UPND joins the boycott of African Freedom Day

Share

The opposition United Party for National Development (UPND) has joined the MMD in announcing the boycott of the Africa freedom day celebrations slated for 25th May, in protest against the harassment of its leader Hakainde Hichilema by PF cadres recently

UPND Secretary General Winston Chibwe says the party is not willing to be part of the confusion at state functions as witnessed during the funeral service of late Princess Nakatindi Wina.

Mr. Chibwe says the party is disappointed with the behavior of the PF cadres who misbehaved in front of senior party leaders.

In an interview with QFM, Mr. Chibwe says the party would rather shun the celebrations than being objects of confusion at state functions.

  1. Can someone please tell me what happened during the funeral service of the late Princess Nakatindi Wina! I seem to have missed it!

  2. We need a credible opposition not one that is led by a person who is bitter. UPND is becoming more irrelevant day by day because of its leaders’ efforts to frustrate even positive things like African Freedom Day. I think this cheap publicity will not help them. If they really need to boycott, why can’t they withdraw their MPs from government so that we see how serious they are about their accusation that PF is the worst government?

  3. #1 #2 #4 – what do you want him to do? Do you expect him to go there and be attacked again by cadres while police are watching? Be reasonable. Zambian people are not stupid – they are watching all this. He has more important things to do. He is a businessman, not relying on winning the presidency to start stealing like PF are doing. I’m not a supporter of UPND but I support his decision not to make a fool of himself again by attending State function only to be humiliated. Ngati mufuna imwe bene yendani koni mukadye – since njala yakulumani.

  4. /:)Has HH ever attended any state function since he became UPND leader? No. So we can’t be surprised but what looks silly is the reason advanced. Just he will not attend, period

  5. Do these small tribal clubs ever learn? They boycotted youth day and women’s day but the Zambian people attended in numbers and oneness. I am getting tied of these cry babies. Let me read this same story on ZWD and compared these tribal under five party’s story. Get a life and learn how to win popularity.

  6. Does UPND ever hold a position of their own without alliances of convinience or inheriting some deceased Party??

First it was reporting that skirmish to the international community, which was expected to shelve issues like Syria, Mali, South Sudan and North Korea to attend to opposition leader in Zambia who was ALMOST roughed up by cadres, lol!! The PF has since castigated those cadres and warned them!

Now UPND, together with MMD are boycotting Africa Freedom Day, Africa should remain in bondage according to these guys?? Are the reasons for boycotting the same???

UPND find a leader, HH has led you nowhere!!!

  7. Anyway it is their democratic right to boycott the celebrations. And this failure by political parties to cage their unruly cadres is really sickening. Why are these riff raff allowed to run riot under the noses of their party leadres and the police? It used to be UNIP youths, then MMD youths and now PF youths. These youths must get a life and not getting excited because of drinking free chibuku. Zambian political party cadres are really cheap!!!

  8. YES,,HH DONT ATTEND THIS FUNCTION CZ PF GOVERNMENT AR SCARED OF U..EVEN AT THE BURIAL SERVICE OF GEORGE KUNDA DONT TEMPT 2 GO THERE,INSTEAD JUST MOURN,,,UKWA HAS LOST DIRECTION.

  9. He’s right, the youth are getting a raw deal from Zambian politicians. In fact, the youth should now be looking to elect someone who was born after 1965.

  10. Amatures quit, under five propaganda what is next for UPND TO BOYCOTT? ELECTION DAY I QUESS.

  11. Koma these cattle herders have no brains ka ? Is it PF Freedom Day or African Freedom Day ? Maybe they just dont have cadres, why was calculator-boy not accompanied by anyone.

  12. The PF leaders and their cadres must be reminded that the tyranny that characterises Sata’s governance has been the traversty of the freedom that our Freedom Fighters gave their lives for. Imagine a series of tortures that Sata has inflicted on our former President RB, his wife and children; the selective harassment meted on George Kunda’s parents in Serenje, tramped up charges made against Dora Siliya, Maxwell Mwale, Mr. Kaingu, Dr. Musokotwane; recent attacks on Mr. Hichilema; selective dismissals of non-Tonga high ranking Govt Officers only to be replaced by Bemba cadres. Many Zambians live and travel in fear – and thus resorting to engaging in whispers of concerns when in company of most trusted friends. MAY 25TH HAS LOST ITS VALUE IN ZAMBA, HENCE IT IS SAFE TO STAY AT HOME.

  13. HH is childish politician. Infact he is raw deal leadr. I thot he was educated but he is showing unpatriotic behavior. African freedom day isnt for pf but for all africans. Let him retire frm politics coz he has failed and wl never rule. I think chipimo fairs well!

  14. HUMMMM! FUNNY, SATA WAS ALSO TOLD HE WILL NEVER RULE ZAMBIA BY NOW GONE KUNDA ONLY A FEW MONTHS AGO. WE ARE GIVING THESE TRIBALIST BEMBA CHAPS WHO THINK THY ARE SMATER THAN ALL ENOUGH ROPE TO HUNG THEMSELVES. THE WHELE TURNS!

  15. Boycotting national events is a tired  and unproductive behaviour fit for the early 90s when UNIP used to boycott under MMD.Learn to change fighting tactics.Whether HH attends or not,the national anthem will be played and proceedings commence.dander heads UPND.

  16. NATIONAL EVENTS ARE NOT FOR CHILDREN UNDER-5,LEAVE ADULT THINGS TO ADULTS AND KIDS FUNCTIONS TO HH/UPND.THIS BOY HH IS UNTEACHEABLE,HE WILL DIE TRYING TO BECOME PRESIDENT.

  17. Boycott was a UNIP strategy which backfired and sent them into oblivion. UPND should show maturity and independence instead of acting like MMD stooges! They have to stand strong and not follow MMD on any decision it makes to convince Zambians that they have leaders who can make their own decision not copycats.

  18. HH IS MAKING A BIG MISTAKE. YOU CANNOT BE SEEN TO BE UNITING WITH MMD. THE MMD WAS REJECTED BY THE ZAMBIANS. SO BY UNITING WITH THEM YOU ARE SAYING THAT YOU ARE THE SAME. SO WE WILL NOT SEE THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE REJECTED MMD AND THE UPND. BOYCOTTING NATIONAL EVENTS ON ACCOUNT OF SOME PF THUGS IS ALSO NOT THE SOLUTION. THIS IS A NATIONAL OR IS IT INTERNATIONAL EVENT WHICH AS A LEADER YOU MUST IDENTIFY WITH. YOU RUN A VERY SMALL POLITICAL PARTY OF SP WHOSE ABSENCE OR PRESENCE AT THIS YEARS EVENT WILL NOT BE FELT. THE ZAMBIANS VOTED FOR THE PF AND AS LONG THE PF IS PRESENT AT THIS EVENT, IT SHALL BE GOOD. YOU RISK RELIGATING YOURSELVES INTO OBLIVION AND EVENTUALLY EXTINCTION IF YOU ARE USING UNIP TACTICS.

  19. The most dangerous politician is the one who takes politics as a form of livelihood, as a job for them to earn a living, take their children to school, feed their families etc etc.

  20. UPND and MMD you have no place in PF and don’t even bother to be attending any functions. With or without your attendance PF functions will still be sucessful.

  21. UPND is a party for the bind who can’t see. How can you have a leader who is so blind and truly speaking the guy will never win an election.Even if we said let’s hold an election to test the popularity of HH he will not be a favourite.

  22. The idea of boycoting (inter)national events by the oppozition or anybody for that matter iz very foolish and an excercize in futility. The sooner we grow out of it the better. It waz wrong when KK, FTJ, M.C Sata did it, and it shall remain so even now and forever more.

  23. This is a good move by UPND, PF can harm the President of Zambia in waiting. PF knows that HH is next and they know they can not pretend. Actually HH should be given state security as it is evident enough that he is the next president of the republic of Zambia.

  24. MMD is reaping what it has sown.WhileI don’t support of whoever does it,MMD tolerated it to the extent that even MMD members who wanted to challenge RB were roughed up.The stance taken by MMD is not only childish but primitive because African Freedom Day is not a brain child of PF.
