Piece of land in Choma identified as new Southern Province provincial headquarters

Share

THE district administration in Choma has identified an area where the provincial capital of Southern Province will be set up, Choma District Commissioner, Nkolola Hazemba, has said.

Mr Hazemba has urged investors to consider setting up more agricultural processing industries in Choma to add value to local produce.

He said in Choma yesterday that a piece of land had been identified where the capital of Southern Province would be located.

He said there were proposals to extend the current Boma premises where the district administration offices are situated to create room for the headquarters.

“We are proposing that the current Boma be expended while we are still identifying more land and the direction of growth for the town.

“In terms of water facilities, we have suggested other sources of water in addition to the current ones. We are hoping to be through with the identification of land by next week and then hand over the report to the provincial administration in Livingstone,” he said.

Mr Hazemba said the surveying of land would be done by the provincial administration in Livingstone once the proposals were approved.

He said Choma was expected to be expanded depending on residential and business areas which would be set up.

“We are cautious on relocation because Choma town is blended together and the cost won’t be too much if we just expand the current structures.

“If a new area was considered, that would entail putting up several new facilities, thereby pushing up the cost,” he said.

He said many people in Choma were happy about the Government’s decision to relocate the provincial capital from Livingstone to Choma.

Meanwhile, Mr Hazemba has urged investors to consider setting up more agricultural processing industries in Choma to add value to local produce.

He said since Choma was an agricultural town, the district administration would welcome more investors, especially in agricultural processing.

“So far, there are so many inquiries on investors wishing to come to Choma to set up their operations but I can’t give you further details until all procedures are finalised,” he said.

  1. i support the relocation of provincial capital totally. next time consider north western province by taking the capital to a central location. wish the goverment well.

  2. Livingstone town is getting a face lift..road constructions everywhere and driving along airport road has never been so nice. Ba PF doing what they promised AND THE CHANGE WE NEEDED. BRAVO PF !!!!!

  3. Number 3 – Have you actually lived in Livingstone for a longtime???? Uplifting Livingstone was a project started by the MMD. Let us give credit where it is deserved. PF could not have come just a month ago, sign all the contracts, have the contractors move in place fix the airport road etc… Let’s be fair. It’s fine that PF are continuing some of MMD projects. Regarding the moving of the Capital from Livingstone to Choma, I think as much as it is a good idea, the timing is senseless. Where is the money going to come from? The PF govt have been eyeing the international reserves accummulated by MMD to cover imports, but that will run out soon. There is now a risk of getting the country into more debt OR build a poor quality porvincial headquarters cheaply! It’s *****ic.

    • you are full of crap, just take your wife, mother, sisters even daughter to Mayfair boy… Let them test the life rich Bemba await them

  4. Why not use qualified Town planners, Surveyors and Architects and Engineers to come up with this kind of plan and then chose the site according to the plans..

  5. Bwana DC you are cautious on relocation because Choma town is blended together and the cost won’t be too much if we just expand the current structures. If a new area was considered, that would entail putting up several new facilities, thereby pushing up the cost….

That is what you are suppose to do by contracting structures away from that busy so called town to a new area where things will be better organised unlike the case now where activities are centred along lusaka road.

  6. Ushe Hazemba uyu ni MuBemba kapena Mutonga? Look he is controlling Choma and yet someone will complain only Bembas ba leteka. If you are claiming to included in Government Go to school. You can not be DC if you did not go to schoool

  7. That is the best idea to have choma up graded , that brings development people must learn to do new things to bring development to our beloved zambia . i like people who bring new outlooks not the same old infrastructure zambia needs to grow iam looking forward where we shall have Kafuwe province

  8. Does this have to be approved by parliament? I for one dont support the moving of provincial capital from Livingstone to Choma especially if we want tourism to play a bigger role in our economy. Livingstone was the first capital of the country and therefore should have special status. Centrality of location should not be the only criteria of selecting where a provincial capital should be.

  9. BOMA NI BOMA – There is a coward who keeps changing names and now calling himself Boma ni Boma. Yesterday he was calling himself RICH BEMBA something….. Now BOMA-NI-BOMA listen very carefully you coward. I know your mother slept with her brother that is how you were born. So as a genetic disorder don’t start a war you can finish you cretin. I suspect you sleep with your mother and your uncle who is your father is jealous of that…

  10. Pls fellow zambians let us not insult each other. Leadership comes from God, so let us respect our leaders. If the person you want to be our leader is not in God’ plan then you vote until you die nothing will happen, especially if you do not go on your knees and pray for him. Livingstone is a tourist capital for the country whilest Choma is the new provincial capital. So to some of you think choma can’t be developed because of lack of money. Have faith in God, all things are possible for this christian Nations mind you it is just 2 years.
