Joseph Mwanza, an independent candidate for Livingstone parliamentary seat has pullout out of the race but has thrown his support for Patriotic Front (PF) candidate Joseph Akafumba.

But Livingstone district electoral officer Vivian Chikoto said her office had not yet received a withdrawal notice from Mr Mwanza.

Mr Mwanza was quoted on Zambezi Fm radio saying that he was stepping down as an independent candidate to support his brother Akafumba because he wanted to work with the Government of the day.

He had always been advocating for an environment in which President Michael Sata had been emphasing such as good governance and the fight against corruption.

Mr Mwanza said PF was very strong on the ground from the time it won the September 20 tripartite elections and hence he wanted to work with the ruling party.

“I am joining PF because these other parties don’t have a vision for the city of Livingstone to make it as a tourist capital,” he said.

Mr Mwanza was among five candidates who successfully filled their nominations for the Livingstone Parliamentary by-election last week.

Other candidates who filled their nominations were Mr Akafumba, Howard Sikwela of United Party for National Development (UPND) and two independent candidates namely Soko Zondhwayo and Stephen Zulu.

But when contacted for a comment, Ms Chikoto said her office had not yet received a withdrawal notice from Mr Mwanza.

“I have also just been hearing of Mr Mwanza’s withdrawal from the Livingstone parliamentary by-election race but he has not written anything to my office,” Ms Chikoti said.

  1. He’s supporting a dying party;he will sink with it.The pf govt has no vision and the livingstone seat is fast going to UPND.

  2. A Mwanza, which plan have only you seen on Chimbwi no Plan? Anyway, with the way Sata’s PF has tribalised Zambia, it would be impossible for aSoko or aMwanza to win in Livingstone. It’s like saying Hichilema can win in Kasama or Chipata. The tribal lines are drawn and very clear in black and while all over Zambia, only those in self denial are blind to this reality.

  3. I hear him, but as far as the law is concerned he is a valid candidate having filed his nomination papers. He should have done so before the filling of nominations

  4. it is time for the tongas to change their mind set .you have been voting for upnd for more than 20 years but what development have these fools brought to your province.anyway you you believe in kuyumayuma

  7. PF should lose Livingstone, Muchinga and Chama by elections. To teach them a lesson. already Chief Chibala told off Guy Scott for only finding time to Visit his Chiefdom on acount of a By-Election. Kunda Jr. beat these guys hands down. Livingstone residents, do Not Vote for PF. Akafumba is a spent force.
