Action Aid Zambia has observed that disclosing how much the government is spending on the constitution making process will accord the citizens an opportunity to decide other cost effective means of adopting a new constitution.
ActionAid country director Pamela Chisanga has told QFM news that this will help the people and the government on how the constitution making process will be done without spending a lot of resources.
Ms. Chisanga added that disclosing how much is being spent on the constitution making process will also indicate how cost effective the roadmap that the technical committee has undertaken is.
The civil society leader noted that PF government has an opportunity to leave a legacy behind by giving a people of Zambia a good constitution.
Ms. Chisanga has since urged the government to give its position on the setting up of the referendum commission that would be tasked to hold a referendum on the bill of rights as required by law.

is it still donchi kubeba?
This in itself will cost more money’, at times it’s good to use ones head to reason than just open your mouth to be noticed,,,like in many casesÂ
So why waste more money on a project that is already costing the govt and Zambians money?
i wonder if this will be done;it is such a great idea to foster good governace in the country. The process started in MMD and at no point did the previous filthy government ever tried to be transparent.PF should take the advise and atleast prove to the zambians that transparency is cardinal and not just talking all the time.
After condeming the NCC costs …wait and see ni dont kubeba.
the NCC cost was publicised…lomba mufisanji amabala!
The cost of committee sittings has already been been published. The process is almost complete now. Ba chisnaga where have you been. All is required is to publish the cost after the constitution has passed. With the FOI alreadey drafted that should be easy to do
Pamela Chisaka of Action Aid zambia is being economical with truth over the stance of PF govt with regard to the process of Constitution of Zambia. The current govt talked loudly how they wanted to be champions over the making of the republican constitution to the extent that they publicly stated they would put in place a new constitution within 90 days. Obviously, this is impossible however, they went ahead to make that promise for political millage. Secondly, they have always said they will spend less money compared to MMD who gobbled millions. But when asked how much they are apying as allowances, they never disclose the expenses that has gone into constitution making committee. For Chisanga to press like PF govt has been transparent since then is short of being truthful.
PF government has /will never be transparent over numerous national issues. Ms Chisanga with other NGOs must realise that PF govt strives on errors of the past govt and thereby seen as very innocent people leading the nation today. Scandle after scandle is burried under the carpet to present themselves as innocent when things are not right in the nation. Zambians had hoped new methods of governance would result in the change that Zambians voted for but we have moved 10 or more years back. The medicine we took as Zambians is more bitter and worse than the disease we intended to cure.
Zambians deserve to know what is going on, dont do it like MMD STYLE already this exercise costed billions of taxpayers money in MMD and the material never materilized.
the past tense of cost is still cost, mwila laba
Madam chisanga be concerned with the contents of the constitution and not the expenses. Laywers are expensive and you don’t expenct a former Chief Justice to be paid peanuts. Pliz do not mislead the public
Makes sense — it is my money, why should’t I know? If I had known, I’d be able to decide if 50 days extra is worth it!
Am really concerned with the way things are moving with the constitution making process,
we expected to move step one by now , also the preparation of translated vision into the local languages, why was it done at the same time with English one, than giving one at a time. this is time wasting and money. Pf must do something together with technical team. we do not need extension as we are now hearing it will be next year and huge of money is prepared for it. All the best for our Nation
