We are building bright future for youths — RB

PRESIDENT Rupiah Banda has reinforced his commitment to building a better future for all Zambians, particularly young people, by providing a stable economy and strengthening Zambia’s investment climate.

Mr Banda said in a statement released yesterday by Special Assistant to the president for Press and Public Relations Dickson Jere, to mark Africa Freedom Day that his Government had helped boost employment and training opportunities, especially for young people who were at the heart of Zambia’s future.

He said this year’s theme, “Accelerating youth empowerment for sustainable development”, was appropriate because youths, who formed 68 per cent of Zambia’s population, were important in national development and could not be ignored.

President Banda said young people were an important human resource which should be harnessed if the country was to develop.

He pledged continued youth empowerment, through initiatives such as the Youth Development Fund and Citizens Economic Empowerment Fund which he said eased access to finance for youth entrepreneurs.

“My great hope for Zambia is that we become a country where every single man, woman and child has the opportunity to enjoy a peaceful and happy life, where they can work, learn and, most importantly, for the youth of Zambia, help build on the foundations of tomorrow’s Zambia,” Mr Banda said.

The president, in saluting the ideals of the day, which commemorates the formation of the Organisation of African Unity 48 years ago, said he had worked to bring opportunity to all Zambians.

“Zambia is a role model for all of Africa, a country which, through hard work, commitment and partnership, has developed into a place in which we can all be proud,” he said.

President Banda said Zambia had made huge progress since independence, becoming a country that prized the values of freedom, security and stability for all people.

Zambia’s economy has boomed, supported by his Government’s prioritisation of health and education policies, which had helped cement the country’s position on the world stage.

“On African Freedom Day, I urge all the people of Zambia to come together, regardless of political or social preferences and celebrate the huge achievements our country has made. Our future is in your hands – we will build it together,” he said.

    • And you’re not helping.its not only the presidents promises but also how much we want it to work. These funds have been here for a while I believe, what you should be talking about is environments that allow for growth of these entreprenural ventures and pay back of loans to ensure continuity. why do you expect the gvt to do everything for you?

  1. I am sick and tired of politics. They make healines all the time why?1.Economy and economic processes are root cause of problem in every society. Because it is all about survival. In Zambia democracy we have a safety valve to express our anger, and this safety valve is media.I hate politics because in it, someone wins, and someone loses, always, everywhere, in everything. There are only two sides, and you’re on one of them whether you think you are or not. Not only is neutrality impossible, so are dialogue, ambiguity, tension, strategic appropriation, and play. A politician with moral credit in the bank can get away with telling us bad news. That is why I would rather be in the big arms of my fiance than listen to politican talk they are all liars. Thanks

  2. “Zambia is a role model for all of Africa, a country which, through hard work, commitment and partnership, has developed into a place in which we can all be proud,” he said. I doubt if any sane leadership would look up Zambia for anything.

  3. Talk is cheap! He should have been doing this from 2 years ago! RB stands no chance of winning the next elections to be held in Zambia. There is no chance anyone is going to rig either! We are now surprised by these pronouncements which are a campaign strategy to do politics on African Freedom day instead of talking about our African founding forefathers or the creation of the OAU (or AU as it is now called)!

    • Don’t be crazy! How much more could you have done. I am sure I heard of these funds a very long time ago, at least 5 years ago so the man didn’t start it, he simply making sure it all continues. You think our founding fathers wanted to see Zambia in this state?? Ask bwana KK you think this is what he envisioned, or that we should ignore the future. Freedom also comes in many different packages, have you thought of economic or financial freedom? this is the new fight and you have to join in and save others the grief of giving you free stuff.

  4. Just curious, why are most men (atleast the ones i dated in zambia, 2 of them), have frailities, and just jokes?.I found the men in zambia, to be dirty, very lazy, extremely irresponsible, addicted immitating Black American, Criminals and insensitive? Above during mt time in Zambia I was embarrased and litterally laughed at how most men there wont know how to ask me out? They would buy you things but wont say anything, the ones who said the right things are either married or pretty much old. Why? It sickens me to see so many people backwards, How can one blame me to adopt being British and wash my hands being Zambian. In doing so I have a better life, I see movies when I want to, I can afford anything, I drive an expensive car now Toyota Yaris. I have no worries whatsoever,Thanks

    • Hey dear, its poverty coz not all could afford to do that. Those who could, could not be left alone by women who think to gain from men. Where you are, as you brag, even ladies buy for men. So you were just lazy, or you where affected by the situation hence you started looking for help instead of love gift which can be as simple as a nail cutter. Equality starts with you, practice what you preach gal!

    • What are your mental and chronological ages Mushota? Tell us a bit about your background in order to help us better understand and appreciate your contributions. Are you one of those people that think that every white man is rich? We know what a life of poverty can do to the medulae oblongata.

    • Really?! I think you may be referring to a different topic altogether darling! Frankly no body cares what car you drive or when you got to the movies…Refer to the damn article.

    • Expensive car – YARIS…hehehehehehehehee You *****. a $17,000 car so what.Your just a black piece of ass the white man gets to **** once a week if he is lucky to get it up.

  5. ”Accelerating youth empowerment for sustainable development”. These are just boring empty words which are repeated over and over at every event, next it will be on 24 October, in the meantime the long suffering youths continue to grope in hopelessness.

  6. #6, you seem to be so frsutrated. I agree with you but I cant say much now.would be very happy to talk to you because you need encouragement. You are trying to vent out your frustration and I can clearly see that you need to talk to someone. Its sad you bumped into irresponsible men. My sister there are still Zambian guys who are single but good, responsible and have many of the things you expect. You need more prayers and talking to someone for encouragement. Dont be discouraged. I have come accrosss many ladies who vent out like you and have been able to chat, share their frustration and they are happy. Dont give up, rememeber you can inherit everthing else from paremts but a spouse comes from the Lord. Be strong and of good courage. Lean not on your understanding. I hope this will help

  7. Coming back to the subject RB would have impressed me more if this zeal he has now was constant from the onset. I see alot of panic and insincererity. I doubt his desprate efforts to win the favour of Zambians. i would prefer a consistent leader and unfortunately I dont see that in him.

  8. I would like to respectfully disagree with the President. Unlike he asserts, Zambia is by no means the Standard. Since Independence, we have regressed consistently inspite having had varied economic climates. The increased copper production and prices in the last year has not resulted in meaningful gain for the youth as one would expect in any nation where leadership served appropriately. Rather, it has served to enrich a few politicians and those close to them at the expense of the very youth being discussed. The transparency we call for as youth has been ignored and replaced with laws that protect those that rob us of a hopeful future. The education system is crippled, while our healthcare is sustained by foreigners.

  9. #6 Mushota is back. The fact that you always have to bring up the topic about you and your fiancée clearly shows that there is something that you are missing and cannot just come out and admit it. You cannot change who you are and no matter how hard you try you will never be Scottish and will always be considered second class citizen in this Country. Do not let us in on your frustrations and please keep your bedroom issues to yourself. Contentment in life only comes when you find your purpose in this life and grab hold of it. I think you need psychiatric help. Toyota Yaris .. Ha Ha Ha .. Why not a Rose Royce or a BMW? The lizards you ate in ZED have surely come to roost. You always make my day Haaaaaaaaa …

    • Mushota, I feel sorry about picking on you but your rantings leave me with no choice. I think you need Zambian company and you are hiding behind the facade of being British. We are here to help you if you need help.

  10. I would also like to remind the President that there is a difference between exploiting the youth and acting in their interest. One would think a man who had benefitted from an education at our very own University would understand the role that sound education plays in empowering the youth. Gone should be those UNIP days where an educated person was seen as a threat to those in power. There are those of us with a clarity that pierces through any political affiliation, tribal or sexual orientation hatred, in part thanks to a sound education that are calling for sound leadership to not ignore our calls when we seek to discuss issues affecting ‘the average Zambian’. We, the youth of Zambia have a great stake in it’s future, you Mr. President, have been standing in our way.

  11. Good afternoon

Action speaks louder than words. We are all yearning to see the bright future RB is talking about. And I hope the is also personally going around to see the real situation in the country and talking to some youths. I’m sure he would be surprised to see that most youths don’t even have the basic needs like food, clothing and shelter.

  12. The president is panickin, time is nt with him hence making fake promises. And #6 stop dissin zambian guys, if they r nt good 4 u leave them alone. Go back to yo Yaris.

  13. Beyond blogs, Zambia is dear to us patriots such that we will never pull our hearts and hands-off from her satety, growth, unity and enduring stability. We have the moral, spiritual and constitutional duty to keep protecting her from unholy hands and dreams of plunders that have a record of ruining her with their natural failure. We will never see our beloved country slide or fall again in the hands of the same callous plunders that dragged the country into an abyss of RB’s administration is tenaciously taking her out. We shudder to see a day of more useless Merzf scandals, ICASA scandals, Oil Scandals, US $10 million shooting claims scandal and all the impunity that destroyed the foundation UNIP left behind to build on our national pride.

    • Why aren’t people saying why they don’t like your post? i agree with you totally. let us try to inspire higher performance by doing so ourselves. Unfortunately I doubt this will have much effect, Zambians hate the truth, even worse, work.

  14. if your bum was clean I was going to marry you and buy you a hummer but unfortunately you have been used by several guys and the only chance is being abroad where guys don’t know your past adventures with the boys. Infact guys in your place don’t really wash themselves, they always depend on deodorants of all sorts and do all sorts of things to please a woman.I’ve been with them and I know what I,m talking about. So leave your disappointments to yourself, the guys must have left you because of your behaviour and maybe your are also dirty.

  15. YOUTHS CAN ONLY BE BETTER IF THE OLD LEAVE THE OFFICES FOR THEM… OLD POLITICIANS JUST RECYCLE THEMSELVES, HENCE, OBSTRUCTIING THEIR WAY…HOW DO U EXPECT THEM TO DO BETTER WHEN U ARE CLINGING ON TILL U FINISH THE GRZ PRGMS?

    • Did you see the word enteprenurship? Why do you want to work in GRZ we could create jobs on our own this is what the country needs!! you complain about investors, complain about the govenment, support people that had a big hand in landing Zambia where it is now (Sata)..Tell me one thing, what do you hope to achieve? give me something I can work with under your wisdom.

  16. # 6. This Mushota always put up her silly narrations to divert attention from the main subject to be discussed. Please mushota are seeking attention in a wrong way.You better get a life.

  17. ” PRESIDENT Rupiah Banda has reinforced his commitment to building a better future for all Zambians, particularly young people, by providing a stable economy and strengthening Zambia’s investment climate. ”

Except that he’s doing in a way that sells their future down the river. Not that I blame him personally, because it’s not his idea. I’m sure he hasn’t had an original thought on economics in his life.

Privatisation has led to job losses, the loss of at least $10 billion in mining profits since 2004, and according to the finance minister, the MMD policies will not make a significant dent in poverty for another 30 years.

  18. Minister Situmbeko has a math problem, by the way, today’s population is 13 million with an annual growth rate of 2.8% – in 30 years, that means Zambia will have 29.7 million people. If we have 80% unemployment today, what will unemployent be at around 30 million?

He also thinks that partially paid tax bills are the same as fully paid tax bills. Every time he is asked why the mines are barely contributing to state tax revenues, his answer is “but the mines, they are paying taxes”.

  19. All you PF Kaponyas from Matero University, where are you getting the idea that the president is panicking? And where are you getting the idea that the president has been sleeping and has just started working now.

Unless you have been living under a stone. President Rupiah Banda has executed excellently from the time he took over. What indicators are you suing to say the president has been sleeping and has not performed.

ALL and I mean ALL indicators used by the civilized world be it UN or any other credible global financial institutions, you name it,  shows that RB has been an excellent custodian of the Zambia economy. I will not list all the indicators where because there is no point you will not understand a thing.

RB has put Zambia on an upward trajectory. Join the winners.

    • ” RB has put Zambia on an upward trajectory. Join the winners.”

It is called ‘boom and bust’. There is no sustainability to this economy, and the MMD is not making sure that the economy continues after copper prices fall again.

Their policies are a matter of criminal negligence. If not outright bribery and fraud.

    • @MRK, don’t you think the people should get in on this while it lasts, to create some sort of safety net for when there is another drop in mineral prices. Support in this case is more that agreeing with the man, its more of doing stuff on our own.
On the issue of policy, whether criminal or not, it still stands. If you are given an opportunity to better ourselves why not take it? I think we are at a point in our evolution where it should be OK to cut corners becaue we are too far behind all everybody else except countries crippled by wars.

  20. I only employ MMD youths not those from the opposition because if they have money, they can give their leader Mr. Sata who wants to arrest me.
I happy Senior Citizen,Mr. Capitalist and other MMD youths in foreign mission are blogging in my favour and i have a lot of support now.gentlemen and ladies in foreign mission work hard.
I have lost Western Province to Mr.Sata so i want copperbelt to be MMD stronghold and i pump alot of money there.

  21. ” Zambia’s economy has boomed, supported by his Government’s prioritisation of health and education policies, which had helped cement the country’s position on the world stage. ”

Zambia’s GDP has boomed, however it is mainly from the mining sector, which after privatisation is now in foreign hands, as are the profits made.

The MMD’s policies have nothing to do with international copper prices, which are the result of speculation (because of deregulation) and the devalutation of major currencies, specifically the US dollar, in which commodities are trades.

Compare that to the price of gold, which went from $280/ounce in 1992 before the US Federal Reserve’s neoliberal experiment with permanently low interest rates, to over $1500/per ounce today.

  22. Zambias GDP has registered growth so now we are working towards micro-fundamentals so that the people is shangombo, chama, tendele, kashikishi can feel the trickle down effect…

  23. 27 judy,

” Zambias GDP has registered growth so now we are working towards micro-fundamentals so that the people is shangombo, chama, tendele, kashikishi can feel the trickle down effect… ”

Please connect the dots on that for me. Zambia’s mines are in foreign hands, they are barely contributing anything to national revenues, so how is the MMD ‘working towards micro-fundamentals’ to make people feel ‘the trickle down effect’?

Please educate me on how this works.

    • Trade and services to the mines, that comes right off the top of my head. Get it into your heads that we cannot mine forever,. there are several ways in which to exploit the mines themselves while they last if all you want is to make money off them.

  24. What a waste of yellow paper!! We have decided already. Paper rhetoric no food on the table. CEEC? and you require collateral of property. Which youth has bought or built a house in Zambia at the age of 25. No wonder we see foreigners on every government contract. Such a father who keeps on giving his neighbour’s children support coz they are strong and mature forgetting someone sweated for them to be who they are, not worth keeping. Playing under 14s with a National team. Perfect scenario for Zambia, second class citizens in their own country. Thats why! Change chabe all youth mubwato! We have registered in great numbers!

  25. Mr president you talked about Youth development fund and Citizen economic empowerment. just to let you know the youths in zambia do not even know about those funds, because they are white elephants. i adivise you to visity Botswana you will find well organized youth programmes such as; KIK START, YOUNG FARMERS, LEA, YOUTH GRANTS. and IPELENG. i would agree if you said we have programes for our youths such STREET VENDING, KAPONYAS,NGWANGWAZI, SHEKI SHEKI DRINKING.

  26. MMD Chief Bootlicker
Tell them that i done alot,Osma made a name for doing the opposite. Just like him i was doing the opposite and i have made a name.
1.i am the most corrupt president in the history of zambia
2.i’m the most travelled president zambia has ever had.
3.i shot more zambians in mongu, mazabuka and made so many arrests than all presidents.
    4. i legalised corruption and it wasnt easy you know.
i can go on and on. i’ve worked.

  27. Mr President this might be a hard sell for you but you still have time to change course and be seen to be a leader for Zambians. The current perception is that you are short changing the ordinary Zambian in the interest of foreigners and those close to you, this is the perception but you have the opportunity to put things right:1) Fair taxation on the mines 2) Serious fight on corruption to include a transparent tender board 3) Investment that is based on local partnership of no less than 50/% 4) Use of the LUSE as the main conduit of local investment vehicle 5) Stop the uncontrolled giving land to foreigners 6) Limit the employment of foreigners unless all the means have been exhausted to ensure no Zambian skills available 7) Medical care and education being a right for all, Then we see

  28. Action speaks louder than words. Supposing you were to remain in power you better stick to your promises. Are we clear?

  29. For a man who served in the early governments the perception is your hunger for patriotism and being for the many Zambians is not there. Prove your detractors wrong. Minimise the building of private schools because that is not symptomatic of a fair educational system, instead build more public schools with skilled teachers and the facilities for the 21st century. No politicians going to south Africa for medical care that will contribute to the confidence in our own medical care. The list is long but the ball is in your hands Mr President not to be done in a a year but you can start  espousing that as policy but needs to be something you believe in. Zambia is looking for a saviour and not just a name.

  30. “only education will help us defeat ignorance,…”, h.e.r.b at the opening of horizon school the otehr day. if your literature and source of knowledge is the post then you have a serious problem of illiteracy, i suggest that you begin to eradicate that illiteracy by reading Stand Up for Zambia newspaper by chanda chimba, it’s only 2pin but you will be much wiser about the post and what it wrote about itself and mr sata reproduced exactly in its own words.

  31. I’ll only believe your commitment when you stop driving past the STREET KIDS and stop pretend that they are not there.

  32. Bravo RB Bravo, ONE ZAMBIA,ONE NATION.
Bane the essense of patriotism is not what your government can do for you but what you can do for your COUNTRY er honestly cannot afford trivializing every single POSITIVE issue raised by the president simply it didn’t come out of Sata’s mouth. Let us try to be mature and practical about all this and realize that it is Zambia we are messing around with not who is at the helm of GRZ. Get serious

  33. Again Mushota, sounds you are not comfortable in your black skin.Be white but atleast one fact is your pussy will always be BLACK,Ati Toyota Yaris…,people own cars mwaice, not those toys you are  boasting of.Its like you have never had a decent life before.

  34. RB lier which bright future…?Your time is over Nigga.U re already caught up in your own web of lies.

  35. Just found out that Mushota’s hubby is a very old man. who can not even try sexual advances. Mushota is realy frastred, the man is supposed to be in a nursing home, but his children said Mushota should take care of the old man at home. All the time she is cleaning the hubby’s bottom. Amafi ya mukola ekusabaila oko asabaila lyonse. To make matters worse she is got no acsess to the hubby’s bank account, only his children have. She is always indoors at the country side has never been to town since she joined his wheel chair bound hubby.

  36. #38 pf government
i will promote you from foreign missions to minister because you are blogging well in my favour. four of you,b kangwa or sorry,mr capitalist, senior citizen, mmd chief bootlicker and my son. yes im working.

  37. No. 16 Senior Citizen you forgot to put in more recent scandals not caused by RB but by other juniors: Zamtel and government’s decision to sell 75 per cent shares in Zamtel to Libya’s Lap Green Network, a transaction from which RP Capital Partners would get about US $12.8 million, Out of sheer greed, RB is driving the health sector into a costly and extremely dangerous path. Facts are that these nine mobile hospitals were bought at about K252 billion. For this amount, 25 district hospitals – each with 10 staff houses – would have been constructed, fully equipped and a total of 2.5 million Zambians would have gained access to the first level referral services provided.

  38. Another initiated not by RB is the now infamous National Pensions Scheme Authority (NAPSA) US$98 million transaction with the Zambia National Building Society (ZNBS) to refurbish the latter’s Society House was scandalous, shameful and criminal.

  39. Mushota did you get permission to use the photo on this blog. Don’t take this lightly my sister if the owner of the photo finds out (and they soon will) you will be hunted and found. You will be done for stealing someone else’s identity and a lot more charges. Am not a solicitor but I think what you are doing out of naivety is wrong.
About your anger, something is wrong hear. Your probably don’t realise it but you need to seek help.
For our President RB, things seem to have gone so wrong so soon. Things just don ‘t feel right. I know we need to treat the press with a pinch of salt, but the furore is so overwhelming. There are just to many giggly bits that surround His excellency and most of these can ‘t just be ignored.

  40. #6. I like Mushota (although I don’t like what she writes) because she keeps us busy talking about her comments and briefly forget talking about politics of RB or Sikapwasha, or Sata. But what she writes is total nonsense. Mushota, you drive expensive cars which are not yours and which will take you 50 years to pay for. In Zambia we buy expensive cars on cash basis. In Zambia, we build houses on cash basis not fima mortgage you get which takes 60 years to pay for. In Zambia we are genuinely happy not that artificial happiness which you are claiming. In Zambia young women get married to young men with bright future not that 85-year old finished white man you are married to.

  41. Mushota if you keep blogging about personal and bedroom issues then you are literally putting yourself in the spotlight. The best you can do is stick to the topic at hand and we will not throw mud at you. Better still give us more  information about your situation so that we can see how we can help you. We understand that there are different reasons that make people come to this part of the world some good ones and some doggy ones.

On a more humorous note can you confirm the point raised that your fiancee is an old man. We will understand.
