The funeral service of former Mongu Diocese Bishop Paul Duffy is underway in Mongu.
Hundreds of Mongu residents Monday gathered at Mongu Stadium, where a church service for the late Bishop Duffy was conducted.
Vice president George Kunda was among the mourners who attended the church service.
Speaking at the church service, Mr. Kunda said the death of Bishop Duffy should give room for the people of Western province to forget past differences and forgive one another in order to move the country forward.
Mr. Kunda says that Bishop Duffy was a courageous man who often met with President Rupiah Banda and the late President Levy Mwanawasa to dialogue on many issues affecting the people of Western province.
And Zambia Episcopal Conference President, Ignatius Chama, has thanked government and Mr. Kunda for the support rendered to the Catholic Church during the funeral of Bishop Duffy.
Among the people attending the funeral are Heritage Party President Brigadier General Godfrey Miyanda, Alliance for Democracy and Development president, Charles Milupi, Patriotic front leader Micheal Sata and UPND Vice president, Francis Simenda.
Mr. Kunda and other mourners are at the cathedral of our lady of lourdes where Bishop Paul Duffy will be buried.

That was a good comment from Veep George Kunda and Ignatius Chama for acknowledge govt assistance.
Rest in eternal peace, man of the people!
Sure Kaleza
Ba George, you threatened to kill this man of God and when he spoke the truth and sided with the down-trodden, you accused him of being biased. When you differ with someone whose on the side of the truth, that makes you a liar or doer of injustice. When you praised FTJ at his burial it made sense coz he was one of you, you can’t praise the Bishop today because he had nothing in common with you, hypocrites!!
Is it true that the republican Vice President was badly booed? I am in Lusaka
It’s okay!!! Pa nthawi ya maliro sikufunika kusontana-sontana vikumo. Let’s bury our differences and move the country forward. Not iyai!!! Mwakuti-Mwakuti!!! Mwakuti-Mwakuti!!!!! No!!!! walesha wa leya!!!!!!
This silly Kunda, even fa sililo sure he is not ashamed of issuing coded statements! Ona munna yo kubonahala kuli na pongolezwi ki mucembele mumbulu wa muloi.
WE WILL MISS U US THE POOR,REST IN PEACE TILL WE MEET
for people who can think with their heads on this forum, notice the semantics hidden in this statement by George:
Mr. Kunda said the death of Bishop Duffy should give room for the people of Western province to forget past differences and forgive one another in order to move the country forward.
@9 well spoken,,,,,.
Mr Kunda should have said the death of Bishop Duffy should give room for the people of Western province to forget “our” past differences and………… May the soul of the Bishop Rest In PeaceÂ
How true is the statement: ‘Mr. Kunda says that Bishop Duffy was a courageous man who often met with President Rupiah Banda and the late President Levy Mwanawasa to dialogue on many issues affecting the people of Western province.’
Yes indeed the Bishop was courageous in speaking for the people of WP but I have problems with the truth in the rest
Rest in Internal Peace Bishop Francis Duff, you ran your race well and finished it, what remains is for others to judge….till we meet again
MMD threatened Archbishop Duffy and the message from kunda is condescendingly full of political expedience.
It has hidden message of vote solicitation under the guise of forgiving one other.
Govt must have just apologized for threatening Duffy and killing the innocent people of Western Province who Duffy defended and advocated for.
Ba kapoli ba MMD muleya uno mwaka
If Sata was a good leader he would have already transformed Zambia into a developed or developing country by now. He was third in command. He had enough power to influence the policies of MMD govt. He did a few nice things when he was in lower parts of government and that tells me that Sata is more effective when he is being led by another leader. He is a follower not a leader. If HH had held the same positions that Sata held for 47 years, Zambia would have been as developed as Botswana and Namibia. Lusaka would have been as clean as Gabrone and Windhoek. HH has lived in England before and that tells me his vision for Zambia is far brighter than that of Sata. It was when Sata was in power that Lumumba rd became the dirtiest road in the whole world. I sware! Vote wisely, Vote HH…..
Wait a minute what is Kunda saying….sounds to me like he is saying if Duffy was still alive there couldnt be any room for peace and moving forward! His Kunda dancing on the Bishop’s fresh grave? Abormination wo
May his soul rest in peace.
kunda is a hypocrite….. its typical of him he changes colours & says what suites him…… we shall see come 20 Sept.
CHWE CHWE CHWE CHWE CHWE CHWE CHWE CHWE CHWE CHWE CHWE CHWE
WELL SPOKEN VEEP. WELL SPOKEN BISHOP CHAMA. ABASHI CULTIST FRANK BWALYA THE CHICKEN STRANGLER. ABASH THE POOR FINISHERS WITH THEIR DRACONIAN CONSTITUTION WHICH PROMOTES THE PARTY AND ITS GOVERNMENT
It is possible that representation by most political parties at Paul Duffy’s funeral was geared to ganner support from the people of Mongu. The most prominent forces in that region are UPND, MMD and Milupi’s party. Sata discovered that the ponds from which he hoped to fish some votes was dry in Mongu. It is not Sata’s nature to attend funerals. Any votes that Sata hoped to capture in Mongu were actually snatched by Milupi. UPND and MMD are assured of their natural pool of supporters.
And what did Mr Sata say?
#19 I am told that Mr Sata said that he would raise the late Bishop from the dead  90 days after being elected.
@14, 18, 19 and 20, are you guys using your brains or its just the hatred that you have against our in coming President Sata? You even have the audacity to say hh lived in the U.K and that makes him to have a vision? Alas, so if under 5z are taken to gud clinics, how cud they be able to develop kanyama when they were not taken to such places? WaaaaRUuuuuZa iwe. Leave Sata atekeko twanaka nenu bamambala nemisango yenu bamushibila nsala imwe. Which of the oppoztion leaders have been accorded a thunderous welcome apart from ba Sata? Mulebako practical nefyo mulelemba.
Kunda , lies after lies – How many times did Duffy meet with RBish??? Was Duffy allowed anywhere near RBish by people like Shika fimofimo & Sillier???
THE MOST OBVIOUS THING THAT IS NOTICEABLE IS THAT RBishs HATE FOR WESTERN PROVINCE SINCE THE BA64 ISSUE, HAS KEPT HIM FROM STEPPING FOOT THERE, EVEN DURING THIS MOMENT OF SORROW – he couldn’t avoid going to the mass in Lsk. IT SEEMS HE HAS NO HEART TO FORGIVE!! YET HE WANTS TO PRESIDE OVER THE PEOPLE OF ZED – NO, only someone humble enough, one who shares the peoples suffering, can BE A TRUE SERVANT OF THE PEOPLE!! Viva PF, via MWAMUKOLO,Viva PABWATO, PAAAAAMMAKKAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!
The Lozi people cannot be fooled by Sata. They will vote for HH & UPND. Milupi and MMD will also get votes from them. Sata once asked Chiluba to demote the Litunga, the most respected King west of the Kafue River. Ma Lozi, lets send Sata back to Bisa land or Tanzania or wherever he comes from. This year is for HH. Re-unite with your Tonga allies. Vote Wisely, Vote HH & Shame the devil this year.
# 12, is it “Internal”, “External” or indeed “Eternal”……..???? Please check your English once again!!!!
………and please, let’s NOT use funeral gatherings as fora for political campaigns. The dead must be respected. Remember, God is watching. It seems to me that the leaders need to be led, for they have lost direction and behave as drunken lots.
ADVICE :The people of Western Province shud be very careful how they vote on 20 Sept. They shud not vote with anger and emotions but they shud reflect what would happen to them after 20 Sept.If they vote for opposition and the MMD wins this means saying good bye to development there. An example is Luena constituency in opposition since 2001.Nothing is happening there. At least in Nalikwanda there is now a high school. We need a high school in Ushaa. There is also a high school at Nagweshi.Electricity power is being taken to Sikongo. Many health centres have been constructed in Liuwa consitituency.Mongu central shud not go to the oposition let us vote wisely. The intervention of the police in Mongu was brought by President Banda but it was after a request from BRE to stop the meeting in Limulunga.
President Banda was not part of the vialence in Mongu. He is very inocennt and i can asure the people there that the mistake was created by the police while on duty but we shud reconcile to what happened.Death can happen any where at any time.5 years is too much to belong to the oposition.Let us emulate the Tongas who have now changed to support the MMD.Namikupa Mulimu amituse amusweli kunahana mwa kubotela la 20 Sep.
RIP we in the MMD will greatly miss u especially that our victory is certain.Farewell and goodnite.
#26 GILBERT LUBINDA – You speak like a leader and I think we need more like you in western province. The province needs mature and sober-minded people like you.
#24 BRICKLAYER – The problem is that Sata this time has made some inroads into western province because of what happened in January. this is so ironic because Sata has actually lost support in some of his traditional strongholds. Western province could have been for HH and UPND and has always been until you Tongas fuc.ked up in the way you chased your Lozi cousins out of UPND – like dogs. From that point HH and UPND cannot say anything that will make Lozis trust him. It will be interesting to see what happens when the 50+1 starts after this year’s elections. Every province will seek to hold on to its own and start making deals… we are heading into coalition governments – which will be interesting although potentially dangerous.
Bo Gilbert Lubinda u r a man and true Lozi and u care for your pipo i hope they have listened.
VP Kunda is right. Duffy was confusing and misleading people in that area. Good riddance!!
