Former Republican President Rupiah Banda has described late David Phiri as a man who worked hard for Zambia. Mr. Banda said Zambian people should celebrate the life of Mr. Phiri whom he described as gallant servant of the nation.

The former republican president said this when answering questions from journalists at the Lusaka’s Anglican Cathedral of the Holy cross this morning.

Also at the memorial service was republican vice president Dr. Guy Scott and other opposition political party leaders.

Mr. Phiri died of heart attack and was cremated on Tuesday. The late Mr. Phiri saved as Bank of Zambia governor and Football Association of Zambia-FAZ among other portfolios.

Meanwhile, family representative Faustin Kabwe said the presence of many people at the church service signified how much the late David Phiri contributed to the nation.

Mr. Kabwe said the late Phiri was a man who loved people hence his funeral bringing together people from various parts of the country.

funerals are now social gatherings, it has nothing to do with the person. Zambians go to funerals to show off .

I was suddened by the death of Mr Phiri under whome I worked as FAZ General Secretary. He’s now joined my other late boss Mr Alex Malama who was his assistant in FAZ. There is no doubt that Mr Phiri’s FAZ Exercutive Committe was one of the best ever.
What suddens me most is that people like him are ignored while they are alive. People start saying this that and the other only after their death!!! Why is this so??
