Felix Katongo is Not Finished Says Renard

Herve Renard has said midfielder Felix Katongo will be Zambia’s star player at next year’s Africa Cup.

Renard said after Wednesday’s final training in Lusaka that he was confident Katongo, who has suffered from a dip in form, will be fit enough for the tournament.

“Felix is not finished and he will be one of the best players for the Africa Cup of Nations,” Renard said.

Katongo has struggled for fitness after leaving Al Ittihad at the height of the upheavals in Libya at the start of this year.

The midfielder is currently at Green Buffaloes since the second half of the season after spending the first half of the 2011 campaign club searching abroad.

Meanwhile, Zambia depart for Johannesburg at 07:00 on Thursday for a three day training camp there en route to Nigeria for Tuesdays friendly to be played in Kaduna.

  1. Why the coach supports this guy so much, does he cheka to Kalusha well? As we know Renard cannot call players by himself unless through Kalusha

  2. I agree!
Felix Katongo is one of our most agile and gifted players. The coach knows this and has assessed that Felix can quickly overcome his fitness problems. Way to go, Renard!

  3. Good move Renard, you know what you are doing, felix is a good player and its good that you understand very well zambian football.

  4. batampa ifya kusamwa ba guy…sakuwaha is tip top right now…
less work of bringing katongo into shape…

  5. JeT Li. Never say never. And FYI he does well at national level. I recall during his stay at Rennes he was restricted to the terraces while at home he was a start player in the Chipolopolo colours. His coach then accused him of not putting in 110% effort at club level. Quite contradictory because the same coach would tell Felix to jog alone while training is in session. GO FELIGOAL GO!!!!
