua bidii.

  16. Tour of duty! The Turkish people will have  kebabs and pizzerias at every corner of Lusaka city soon! RB is working too much some duties he should delegate them to his ministers, his age is not good for gallivanting!

  17. say?n ba?bakan, türkiye’ye ho? geldiniz… sal? günü görü?mek üzere:)))
welcome to turkey mr president. hope to meet ya on tuesday:)))

  18. Why this RB President only interested in screwed up countries? Libya, Pakistan, DRC and TURKEY??? of all countries sure? The only decent country he has befriended with is Brazil. His friend PF Sata atleast goes to places like UK, USA,…

  19.  I’m getting worried, this our President has high affinity for Islamic nations, very soon Al Qaeda will be planning their terrorist attacks from Zambia, as Zambian Intelligence has no capacity to counter such an organisation that gives USA sleepless nights. I was disappointed when I visited Zambia last year & travelled to Chipata, I found a lot of Masjid along Great East Road, & more so in Eastern Province, is it becoming a Muslim? I won’t be surprised that next time they will be demanding sharia & killing Christians in Eastern Province, & using those temples for terrorist activities. Please wake up my fellow Easterners. Lets protect our Christianity.

  20. Some of the comments are like those of rebel comrades in Libya or coming from brothers of the deposed Ivorian former president Gbagbo. Some of you need to appreciate when you see good things taking place in your country. Wait until you see PF Michael Sata in State house. You will never have your matako on the chair as the other commentator said. They will always be plotting some trajectrory in space. Please give Bwezani a break. Let him do his job and you do yours then together we can develop the country.

    G. K The Patriot I think you are out of touch with Zambia. You don’t know that the CIA and the FBI are deeply rooted in Lusaka. Any sign of AL-Qaeda will be quickly picked up and delt with in no time at all.

Bwezani is going no where. We will vote for him.

  21. #12
You are now behaving like that son of a low class prostitute called Snr Citizen on GRZ payroll. This alcoholic Bwezani is not in Turkey to attract FDI but accumalte his allowances. He is good at making promises and has done jack shit. When will the Turkish airlines fly into Zambia, What has happened to the ring roads, the Northern Circuit tourism project and the list goes on.Please keep reading that toilet paper alled Daily mail or Times of Zambia and we will surely become a developing country in 2030 from a LDC.Compare Bwezani to Kagame and u will see who has a vision between the 2
