Kachingwe’s book – ‘ Last Hours of RB ‘ inspired by distortions

By Kaseba (Literary and research journalist and Editor of upcoming‘A Concise Dictionary of Common Names of Zambia)

Movement for Multi Party Democracy (MMD) National Secretary Major Richard Kachingwe has said his book, “The Last Hours of RB” was inspired by press distortions that MMD and former President Rupiah Banda resisted to concede defeat to Patriotic Front (PF) in the 20th September, 2011 tripartite elections.

Major Kachingwe who is organising the MMD national convention scheduled for 25th May, 2012 and in court in defense of MMD elections materials acquisitions, said in an interview with Kaseba (co-presented with Kawang’u Muzhina) during recording on yesterday of ZNBC Radio Two programme, “Book Spectrum” to broadcast on Monday 20:30.

“I was inspired by distortions in the press, local and international, that MMD and RB did not want to concede (defeat). At that time, as National Secretary, I was closer to RB. We moved with him everywhere. And even the night they were counting we were together. …I wanted to clear the air and say it were not so.[pullquote]UNIP has opened an ANC and UNIP archive, developed a professional catalogue, and digitalised thousands of documents of ANC and UNIP documents from 1959-1991. The archive is the second largest political archive in Zambia after The National Museum[/pullquote].

“I thought it is important, the international community respected Zambia for their democratic transition or handover of power. But then, in the midst of that (there were) distortions. I wanted to clear that air, there was no such resistance. Everything was law governed and we were prepared to hand over power in a decent way, to give the Zambian people what they wanted. There was no time where it appeared he was not going to concede,” he said

Major Kachingwe’s MMD in 1991 defeated UNIP and President Kenneth Kaunda conceded defeat before official results whereas President Banda conceded defeat after official results to defuse electoral tension and suspense in Zambia.

In the book, interview and according to President Banda in Boston University (BU) in USA, Kachingwe said MMD and RB were (still) shocked by the election defeat but were willing to concede and hand over power. RB in his first lecture at Boston University counted the peaceful handover of power to PF and President Sata as part of his legacy.

The radio interview also touched on topics outside the book including MMD precedent of third president Levy Mwanawasa’s lifting of second President Chiluba’s immunity and Dr Chiluba’s arrest of first President Dr Kaunda, the fourth President Banda’s legacy as much as MMD loss of steam in its initiated fight against corruption.

In the same programme, Comrade Anamela accompanied by his research officer Elina Nyirenda said UNIP has opened an ANC and UNIP archive, developed a professional catalogue, and digitalised thousands of documents of ANC and UNIP documents from 1959-1991. The archive is the second largest political archive in Zambia after The National Museum.

“We have worked in the last 20 years in the opposition to preserve this very important historical heritage. We not only hold UNIP historical materials but also the ANC material because…following the Choma declaration (in 1973) United Nation Independence Party and African National Congress merged. The ANC materials became part and parcel of UNIP materials,” said Vice UNIP President Anamela.

Further, UNIP, is considering a name change from United Nation Independence Party to United Nation Integration Party. UNIP broke away from Harry Mwaanga Nkumbula’s ANC to found ZANC, the forerunner of UNIP which later outlawed and absorbed ANC.

    • who knows may be you will die before him please stop wishing others dead unless you know your fate, even if you hate but not wishing him dead if its at the village they will call you a witch or wizard may the lord have mercy on you

  1. # 2,
Unlike of you, on this you must be a victim of tavern talk. Sata though in a gradual recovery and not reporting for work since his return from a surgery at the hand of an NRG doctor at Samved Hospital in Gujarat, the man is around. Its unfortunate that his staff rashed him back under the torment of aggressive investigative media. We should learn to respect each other more on sickness and death because none of us is immortal. We know that Sata’s lampooning of late Anderson Mazoka and Mwanawasa was amoral but we should not fall into vengeance.

  2. Its not a secret that at 75 years, the old man has many complicated terminal health issues. But as a cultured people lets draw a line of proof that we can be moral beacons unlike his nature of lampooning opponents on sickness. Its unfortunate though that leaders are embarrassed of their health challenges.

Google this, ” NRG doc prescribed Ahmedabad treatment to Zambian president”.

  3. #5. I don’t even know an inside of tarven, I saw this on another thread and was expressing my surprise and wanting to find out more from those who might have ears to the ground. Despite UKWA’s bad attitude towards others who are we to wish him dead?

  4. #2 May the Lord have mercy on your poor depraved soul for wishing otherpeople dead (and obviously enjoying it) on EASTER!!! THE DAY THAT THE LORD “HAS RISEN”.

  5. iwe chi No.6 there is nothing special there apart from saying ukwa was recommended to go to india by NEG? so what if some agent advises you to go to a particular hospital they work for? Chi alarmist!

  6. #9 where did I wish anyone dead? Is hearing a statement and asking about it wishing someone dead? Each one of has his/her own appointed time lol.

  7. #2 & 11 What does lol mea? Isnt it Laugh Out Loud? ITDOES NOT require a rocket science to interpret your dispostion/mood? If are honest (at least with yourself) look inward of yourself/conscience

  8. @Mimi

I wouldn’t waste my energy replying to bitter eunuch$ like SENIOR CITIZENS who are yet to see themselves in the mirror.

  9. #13, that’s your interpretation and you are entitled to it. In any case there is nothing sacred about UKWA, me or anyone else dying is there? So no need to raise your BP for.

    • Whoever you are I wish you could be honest with yourself. May whatever you wish others be done in your own family. Of course if it is something good then you have nothing to worry about.

  10. @17 I said nothing sacred about dying my friend because it is a sure destiny for all. Does that mean life is not sacred to you?? or you are choosing to misunderstand me.

  11. @19 Unfortunately we shall differ even on this one because I do not believe in this pagan Ishtar celebration. Please research on the origins of easter then you will understand how blindly people have been following a pagan institution.

  12. @ 21 Amen and Amen my dear. I pray that you find the truth and the truth shall set you free. Enough now I have a proposal to attend to.

    • #mimi I agree with you all the way. See below statement I found.

When confronted with these facts about Easter, many professing Christians might raise this question to justify its continuance: With hundreds of millions of well-meaning Christians observing Easter, doesn’t this please Jesus Christ? Yet He has already answered this question in Matthew 15:9
: “In vain they worship Me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.” How will you choose to worship Him—in spirit and in truth, or in fraud and in fable?

  13. 22.1 chibuzebuze. Be careful with what you read or pick up from the internet or books for that matter. Just because its on the internet or in a book does not make it fact. Were you or the blogger there 2000 years ago to suddenly challenge a tradition that early christians celebrated and passed on from generation to generation. So to you the resurrection of Christ is a myth to to compete with pagan ritual of isthar? So for U the apostles/disciples never celebrated JESUS’ RESSURECTION! The joy of the 3 women finding JESUS’ tomb empty is fake? My foot!

    • #Theoretician. I don’y know what you are on about?!! Matthew 15: 9 is very bold and clear. Christ said we should break bread and drink his blood in remebrance of his death. The easter celebration is commemorted by easter bunnies (bunnies sere a symbol of fruitfulness) and easter eggs. So where in the bible do you find such a practice. Please don’t misquote or misunderstand me with your view that I do not believe in the ressurection of Christ to the contrary. I believe that Christ died for my sins and he rose again, but i refuse to believe that easter or any other pagan festival celebrated by christians and non-believers alike has anything to do with Christ.

  14. You can write a million books to massage the pain and lick your wounds, but the simple fact is that Ala Bee lost and is 6 months down the line still in denial. The author of this worthless crap of a book full of lies will recieve his temporary reward, but the truth will prevail. We all know why Ala Bee wept and even a sill book can not change our interpretation of that weeping.

  15. In bigger democracies, governments are bigger that the office of the president. Presidents speak through their appointed representatives. The previous culture in Zambia had everything and decision tired to the president. This is a culture Mr. Sata is trying to break. The heard of state should not be seen to be the only person running the country. Other institutions have to be seen to be working. Mr. Sata’s approach sounds like he read to help change the entire belief and culture of everything being around the president.

  16. Emwe bantu sure ba MCS has never moved around the country in six months Imean half a year!!!. he just goes to church and then back to hide in his bedroom. Now he has even stopped appearing in public. something is terribly wrong here. Guys did we really make the right choice? We deserve much better don’t you think?Anyway lets wait and see.

  17. Sick mimi agen.pliz ur a mental patient u better visit chainama before its too late.do u realy hav parents shame on dem for yr poor upbring

  18. Zemuntu hahaha it takes two to tangle. How did you know I do not put pants on and I am a prostitute? Thats makes you my client and what do you call yourself. You seem to be obsessed with me. I was having a civilized conversation with a civilised person then you jump on the bandwagon you *****. You can’t understand our simple conversation and all you know are insults. A taste of your medicine then, wabe tole with baby size penis you son of a bitch. Leave me alone. Munungu wahao, ni malete abomaho wena nja tuwe.

    • Ahau chwale bo ma musike mwa bilayela ni ku posa nako yaku lwaha Theoretician. Kinamalyanga yasina boko mwa toho yahae. Kiyena ya kula mwaboko hape akuna mulyani wakumufolisa.

  19. The Book on RB could have been interesting and popular if it was written by Dora Siliya or Venon Mwanga, but by Kachingwe. Who is Kachingwe anyway, I never heard or wish to know who he is.

  20. It is Ukwa who had a very bad upbringing. He is the one who was wishing others dead and he will also follows suit. He wont even finish one term.

  21. At the rate things are going in zambia the book should have been titled “The last hours of PF” since its clear by now that they never had the wherewithal to run the instruments of state and are doing things by trial and error. These loser will hit an iceberg pretty soon.

  22. This man has drunk, smoked, womanised and talked rubbish all his life and has ever challenged his opponents health status.now his having a dosage of his own medicine. Never rejoice upon your freinds sickness coz 2morrow it will be you. Presido zoona with swollen balls and pissing blood. Malwele yamuli kangala ayo.

  23. The author has openly declared bias by his association and relation ship with RB. It is not what you write, but the amount of credibility the readers can extract from the content. In this case, not zero, but minus 17. The publishing of this book is an insult to readers intelligence by assuming they will take as gospel truth anything printed.

This book is therefore a waste of time and a useless and futile effort by MMD trying to do some damage control on lost public confidence. I can smell RB trying to do a come back after tasting the sweet life in power. Please understand – it is not about RB, but about the people of Zambia.

  24. looking foward 2 read the book.RB ‘smile is stil charming n realy warmed up the americans such they took him 2 lay wreath on martin luther king junior’s tomb.

  25. CHRISTMAS AND ISTHER IS PAGANISM. ONLY IF YOU FOLLOW CHRISTIANITY THAT HAS EVEN NO SCRIPTURE BACKINGS. IF ANY ONE WHATS TO DEBATE THIS, I WILL BE WILLING TO DO THAT AS LONG AS WE BASE OUR ARGUMENTS ON THE SCRIPTURES. JESUS ONLY TOLD HIS DISCIPLES TO REMEMBER HIS DEARTH AND NOT HIS BIRTH NOR HIS RESURRECTION. FULLSTOP.

  26. How,.. Last hours of RB.. is RB no more?…. othayz change the tiltle…. If anything the title is misleading… find a suitable title it is not too late.

  27. It is encouraging that that during a time when both the writing and reading cultures are on the decline there is an effort by a local writer to script recent events. It took me about two hours to go through the “book” and probably it should have been better called an article. It is essentially a collection of speeches and devoid of any privileged insight on what an ordinary Zambian may already not know regarding what evolved during that period. In spite the effort, the “book” should have also benefited from stringent editorial comments because grammatical and spelling errors are recurring.

  28. I read this book about a month ago and i must say i was so not impressed. For starters it does not tell the reader anything new as in most of the information is available in the print media and is stale news. The the level of writing does not reflect that of such an intellectual and is full of the various speeches that were made during the build up to the elections and aftermath.

  29. if u ask me its just a way to make a quick buck. Its going for 50pin after i read it i felt as though i was ripped off maybe 5pin
