Magande describes voting as overwhelming, discourages violence

Share

Former Minister of Finance & National Planning N'gandu Magande

National Movement for party (NMP) Ngandu Magande has said the voting process so far is overwhelming.

Mr. Magande said there is no need to fight over simple mistakes that have so far occurred in Kanyama and Vera Chiluba polling stations.

ZANIS reports that he said voters do not need to fight over such irregularities but to dialogue.

And Mr. Magande has noted that the presence of election monitors in the country is a clear indication that the world is a global village.

He commended the foreign election observers for their contribution on how to handle conflict management.

Mr. Magande advised that possible conflict post election should not be resolved with violence but dialogue and partnership.

He said this when he addressed journalists this afternoon at Vera Chiluba polling station in Mtendere where he accompanied his party’s Munali aspiring candidate Andrew Masiye to cast his vote.

And Mr. Masiye urged the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) to immediately act on all irregularities that have occurred so far during the electoral process saying by so doing it would enable voters to have confidence in the election results.

He said he was optimistic that the elections would be free and fair.

Voting is currently taking place in the country with the electorate voting for their preferred presidential, parliamentary and local government candidates. The country recorded a total of 5,167,154 registered voters. Voting is expected to end at 18 hours (6 pm) but polling stations that delayed to open will have an extension.

  1. Mr did you think that people will be fighting to vote for you? Zambians a mature people. A lot of you guys are retiring this year. We are getting rid of politics of insults once and for good. From Cobra to yourself. Lets the games continue

  2. Magande with due respect, you are just a spoiler in this election. Who has voted for you? Bushe ama panga yalafuma inshitanshi?

  3. Where are the other presidential contenders? Teti nabo balanda po kamo? Nawakwi, HH, Miyanda, Chipimo Jr, Milupi, Mutesa!

Bushe chishinka ati imfumu ku Luapula ibutukile ku Congo? Eh! Fyalula ifintu pa Zed!

  4. Sata’s vehicle was stoned in mtendere according to radio phoenix news; I thot he was popular in all compounds! there will be shock for over-confident PF carders

  5. Mr Magande, nice that you have seen the light. You thought you would mislead people…those are nice words from a sober person who has seen the reality.

  6. What simple mistakes that occured at Vera chiluba polling station…The form 3 Journalists we have in zambia are a let down….Magande is now applying for a Job…How do you tell people to calm down when everything is ok…If you want fools to fight tell one of them to calm down even when it is not necessary. The fool will fight the other fool so that he shows him that he cant be calmed down.

  7. 9 useless comments! At-least he is doing something for mother Zambia than just sitting on your lazy ass computers writing foolishness. Why don’t you leave the diaspora and make change in Zambia for once than condemning people who you cant even be at the level with either in ambition and career wise.

  8. No 11, Dont be foolish. Unfortunately you do not realize that he is the best finance minister Zambia ever had. With him the country achieved HIPC, because of this we now have debt relief and low-interest loans. The kwacha was trading at K5000 when he came in, as minister he brought it down to K2800. Under RB it is back now trading at K5080. Give credit where its due. If Mwanawasa saw his capability and appointed him Minister, if the ACP an organization with 72 European, Pacific and African countries appointed him Secretary General, who are you to even say he is just a loud mouth. You list down what you have ever done for Zambia and I dont mean sending western union for your relatives, or sending a box of salaula to Zambia, list them here, only then are you qualified to disrespect anyone.

  9. He has said time and time again he decided to give back to the country. You think after working for an international organization he is lacking money, this is not about a job. You think people that have money to campaign are looking for jobs. What thinking! I asked you to list down what you have done for Zambia. I was expecting you to come back and write you built a school, okay maybe that is too far fetched for you, you couldnt even come back and write as an engineer you have a patent under your name, instead you come back with insults and unnecessary laughter. Lets ask the question again who is the loud mouth- You. Don’t just talk because you have a mouth! I do not know who taught uneducated people that insults show intelligence.

  10. No 16

What is he going to give back to Zambia with a one man political party.. i will bet you my pay he will be looking for a job very soon after people have eaten is money after the campaign is finished. Time will tell we have seen such people in Zambia i can give you a long list…

    Dr Chongwe…
    etc

  11. You are all talking ill of Mr Magande, don’t worry Magande might not win but RB is out of power and so will the Chinese and that is all that matters… run for your life RB, you and your crooked sons because we will treat you like Saddam and his sons… Ude and Kuse because you are all crooks…

  12. To the one calling himself or herself “engineer,” from my experience in life I know that when one chooses to use pen names such as “Engineer and Doctor” they are actually a l-o-o-s-e-r with a capital L that has achieved nothing in their lives and therefore cannot write anything constructive about anyone else. I bet you are in the States illegally cleaning someone’s toilet… and so all you can do is try to make fun of others. Big shot, since you claim to be an engineer why don’t you post your Degree on LT and it better not be from a trade school. Download Mr. Magande’s resume from his website and see what the man has achieved in his life. Put up or shut up…

  13. From the comments it is clear that you youngsters have no respect for your elders, and hence the reason that Zambia will forever be playing catch-up. You all are in the white man’s country cleaning his toilet and still you herald insults against your elders at home trying to make a difference… Since you all claim to have so many ideas why don’t you go home and do something rather criticize those trying to make a difference. The sad thing is you are the same hypocrites I see in Zambia begging for work when you get deported…

  14. Rasta who in your family was cleaning toilets for whites? You think all of us out side Zambia clean toilets, shame.sleep on man do what you know best.we are at uni and doing well mate stop being jealous our era is not got such.

  15. Well, let us wait and see. In 2006 the PF raffians roamed Lusaka using all manner of transport with some of them carrying a coffin with a big cabbage on it signifying the political death of Mwanawasa. But as the day progressed the mood in the PF camp dwindled as MMD was catching quickly …..And Sata exhibited clear schizophrenia. Just like yesterday when he was insultng Mumbi, the former PF secretary general. And that is the character some ‘ like him’ Zambians want for president. If Sata becomes president, this will not only bring embarrassment to Zambia, it will also display how naive, nay, foolish and stupid some zambians are. And I will be sorry for ourselves because no country will regard us seriuosly.

  16. Yesterday’s unbecoming behaviour exhibited by Sata clearly shows how desparate he is to become president of zambia. I hear this man had hired a copter to fly around on a promisary note promissing to settle the dedbt after winning the elections………I can promise you zambians that lucky does not favour most wegers…..I doubt if sata will ever pay that money. I do not of course support him. But if he wins I will be hopeful that there will be money in my pocket…within three days of innoguration.

  17. And then Will wait for Faza walya’s wedding day……I am told he will be locked up in the bed room with the bride and will keep a camber in their without emptying,,,,,

  18. And then Will wait for Faza walya’s wedding day……I am told he will be locked up in the bed room with the bride and will keep a camber in their without emptying.

  19. At one poling stationin the MMD candidate former mines minister scored about eight hundred votes against Waza Kaunda’s one hundred and something.looks favourable for MMD there. this no joke.

  20. Michaelme, I know all of you clean toilets because I have 3 working for me right now, why should I be jealous over someone that cleans my toilet? Like I said put up or shut up…. If you are all doing so well post the Degrees that’s all I ask, simple and straight… to answer your question, my family is the whites that you have been begging for food and money all your pathetic lives…
