MMD goes to the polls.

Share

Movement for Multiparty Democracy presidential aspirant Nevers Mumba says the former ruling party is under pressure to prove to the Zambia people that it is democratic.

Dr. Mumba says the holding of the national convention is the final chapter for the MMD to live to its promise that it is democratic.

And Dr Mumba is optimistic of being elected MMD president during the partys convention today.

He says he has done a good job during the campaigns to warrant election as MMD president.

He says if credibility is not upheld during todays convention, the MMD will never rise again.

And another presidential candidate, former finance minister Situmbeko Musokotwane says he has put in his level best to take charge of the MMD.

Dr. Musokotwane says he has left everything to the MMD members to chose who will lead the party to the 2016 elections.

Meanwhile, Enoch Kavindele, who is also vying for the presidency says MMD members should support him as he is not new to the party.

He has promised to bring positive change to the party in readiness for the 2016 elections.

Others vying for the MMD presidency are former commerce minister Felix Mutati, Chisamba member of parliament Moses Muteteka, former health minister Kapembwa Simbao, and former foreign affairs minister Kabinga Pande.

  1. I wish the MMD could see that the right man for the job is Kapembwa Simbao. This is the only man who will not be put under pressure by PF. He has no dent as opposed to Never Mumba who will soon be dragged into court as soon as the PF are sure he is MMD president. Kapembwa is the right man for the job. He is sober and very mature, he is not a gold digger like others vying for the to position in MMD. VIVA Simbao.

  2. VOTE WISELY MMD Cadres and select a reputable leader, we would like a person who can add value to our Multiparty Country, not the likes of HH and his UPND.

  3. May the best candidate win. Musokotwane campaigned on the basis that he is non Bemba and economist, Mumba ati integrity and experience. Mutati ati investment guru and respect in politics. Kavindele ati he has money. Muteteka, Pande, Simbao katwishi

  4. MMD, just check, Where is UNIP? You will never rise again. This convetion is the last nail in your coffin!!! Mark my words.

  5. I think comparing MMD with UNIP is a weak analysis. Look at who is leading UNIP today, one of KK’s kids! In other words there was no real democratic governance within the party. The UNIP has had the same leader for a very very long time. That alone shows the differences between the two. Furthermore unlike UNIP, the MMD continues to have a very large presence in the national assembly. With the right leadership the MMD can survive this period, with the wrong leaders the chances are it will dwindle and become smaller and less significant. Either way it is far to early to say it shall never rise again. Of course that is just my opinion :)

  6. MMD cannot die like UNIP because MMd and PF are alike. UNIP is ideologically different from MMD and PF.

The same people that voted for ex-MMD people like Sata, Guy Scott are likely to vote for MMD at 2016. Wait and see.

Besides, Nevers Mumba is likely to win the MMD presidency. If people can vote for Sata, they can vote for Nevers. Already it seems Sata is rattled by Nevers – check Donchi Kubeba vs Donchi Kutina at GK memorial service. He has already shown he is capable of standing up to Sata and PF. Despite them harrassing him.

If MMd puts up a good ne management team, they will give PF a good run for their (State) money.

  7. Doesn’t make any difference who wins. MMD is a sinking ship. All that talk of being a democratic party is too little too late. Basensela elyo akasuba kawa!

  8. MMD will be back, do not underrate this party, you will be one of those that will soon regret the performance of your Pathetic Future ( PF)….. already a number of you are dilemma . Nomba nsonifye shalamipaya.

  9. For MMD to be a strong party they need to elect Mutati or it will be like UNIP. With a good leader MMD will be a strong opposition party that wont die. Nevers Mumba will be a wrong person to Put as well as Stumbeko Musokotwane, Kapinga Mpande, Kavindele even Muteteka. Possibly Simbao might do a good job so only two candidate of which the best would be Mutati if they want to give government real checks and balances as well as winning the presidency especially in 2021.

  10. Any neutral political observer knows that a new government can only sustain its popularity if they deliver people’s and voter’s aspirations. If a new elections are held say 2 years into the term, the new govt most likely losses a lot of voters.

Just look at mid term elections in USA and council elctions in UK.

PF were never judged on performance before. At 2016 they will. It will be harder for them than it was at 2011. On teh other side it will be easier for the opposition. That’s the way it goes.

  11. MMD has an indelible dirty tag which is vividly still fresh in people`s minds. It would take a miracle to cleanse and win the people`s hearts and minds especially with the same recycled players of `group think` mentality. Unless otherwise, it appears PF too is headed in that direction because it`s actions so far have not been for the common good.

  12. I Would like Kapembwa to win the Presdency of MMD. He would offer Services as an Opposition Leader, especially if given support. He is educated, He is mature, From his consituency they love him even in the midist of the roaring PF he managed to scoop a seat for MMD. Try him and you will not regret. BA Amuza

  13. Good luck MMD, elect a credible leader please, the next election belongs to you. And always be ready for a snap poll.

  14. I feel pity for those who cnt face reality and accept that mmd is gone forever.Kip on dreaming in the dreamland….. all the best.By the way,PF will be in gov 50yrs mark my words.Jst move on guys.life is too short.

  15. MMD expired with the outlawing of corruption! Wait for the commercial and criminal lawsuits tobe filrd. Woe betide the one that will be the party’s president and secretary general.
