PRESIDENT Rupiah Banda has said claims by Patriotic Front (PF) leader Michael Sata that he does not qualify to lead Zambia because one of his parents was not a Zambian are out of fear to face him in the 2011 elections.

And President Banda has urged Zambians to vote for him and the MMD during the September 20 polls because he is not yet satisified with the level of development.

Addressing a mammoth rally at Marambanyama grounds in Chibombo yesterday, when he flagged off his campaigns following his successful filing of his nominations on Wednesday, Mr Banda challenged the PF leader to prove allegations that one of his parents was not a Zambian.

“Everybody knew that we are going to have elections this year. You remember that the Patriotic Front was crying and saying that I had delayed in announcing the elections date.

“But after I announced they went to court and said that one of my parents was not a Zambian. I want to assure the people of Zambia that both of my parents were Zambians,” President Banda said.

He said his late mother was a Zambian born in Chiparamba while his father was born in the then Fort Jameson, which is now known as Chipata.

The president said the onus was on the PF leadership to prove to the Zambian people that his parents were not Zambian.

He said he also knew some “little stories” about the PF leader but that he had not gone to court. ?”I am not a coward to try and knock him out on a technicality,” Mr Banda said.

He said while PF was bragging that it would win this year’s elections, it was looking for a way to technically knock him out. President Banda said Mr Sata should not be afraid of the elections. He urged the people of Keembe to vote for him and the MMD in this year’s elections.

He said while progress had been made, he was not satisfied with what the MMD and he had achieved so far.

“I am not satisfied with the work the MMD and I have done but we have started. We want to build more schools, health centres, and roads. You should elect us so that we can do more of the things that we have done,” he said.

Mr Banda said once re-elected into office on September 20 this year, his Government would continue to build more infrastructure for the benefit of the Zambian people.

He said the MMD Government would also continue to grow the economy and creating more employment opportunities for the youth.

Mr Banda said his Government would also continue to provide incentives for farmers through the Farmer Input Support Programme to ensure food security.

He assured the farmers that the Government would buy their maize and other crops.

“Even this season we have begun buying your crops. There may be some hiccups but we are determined to mop up all the crops because we want our farmers to prepare before the next farming season,” he said.

He thanked the people of Chibombo for supporting him during the 2008 elections.

He said he had decided to start his campaign in Chibombo where late president Levy Mwanawasa, who appointed him as vice-president, came from.

And speaking at the same rally, former Information and Broadcasting Services minister and MMD Keembe parliamentary candidate Ronnie Shikapwasha urged the people of Chibombo to support the candidature of President Banda.

Lieutenant General Shikapwasha said Dr Mwanawasa managed to win elections in Eastern Province because of the support he received from President Banda.

He said of all the presidential candidates in this year’s elections, Mr Banda was the best.

Former Republican vice-president Enoch Kavindele said the Zambian people should vote for Mr Banda because of the high level of development projects he had undertaken in the three years he had been in office.

Mr Kavindele said Zambia had experienced unprecedented levels of development under President Banda.

United Liberal Party leader Sakwiba Sikota said the people of Keembe should not vote for Mr Sata who he said had insulted their son, Dr Mwanawasa.

Veteran politician Vernon Mwaanga also urged the people of Keembe to vote for President Banda.

MMD national trustee Grace Njapau urged the women to come out in large numbers and vote for the MMD and President Banda.

During the same rally, former PF aspiring candidate for Luanshya Gillian Mporokoso Jere resigned from the opposition party.

She said Zambians should not make a mistake of voting for Mr Sata because he had no good leadership qualities.

Meanwhile, the Kulamba Kubwalo Lenje Royal Establishment comprising all the seven chiefs of the Lenje-speaking people of Central Province have resolved to support President Banda and the MMD in the elections.

Chairperson Boniface Luswanga said in an interview in Chibombo yesterday that the chiefs resolved to support President Banda because of the various development projects his administration had undertaken in the area.

  1. Mr President sure, even after we tolerate you and your minions to rule this nation, please do not us for granted. I am an ardent supporter of the MMD but you are now confusing me. Did you not a few days ago say your father migrated to southern Rhodesia and married a Shona woman and you were born in a hut somewhere in Zimbabwe? We debated on this forum that you qualify to stand for presidency only because people who were in Zambia on the eve of independence became Zambians. Esteemed bloggers help me reconcile these issues maybe

    • RB thinks the real ZAMBIANS are fools who dont think. Only in Zambia can a foreigner insult the indigenous people and get away with it.

  2. rupiah is an impostor

that crook and his gang plunder Zed

read “Debunking the Government’s case for low mining taxation ” on zambian economist (Monthly Essay) and you will understand that corrupt regime is a swinddle

future PF Mines and minerals Minister Simuusa and future PF finance Minister Bob Sichinga are going to a make a clean sweep ! :-)

and thus the Zambian People will really benefit from copper and mineral wealth

    the Change is unstoppable !

  3. The MMD charlatans must be kicked out !

    Musokotwane is an economic crook
collusion with foreign companies : windfall taxes scrapped, low minerals taxes, transfer pricing / tax heavens
Rupiah and Mwale who prevent zccm from recovering $400 million from kansanshi mining and have declined to investigate Mopani’s tax affairs despite calls from development charities and thus State and zccm are despoiled
Mopani Copper Mines plc is majority owned by Carlisa Investments Corporation, which is incorporated in the British Virgin Islands. Carlisa Investments Corporation is jointly owned by Glencore Finance (Bermuda) Limited (81.2%), a wholly owned subsidiary of Glencore International AG; and Skyblue Enterprise Incorporated (18.8%), a wholly owned subsidiary of FQM

  4. At 1 I also read something that on this blog and really the debate was heated. However, when i went to the ZWD website, it was reported that his father after working in Zimbabwe decided to go back to the then Northern Rhodesia (Zambia) to marry and took his wife (the mother to RB) to Zimbabwe with him. I think it was a problem of reporting on the part of our journalists.

  5. continued

    (the parent of Kansanshi)
copper from Mopani is sold under a contract with copper in one instance being sold at 25 per cent of official prices at LME. In other words, they are not paying taxes over 75% of the copper sold to Glencore.
And Muso the crook needs to borrow money to make ends meet

those crooks line their pockets while 70 percent of Zambians live on less than $1 per day !

enough hot air, enough MMD propaganda, brainwashing and lies

  6. The Law is the Law
Banda must respect the Constitution !!

    There are bad laws ?!
Instead of removing the abuse of office clause from the ACC Act they could have changed it !!
    but crooks are crooks
they preferred to line their pockets and protect themselves

  7. Some people would agree and accept if Robert Mugabe was to claim he is Zambian and become President just to keep there jobs and businesses running that’s how selfish as Zambians are.

  8. As usual, all PF can do is lie, lie… and speculation after speculation. Most of the lies advanced by the PF, Sata and the Post can not be substanciated. The people of Zambia must not be cheated, you have seen things happening with your own two eyes, don’t fall for lies and promises that will never materialise.

  9. No 1.

Early life and diplomacy. Banda was born in the town of Miko, Gwanda, Southern Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe); his parents had come from Northern Rhodesia to find employment prior to his birth, and he was sponsored by a local Dutch Reformed Church preacher (and later, the family of B. R. Naik) to continue his education into adulthood.” Source: WIKIPEDIA
I am persuaded by the Wikipedia version of this saga and that Mr. Sata was merely being mischievious, in desperation.

It is difficult to prove otherwise.

One has to give him the benefit of doubt.

  10. RB thinks the real ZAMBIANS are fools who dont think. Only in Zambia can a foreigner insult the indigenous people and get away with it. WAKE ZAMBIANS. RB said it himself that his mother was a SHONA

  11. RB thinks the real ZAMBIANS are fools who dont think. Only in Zambia can a foreigner insult the indigenous people and get away with it. WAKE UP ZAMBIANS. RB said it himself that his mother was a SHONA

  12. As things stand now, i dont care who rules whether zimbambwean, Malawian zairean/congolese whatever, the bottom line is, in Zambia we dont have leaders,so if Zimbambwe or malawi decides to give us a president, let it be so long there is peace.

  13. People!People! I have good news. Please on 20 September 2011 get your voters card and your NRC. When you are in the booth ask yourself a question…. Do i want change? if yes then vote for HH. If no… please vote for MMD for continuity. I for one want change and am voting for HH period.

  14. The list is out imwe…PF LIST..CONGRATS…THIS IS A WINNING TEAM WHETHER U LIKE IT OR NOT……PABWATO…IN THE MWAMUKOLO………..

  15. #13

    Walasa,

Vote HH is the same to vote RB
HH has no chance to win elections
Only sata is able to kick out those thieves

    Its simple !!
    You have 2 choices
You want change : vote sata
You want MMD continues to lead and plunder Zambia : vote RB or HH

  16. ba PF YABANYOKOLA NJALA MANJE…………THIS TIME IN THE RING, THE PF WILL B GIVEN A TKO IN THE FOURTH ROUND, I MEAN THE FOURTH ELECTIONS SATA HAS BEEN SWIPPED

  17. Why can’t the president keep quiet on the issue of his eligibility to lead the country? Every time he opens his mouth on the topic he tends to have forgotten what he had said previously and thus contradicts himself, is it a problem with dementia?

  18. RB is a Zambian, if RB were not a Zambian and SATA knew about it then SATA is to blame for the mess.
The owner, RB, all he knows is that his parents were Zambians and if SATA knows something else, then he should tell the people of Zambia with evidence, proving that RB’s parents were not Zambians.
Mere talk and unsubstantiated claims is being frivolous and immature politicking and immoral for SATA and his PF.
We dont want to be decieved by cheap politics. If what RB believes, that his parents are Zambians, is wrong as SATA’s claims then it is SATA’s duty to educate RB on the matter and inform and prove to the Zambians. Otherwise, we are not interested in the his petty and frivolous behaviour. When asked about the matter all he talks about is “Rupian was chief mourner at a funeral”.

  19. RB tell Sata that we are retiring him this year..why shud he be so scared such that he even ends up going to court over issues he has no evidence over..shame PF shame!

  20. sata taking RB to court just showed us how much his afraid of loosin…but watever the case he lost as usal come 2011 the mmd will win again

  21. l never heard of Dr Kaunda going to Malawi to visit his Grandparents grave or Dr Chiluba going to Congo, but look at RB, his first official trip was to go and cry over some grave in Zimbabwe and went publicly annoucing ton the whole world this is where l born. You give them an inch ,the take a mile, , Chase those crazy baldheads out of our land.

  22. Reading through all the 26 posts, I can safely say Zambians are not docile people but a bunch of hopeless and unfocused people who do not have the interest of their nation at heart. They trivialize important issues and make comedy out of them. They do not think about the future of their children and their childrens children, No wonder a foreigner can rule and insult them in broad day light. Will these people ever woke up from this type of stupidity?,

  23. The defeatist attitude you embrace will take you nowhere but to the dustbins of History.Anyway, you are right since you are convinced that PF come rain, come sunshine can never win an election

  24. Dont make up lies you guyz. Banda visited a grave of someone who sponsored him to school. He said that and pointed to a tree he liked to climb. Whatever happened to his parents. Must have had a rough time. Banda’s parents are zambian. Have you ever heard of a thing called vetting? That will explain to you why some people never went far in politics despite being brilliant. In kaunda you never went far with unsatisfactory vetting.
