In an effort to restore customer confidence in its promotions, MTN Zambia has announced that it will re-draw a new winner of the 1 billion kwacha under the Win Beeg promotion.
This is follows revelations of fraud in the selection of the grand prize winner of the promotion.
The Drug Enforcement Commission has since instituted investigations against winner of the MTN Win BEEG promotion, Namuchana Sinuma and an MTN IT specialist, Jones Ilukena.
It is alleged that Ilukena, who purportedly had an affair with Namuchana, winner of the win beeg promotion, manipulated the system which led to her winning the grand prize of K1 billion.
MTN Chief Executive Officer Abdul Ismail says the promotion was introduced in good faith and was aimed at genuinely empowering the winner but that it is so unfortunate that such a situation occurred.
Mr. Ismail told a media briefing in Lusaka this afternoon that the re-draw will be conducted after investigations are concluded in the fraud allegations.
He says the telecommunications company will cooperate with investigative agencies over the matter as it has a zero tolerance policy on corruption or fraud of any kind.
Mr Ismail could however not give out more information on the case noting that it is still under investigations.

i have always thought of these compatitions and win promotions that they are fake. Even the one on Muvi tv. Winners are fixed by those employed in these cooperations!

I hope others are learning from this… There are a number of suspicious draws, including named big banks where winners and draws are never made public. For those institutions carrying out such draws, please be informed that you keep us wondering. If you don’t mean it, then don’t waste people’s time; and people lets learn to work for our money. MTN is being made to pay for it through their nose; and I hope they mean it when they say they will re-run the draw after investigations are concluded, because cases in Zambia can last a life time before they can be disposed off… In any case, why tie the re-run of the draw to an investigation when customer confidence is at stake… Before you realize, you will be out of business!

This is serious fraud. In other countrries the top management would voluntarily step down taking responsibility. MTN must refund all those who participated – trying to placate punters by one BEEGEE is nonsense. Their stocks could plunge – thank heavens this is happening in Zambia where many would not care less. MTN never intended to pay up the winner, and have now paid this guy and his girlfriend to take the fall, I think.
the best mtn can do as for now is to compensate all that participated in the promotion.

Such draws are not supposed to be drawn by computers as IT gurus will always be on top of the situation.
To all MTN subscribers, lets take MTN to court and  refund us for fraudulent scheme. Its our money. and how long have they been doing this?  By the way ,the same application is being used by Barclays and Stanchart, will help of Ilukena.  ACC/DEG need to find out who else is using this applications, so that we dont end up with fake draws. MTN should not rush to do another draw before the investigation’s are finished and they also need application which cant be manipulated
Even my 5 year old daughter knows that ilukena’s successor as IT boss at MTN will manipulate the system for his whore to win.Just boycott MTN guys and let them know that they cant f.uk around with customers.

First of all MTN must establish how long the scam haz been going on and then start the damage control from there. Else, I smell a rat, a very big long dead rat! This should serve az a wake-up call to other mobile service providerz to be look out for “Jones Ilukenaz” in their systemz. Participated in some competion and accrued millionz of points but couldn’t win even a T-shirt or 5pin talk time consolation!

We have been unreliably informed that one if not all of those people sold their houses after they were handed over. Was it a game of sharing the money with ‘Ilukena’? Please law enforcement wings, investigate Airtel as well.

By the where was the auditor. These are the things, a professional should have checked. The auditor should have had a look at the source code and then compiled it and entered test data before going live.These are are fundamentals in programming and computer auditing.

Â By the way, how can I block receiving nonsensical spam messages from MTN asking me to participate in one draw or another at K2,000/sms message? Â Are these people licenced to run a private lottery? Â I don’t gamble and always thought the BEEG campaign was a BIG SCAM. Â
MTN, the public has lost confidence in such promotions. Who knows may be there is another Jones Ilukena! A computer or just technology in general has been created by a human being and as such manipulation is expected at ay stage of the process, especially this time when many people have come to love money more than anything else.

This exposes Accounting firms as mere suckers who validae anything as long as they are paid. There professionalism comes to question. What exactly where they doing? Grant “Thorn Torn” seem not to have the capacity to handle such matters. Why not use hackers to check security loopholes instead of these now worthless auditing firms.
