Workers locked in a garage for 4 days

Share

Four workers in Lusaka west have spent four days and nights in a garage in Lusaka west after their boss locked them up and went for hunting.

A check at the farmhouse which is located in Lusaka west Kasupe area found scores of residents keeping vigil at the place.

Davison Zulu, who is one of the four workers locked inside the garage, told MUVI TV News that he has spent four days and nights in the garage because his employer went away with the keys.

Police officers, fire brigade and health workers who rushed to the scene could not do anything as the workers pleaded them that they be left alone.

According to the workers, their employer locks them up every time he goes in the bush to hunt animals

  1. I’m happy with the new wave of change in Zambia. What does this got to do with Rupia Banda or MMD? If it is illegal isn’t it a police issue? Why did the workers refuse to be rescued? That by itself suggests they are ok with this abuse which is sad. If it is the illegal, do the workers have a choice in the fire department breaking the lock?
A case like this should not be dealt with at the presidential level.

  2. @Smoothcriminal…. I agree the news is incomplete . . . . .Sounds creepy  . . . . .locked in . . . ..gone hunting . . . . don’t rescue us – leave us alone…..hmm

  3. Is this true? If its true why did the officers who went there leave without saving the workers despite their pleading of not to break the locks? I cannot understand this. We should not be alfred of loosing our income and preffer to suffer, no!

  4. The blame should be on the cops and the useless fire people koz its their duty to rescue and not to allow the victim to have a say.

  5. Break out !!!
wtf are you waiting for? Sata?
H.E is too busy for that….
Zedians, lets be proactive. We need to take action ourselves! Sometimes we just let these so called investors take advantage of us.
I hope the police hunt this chap down!

  6. When Black Mamba ruled this country, this kind of abuse of the locals was not condoned! This treatment of locals resulted in the culprit being given 24 hours to leave the country!! This should be the way to treat these racists who take advantage of our hospitality. Kick them out or throw them across the Zambezi so good old Bob can sort them out – if you are not men enough here!!

  7. Just heard another version on qfmzambia as reported by Muvitv – two workers cum security guards had agreed to be locked in by their employer who has gone hunting. Goes on to suggest that it was a week or so . . . .Poor reporting. Don’t even have facts before they report.  But anyway these two they realise after they’ve been locked that there were no basic facilites – toilet, water and I suspect food so they call out for help something like that. That’s how they are discovered. Inhuman treatment.

  8. For those doubting, sadly this story is true and it was on MUVI TV. QFM Radio have confirmed it happened.

This is what we have reduced ourselves to. Don`t get me wrong, this has been going on for sometime. Apparently this boss left them with news papers on which they could sh!!!t

My concern is those Fire Brigade, Health Workers and Police who went there and decided to leave without doing anything. If I was the president, I would kick this employer out (he is a foreigner apparently) and black list those Police men, Fire Brigade and Health Workers. Where is this country going mwebantu?

There was an out cry from LT, ZWD and some silly opposition when H.E MCS talked about investors respecting our people. Where is MMD Bootlicker and Mr Capitalist?

  9. The workers are to Blame!!!!! I understand that people are poor and they will do anything to get Cash but THIS IS TO FAR, if we Zambians can not defend ourselvs then who will defend us Foolish *****s.

  10. Well thats cruel for sure if its true, the question is,why leave them instead of helping them, someone is not telling the truth.please lets have facts.

  11. Turns out if boma says anything, they will be “scaring away the investors”. I say its time we did away with such sh!t. Any one who misbehaves must face punitive measures regardless of who they are. And seeing the clip on Muvi tv news this morning, i was disturbed to hear one of the locked up workers actually pleading to the “rescue team” to let them be coz he feared reprisals once the boss returned

  12. These are lazy workers who want to go to drink tujilijili when the boss is away. There must be a reason why this boss locked these workers and MUVI TV is not telling. The RB mentality must be weeded out by locking up and weeping lazy Zambians.

  13. those saying RB is responsible are *****s to start with. the two workers are foolish for not reporting this matter. do u need Sata to go from yard to yard checking if garden boys are treated well? i commend the police for not freeing them, those workers are very stupid, an embarassment to the nation, are you slave? if not why do you want to act like slaves then?

  14. Lusaka Times, this a scoop story of the day. Do some investigative joirnalism – find out name, backgrounf of this employer. Expose him totally.

The employers are requesting that they be left alone because they obviously fear losing their jobs. How will they feed their families after they are fired and the cameras move in to the new story? They are just being rational.

  15. From this incomplete story, it seems the workers enjoy being locked in the garage. How could they ask Police and Fire brigade to “leave them alone”.

  16. RB IS NOT TO BLAME, HE IS NOT THE PRESIDENT, IT IS SATA’S ISSUE NOW BECAUSE IF THE BUSINESS MAN DID THIS COZ IT WAS RB IN POWER HE SHOULD HAVE STOPPED WHEN RB LEFT OFFICE, HE CONTINUED COZ HE DOES NOT FEAR MR SATA. THE WORKERS ARE TO BLAME COZ THEY KEPT QUIET FOR FEAR OF LOSING THEIR JOBS AND NOW THAT IT BEEN REVEALED THEY WILL BE FIRED. ITS CRIMINAL TO LOCK PEOPLE IN A WORK PLACE FOR ANY REASON,THE MAN SHOULD BE PUNISHED SEVERELY SO THAT HE CAN BE AN EXAMPLE TO OTHER WITH SIMILARITY CONDUCT.

  17. What I find amusing is that we think we should be handed toilet paper after we have used the toilet too! While I condemn this behavior by the hunter (gatherer) employer I believe we as individuals give away too much of our power and dignity in the name of survival. It is painful to imagine that one can willingly allow another to withdraw freedom by being locked up at a premises of work! So lets change our attitudes and start addressing our humanity head on! Being fired for standing up will not kill you.

  18. How foolish can Zambians be! These are people who are abused for being poor. I can not believe people would say they are to blame because they enjoy it or they go to drink utujirijiri.

Have you “yidos” got a conscious? Would an African do that in other countries and get away with it? Typical African thinking-all is well with me so why bother? Jesus very soon you mugs will be supporting slavery!

Kick the yido out Mr President.

  19. @Kalok. There are situations where the country`s guide lines/laws have to over rule everything. Otherwise we should have a situation where a parent decides to kill their child after all they are a parent.

There are situations where the country has to step in to defend the defenceless. These are people abused because they do not know their rights are they are scared they will lose their job. Just because you have employed someone doesn`t mean you have every right to buse them.

  20. THE FOUR PIPO WHO WERE LOCKED UP BY THEIR BOSSES WHO WENT HUNTING SHOULD BE PROSECUTED FOR TREATING HIS WORKERS LIKE ANIMALS,MAN,HE LOCKS UP HUMAN BEINGS,DOES NOT PROVIDE SHELTER WERE TO SLEEP.NO FOOD,NO ACCESS TO TOLIET FACILITIES.THESE BUGGERS(THEIR BOSSES) DO THEY THINK WE AFRICANS ARE ANIMALS.THEY NEED TO BE DEPORTED TO THEIR COUNTRY.IDOTS

  21. poverty is bad!!! this is what we get having plundered resources mwe bantu!!!
thses guys have accepted to be mistrated like this beause they know nothing better ba immigration should be sorted out by Sata!!!

  22. Listen if they consented to be locked that is their right – but the dull fools did not stop to consider the consequences if their boss got eaten by lion whilst hunting

  23. I conquer wit #2,the NEWS is incomplete, but nevertheless the chaps who were locked up are *****ic dandaheads,i mean how do u agree to be locked up for sure, and the statement they released is a past continuous tense,”he has been locking us up” bullshit. Why didn’t they report?

  24. These are dull naive people mwebantu. I am now wondering how intelligent you guys are. Any one seen a film where a white man says it is expensive for me to find you a uniform than employing another nigger who is willing to work with out one?

Yet you tools are agreeing with that. Won`t be long before we are back to slavery. You watch!

  25. It doesn`t matter whether these guys reported this or not. The government has to come in and sort things out. Yes chances are they would lose their job but what is important is this mug employer should be certain to be kicked out of the country. I hope H.E MCS does something about it.

  26. there is serious speculation here and this story is not accurate i happen to reside next to this farm and the man is a close friend …ask yourselves why these workers are pleading to be left alone and not rescued..

    • OK maybe you are right but were they all men? in that case HOMOs!!!! or was it men and women? in that case its all cool

  27. i think the workers must be arrested cos they are portraying a bad precedence for not accepting to be rescued. really where on earth would some one accept apartheid type of treatment to be brought to Zambia, these guys are a disgrace to the Zambian society. when the employer comes, he should fire all of them without pension

  28. #40 PUSSY TERMINATOR – I’m also suspicious. Why do they allow themselves to be locked up in a garage? It is their own problem. The other thing I should mention here is that there are very few countries I have been to where workers steal as much as workers in Zambia do. Zambians steal on the job so much that you can’t leave a worker alone on the job before you discover something missing. There is so much stealing going on that I have never seen in many countries, may be apart from Nigeria and Kenya. That is why employers will never trust employees. And with stealing in Zambia even so-called educated professional employees you will find them stealing routinely as if it is just normal behaviour. So it is our fault as Zambians. Ifd you don’t change, employers will continue mistreating you.

  29. @Gokigo na chi Pushi tombinator. So you mugs are agreeing to your relatives being locked up? Mafi yenu ba kolwe. Ba mwisa imwe! Mule chimona.

If you thought your relative would get away with it, H.E MCS has said it will be investigated by the Police. Kuyabebele ba kabwa imwe!

  30. Those blaming MMD for this need to have their heads examined. These people have been locked up for four days. The PF government has been in power for longer than four days and therefore this happened during their watch. Inspite of the expose of this mistreatment the PF labor minister has done nothing. Stop blaming everything on MMD and start asking what changes have PF made so far?

  31. The fact that these locked up workers pleaded not to be released simply means that they have been chronically abused and for them being locked up is actually doing them a favour. They need urgent support and councelling and the abuser needs very urgent deportation. Martin Malama, where are you?

And yes, the details of this story are incomplete. Why is the race or origins of the chronic abuser a secret? The mother f#@@#***r should be arrested, quickly put through the courts and accordingly deported so that all Choncholies and similar infestors dread to abuse Zambians. It is totally unacceptable to be abused in ones own country. This is why we made Ala Bee kiss the dust so that Zambians are respected.

  32. The victims in this case cannot be blamed as they are suffering from a serious psychotic disorder or sydrome. After the tormentor is prosecuted, these employees must be sent for counselling and re-socialisation, so that they can recognise an infringement rather than accept it as normal. The employer involved only deserve ridicule from us the Zambians and our expectation is for him to be deported as a deterrent for other such like minded. WE in the PF will not allow this kind of abuse of our citizens!

  33. those bloody workers should have been rescued, lock the place and let it be guarded by armed policemen.when the owner, the bloody indian comes, then you lock him up and deport him.

  34. But why did they refuse to be rescued? Why does he lock them up evry time he goes hunting? This story is not adding up.Damn have got to read it again.

  35. Whats the point of these workers letting pipo know that they have been locked in the garage, is they didn’t want to be rescued, then they should have kept quite and not let anyone know about it.

  36. This is insane and these people who have been locked up are Zambians living in Zambia? Its sad that our people tend not to understand their rights and where are the labour law authorities in Zambia? I cry for my beloved country becasue we let people exploit us whichever way they want and they get away with it. We are not told to standup for what is right even if its your boss. When shall this mentality end? Exploitation of man by man and worse still in your own country. Stupid people!! No wonder Sata is chasing them!! If you want to invest in Zambia behave and respoect eveyone. Who cares about the flipping investors who are ripping you off? Zambians wake up, if people want to invest they should be humble ala bushe ninkanda iya fita eilenga? Be proud of who you are no one is superior to you

  37. Ba Sata, continue sorting these people out. This is our country and if it means they take their businesses away we so be it, maybe we will start investing ourselves. Colonialism is long gone and you want to allow a second version of it, please standup because you too are important!!

  38. Those workers refused to be removed from the garage for fear been fired when there boss comes back.Even during slavely in American some Africans refused to run away for fear of there masters. The faces of the Nsenga boys did tell that they have been trumatised for a long time and they did vote for RB.

  39. THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH RB OR MMD, THIS SHIT CLD HAV BEEN PEPETUATED BY THE WORKERS THEMSELVES. THEY ARE IGNORANT OF THE LAW, SCARED OF LOOSING JOBS IF THEY REPORT ETC
