Sports Minister Chishimba Kambwili has advised sports associations to prudently utilized grants that they receive from government for sports development.

Mr Kambwili said government will not hesitate to take corrective measures against erring sports associations in the habit of abusing financial resources.

Mr Kambwili was speaking to journalist after president Sata lay wreaths at the gravesite at Independence stadium.

And the President has urged Zambians to emulate the National Soccer Team’s hardwork that has brought joy to all Zambians. President Sata told Journalists today in an interview at Lusaka’s Independence Stadium where he had gone to lay wreaths in honour of the 1993 Gabon Air crash victims in view of Zambia’s first ever 2012 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) triumph.

He explained that he decided to pay homage to the fallen heroes who died on duty in pursuit of the national glory which the current team has finally won.

President Sata praised the team for working hard by emerging victorious despite soccer pundits underrating them as underdogs when the tournament started.

Mr Sata implored Zambians to eliminate unemployment and poverty through hard work and contribute meaningfully to the country’s developmental agenda.

Earlier, President Sata laid wreaths at gravesite of the 1993 Gabon Air crash victims as the Zambia Army Brass band played solemn music.

The solemn occasion was graced by the Zambia Air Force (ZAF) planes’ fly past as scores of Matero, Mandevu and nearby residents who were following the proceedings tried to catch a glimpse of the President.

And in a brief sermon, Zambia Air Force (ZAF) Chaplain Father Eugene Nyambe said the service was not ritual but a thanksgiving service for the contribution of the fallen heroes to soccer in the country.

Father Nyambe said the heroics of the Chipolopolo Boys at the just ended 2012 AFCON tournament have brought pride and joy to the nation.

President Sata was accompanied to Independence Stadium Gabon victims’ burial site by Defence Minister Geoffrey Mwamba, Home Affairs Minister, Kennedy Sakeni, Foreign Affairs and Tourism Minister Given Lubinda, Local Government Minister, Professor Nkandu Luo, and Agriculture Minister Emmanuel Chenda.

Others were Defence Chiefs, Lusaka Province Minister, Colonel Gerry Chanda, Lusaka Mayor Daniel Chisenga and other senior government officials witnessed the ceremony.

  3. Wouldnt have been reasonable to invite the team and FAZ to the ceremony possibly with the trophy? It would have meant more sense. May be I’m looking at it differently.

  4. Kambwili barking again. If I were you Hon. minister, I will be busy rejoicing the victory of the chipolopolo instead of attacking and warning the so called ” minor sports association” in Zambia that do not even get any grants from the gvt. We are all aware that small associations walks with a begging bows in the corridors of few companies in the nation that are interested in sports while the gvt looks away. Props up for the chipolopolo for bringing the afcon cup back home finally. probably long overdue

  5. Kkkkkkkkk!!!! as you bark, be mindful that the president has run out of ministries where to send you. Next he will creat a post for you directly at state house so that he can monitor u like being in charge of cartering at state house

  6. Nearly all his entourage was Bemba. This man is without any shame at all, he is busy celebrating our success without realising that had it not been that gallant Tonga man who manned our goal post throughout the tournament, he would not be out gloating around like this.

    • You will reap what you are sowing hate for the Bembas will not take you any where sir.The Lord ids watching you.Ask the white majority will always prevail

  7. why is it that some people always have some ‘trible shit’ to say? This Field marshal Tungulu how does the issue of tribe arise? cause as far as i know even idiots like your self would have gone to the grave to represent the tonga people? Do you know how many ordinaryTongas were there

  8. Field Marshal Tungulu #15, you belong to a group and generation that must die out very, very quickly so that sanity can prevail. Life has moved on. MOVE ON!!!

  9. @ 1 spot on. Kambwili tell FAZ to put its house in order first before attcking the affliates. They should be more transparent and stop acting as players agents. I hope Andrew Kamanga has not given up the fight to clean up Zambian football administration. FAZ is not just about winning the Africa cup bane.

  10. I WILL NOT TOLERATE ANY ZAMBIAN PLAYERS WHO MISS PENALTIES IN THE FUTURE. THIS MUST STOP IMMEDIATELY OR AS MINISTER IN CHARGE OF SPORTS I WILL HAVE TO TAKE ACTION.

  11. Good observation Minister CK i tell you Football House is a den of corrupt activities.Starting from the FAZ president up to a cleaner these people have dirty hands when it comes to corruption. You need to audit them this House.Awe pantu ubupupu is too much, that’s why they have even created positions such as FAZ Spokesperson, honestly for what? It’s one way of stealing money we don’t need to have a FAZ spokesperson.
