Kafulafuta Member of Parliament George Mpombo has charged that the resignation of Chongwe Member of Parliament Sylvia Masebo from the MMD has confined the ruling party to the intensive care unit.
Mr. Mpombo says this is also an indication that the MMD has completely lost its ground signifying its collapse.
He says the ruling party’s failures are as a result of the blind leadership of republican president Rupiah Banda.
He says more people are likely to resign from the party anytime from now especially that the country is headed for elections.
Mr Mpombo states that the ruling party has lost ground as can be seen from its diminishing support in most provinces.
He adds that at the moment the only province that the MMD can boast of enjoying support from is the eastern province.

I said this before that in Zambia there are very few politicians who are principled and can stick to a political party and follow its ideology whether its in the ruling party or opposition. We are yet to witness alot of MPs are going to defect to the PF. Its just a matter of days before RB dissolves parliament who knows he may make the pronouncement after the trade fair. Just wait and see. Well as for Ms Masebo she had no way out coz the Party President didnt like her cpz of her support for Magande’s candidature for MMD top positionas she is claiming. Are there any strategists in MMD who could not have waited to hould Masebo from the MMD after elections. Chongwe constituency has many voters and these could have made a difference for MMD unless they are sure that they have already won.

Copperbelt Rural and Lusaka Rural is for MMD with or without Masebo and Mpombo. Southern Province is for HH but Livingstone is for the ruling party. There is NO reason whatsoever that justifies any politician who has not changed their beliefs to change a political party because of an individual, be it President or grass root member! Thes people change political parties because they are gold diggers who are looking for positions to make money and will dich the boat if they think that the prospects are dismal. The electorate MUST reject such people and elect people who are principled and stand on the same ground.
Bribing your way to parliament is not a good thing to do. Yet some candidates are busy bribing councelors for a vote. In these days of poverty they can not resist the bribe. It is happening even in opposition primary elections. We need strong parliamentary representaves to be in parly and to bring development.

The election date is not a secret. I just do not understand what the problem is in Zambia. The mandate for a Parliament is 5 years and that is 1,826 days. Elections will be called NOT beyond this period, therefore the latest the President can call elections is 1,736 days before this time.
The last election was held on 28 September 2006, and the President sworn in in January. Thus, elections will be no later than 3 months before January 2012.
October is unlikely due to Independence celebrations and early rains. So September, you have it and Parliament is dissolved 3 months before that, which is early July. Simple!

If the election date is not a secret, do I really have to start considering and figuring out the rain season, independence celebration events, what and when the 2006 election was held to figure out when the 2011 election will be held etc in order to come up with my rest of the year travel, vacation and voting schedule. Addressing a handful of MMD cadres in Chongwe on Wednesday, William Banda said the party would campaign vigorously to retain the seat.
