Some maize not secured, discloses Southern Province Minister

Share

Southern Province Minister Mr. Lukolo Katombora has admitted that an undisclosed number of bags of maize in certain parts of the province have not yet been secured to prevent the grain from been soaked by the rains.

Mr. Katombora notes that more needs to be done by the Food Reserve Agency (FRA) to secure all the maize bought by the agency in the province to prevent it from going to waste.

ZANIS reports that in an interview today, Mr. Katombora said a good number of bags risk being soaked if the FRA delays to protect them.

He cited areas such as Magoye, and parts of Kazungula Districts as some of the areas where the maize was yet to be properly covered with tarpaulins.

“Yes I can confirm that some maize at some depots in the province have not yet been properly secured and therefore I wish to instruct the FRA to quickly move in and cover all the maize in the province,” said Mr. Katombora.

He said the new government would not tolerate any one that would cause the maize to go to waste.

And Mr. Katobora has said the distribution of farming inputs to farmers under the Farmer Input Support Programme was going on well in all parts of the province.

He envisaged that all the farmers would receive the inputs before the onset of serious rains.

Meanwhile, Chief Kathumba of the Chewa speaking people of Katete district in Eastern Province has bemoaned the poor state of roads in his area.

Chief Kathumba says roads in his area have not been rehabilitated unlike in other chiefdoms of Kawaza and Mba’ngombe.

[pullquote]“Everything will go to waste if the Food Reserve Agency does not address the matter,” he said.[/pullquote]

He complained that his chiefdom has remained underdeveloped and that it has not fully benefited from the Rural Electrification project and yet ZESCO pylons pass just about 20 kilometers away from his palace.

The traditional leader was speaking yesterday when District Commissioner Anselimo Mbuzi called on him.

Chief Kathumba expressed hope that the Patriotic Front (PF) government would address some of the pressing issues people face in his area such as access to clean, safe drinking water.

Meanwhile, the traditional leader has expressed worry that maize stored at Nchingilizya mobile satellite depot was going to waste.

Chief Kathumba observed that some of the maize had started germinating saying the Food Reserve Agency (FRA) should quickly move in before the situation worsens.

“Everything will go to waste if the Food Reserve Agency does not address the matter,” he said.

And Katete District Commissioner Anseliomo Mbuzi assured Chief Kathumba that government would attend to the needs of the people in his area.

Mr. Mbuzi noted that government had already shown commitment to addressing the needs of traditional leaders by creating a new Ministry of Chiefs and Traditional Affairs.

“This ministry will look at challenges faced by chiefs in their chiefdoms and seek ways in which they can be addressed,” he said.

  1. …AND THAT GUY WITH DAINTED TEETH WAS SAYING 30 OR WAS IT 60 % OF CORN GOING TO WORST IF IT WERE THE PREVIOUS GVT.IN CONTROL,RELITY CHECK FROM YOUR MINISTER!

  2. BY THE POST…
Dr Killion Munyama: Poland’s Zambian-born, bred MP.

It seems Europe and Africa are reciprocating generosity and talents: Britain gave out Dr Guy Scott, who is now Zambia’s Vice-President, while Zambia gave out Dr Killion Munyama, who was recently elected member of parliament in Poland.

  3. …While Dr Scott retains his Zambian citizenship, Dr Munyama is Polish. Dr Munyama is one of the only two black African-descendants to be elected parliamentarians in Poland.

  4. manje ulya mambala enze panga chongo ati 60%maize bla bla thank me thank me for the maize wud av gone to worst had i not been voted in thank me thank me

  5. THE POST
´Former president Rupiah Banda has been linked to money laundering and abuse of office in relation to the purchase of Plot No. RE/A/29/488A Leopards Hill Road, Kabulonga where these villas are being constructed.´

  6. …Sources knowledgeable about the transaction have disclosed that Banda acquired the property (right) about three months after becoming president for about US$700,000 and demolished what was there to build a multi-million dollar complex of 12 villas…

  7. …”This is why these guys were in a hurry to remove the abuse of office clause from the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Act. How was Mr Rupiah Banda going to explain how he got the money to buy the property, demolish and build his multi-million dollar complex, if the abuse of office clause had remained?” wondered the source. “These transactions that Rupiah Banda got in will embarrass him.”

  8. Thanks Mr Minister for that information.Hey!! can someone responsible insure that the grains dont go to waste.Ba swine ba MMD you failed us and you want to bring confusion in the nation by ploting to asasnate our good leader. We shall deal with you “RUTHLESSLY”.We want to develop the nation and you are disturbing us.Chupit….!!!! *****s.

  9. I dont understand why maize is becoming a topic lately, how people eat that as a staple food is beyond me.

I just had Ballottine of plaice and wild mushrooms, crushed peas, razor clams, pancetta
including a dessert hazelnut parfait and had started with a Cornish crab salad. Now that is life!

    Thanks

    • Young lady, your pride will be your downfall one of these days. It is good to be humble in life because you never know what life may bring. The Bible says and I  quote “Do not judge a man by the abundance of his wealth”. This in other words means that you do not become a better human being by being wealthy. Your fiancée may die or you may be hit by a disease that leaves you severely disabled. And lastly, remember your roots. You are what you are because of the nshima and kapenta that your relatives are still eating back home in Zambia. God bless.

  10. Some of us who have really travelled have also ate polenta which is basically an italian version of nsima. In fact polenta is widely consumed in many of the top fashionable restaurants here in London. Maybe it has yet to reach Glasgow. Why people have to come and show off here is beyond me! Also a lot of foods you buy such biscuits, pastries, sweets contain corn starch which might be another avenue of adding value to the maize we produce in Zambia.

    • to hazel…..
Who cares if tribalist or not……. that man is married to a polish lady with three kids, his education was payed by GRZ,he has doctorate and to crown it all he has more money than you and your entire family, swine iwe!

Continue being a second class immigrant in South Africas´s White Man country.
      MAKAKA IWE…

  11. There was cacophany when the body of the late Mushota arrived in Glasgow.
Mourners were expected to line up at GEORGE SQUARE and GLASGOW SCHOOL OF ART,to pay their last respect, but by 10.30 am nary a soul was there.

Meanwhle,Mushota´s sister from Ndola was shocked to learn that she (Mushota) lived in the gutter with a 12 inch black and white tv,contray to the image she used to potray on Lusaka Times.

    Chota (Mushota´s Uncle)

  12. Zambians and showing off how childish. I love my country and I still enjoy my nshima regardless which country I go to. Let’s be constructive in sharing our views and offering criticism.

  13. @ Mushota … ask your president. Why we have to listen to press conferences about maize. Well, I can help, its the staple food for Zambia.

  14. I became disturbed to hear that Mushota died. Well…even though I am his fun, but I think she brings issues out of now where and makes it interesting. Long live Mushota :)>-

  15. There goes Sata with his 60 percent lies.I’ve said it again & again that Sata and his PF will not be destroyed from outside forces but from within. All parties die eventually of swallowing their own lies.

  16. #21 Lets not be petty about issues. The minister has said that some of the maize has not been secured and he would ensure that FRA secures that. shouldnt that be part of the 60% that could have gone to waste?

  17. Mushota all that stuff you talk about is vanity. Even when you eat like you are in Buckingham palace, you just go shit the stuff the same way that people who ate nshima shit. Life is vanity, and just like some chap in shangombo who’s never tasted all that stuf you eat in Gloasgow, we will all die and what one ate, where one lived will not matter at all. So get a life, a real life!!!!

  18. THE POST

´POLICE in Lusaka have recorded a warn and caution statement from former sports minister Kenneth Chipungu for alleged theft of a cheque worth K25 million.´…

  19. …When approached for a comment, Chipungu shouted at the reporter and refused to take questions.
“You’re taking pictures of me for what? Am I your husband or your boyfriend? Where are you coming from?” Chipungu said before the reporter could introduce herself as coming from The Post.”….

  20. …At this point his wife chipped him and said:”Why are you taking pictures of my husband? Where are you taking them? Should anything bad happen to my husband, God will punish you.”

Chipungu’s wife demanded to grab the camera with a view to erasing the images, but the reporter resisted to have her camera grabbed.

  21. But just yesterday their president was bragging that ALL the maize bought was secure. Taking us for yet another ride. I end here!

  22. Just out of interest, where is our president? I have gotten used to his daily announcements and find it strange not to have heard anything from him in the last two days. Should we be expecting another big and shocking announcement? Hmmmmmm …… I pray for his health and for God to grant him wisdom as he serves the people of Zambia.

  23. The country is slowly presenting difficulties in deseminating credible information to the general public to believe. President Sata is still taking an opposition stance in his press statements to the Zambian people. Only a few hours ago he informed the nation about the successful collection of all the maize in the country. Now a minister objects to that statement and that means the president misinformed the Zambian people. This is now worrying that lies are the order of the day in this govt. It may equally imply that Sata PF followers have not mastered DONT KUBEBA MAXIM.

  24. The challenge for the PF government is to deliver more developmental projects than the RB and MMD economic agenda that all see could& follow.Talk and self praise business wont meet the expectations of the electorate.Time is running out yet what we are seing is stagnation.Township road rehabilitation works have also been shelved for we cannot see contractors working on the roads. The change must translate into GOOD ROADS, MORE AND BETTER SCHOOLS FOR ALL, MORE AND BETTER HEALTH FACILITIES FOR ALL, SECURITY( IMPARTIAL POLICE) FOR ALL AND JOB OPPORTUNITIES FOR ALL.PF should consider working with the opposition and not demonise them for they were elected by the people just like they were elected by the people.Continue with all the good works that MMD provided to the people.WE NEED MATURITY NOW
