Local government minister Nkandu Luo has observed that some of the businesses that the councils are supposed to run for purposes of revenue collection have been taken up by individual senior council officials.
Professor Luo has told QFM news that this has resulted in conflicts of interest especially in the hospitality business where councils are supposed to run guest houses.
The minister adds that this has led to the deterioration of most council guest houses in the country thereby contributing to the narrowing of the revenue base for local authorities in the country.
Professor Luo observed that some senior council officials that have set up personal guest houses seem to have neglected the running the council guest house facilities.
She stated that these are some of the many management issues that the ministry seeks to address to improve efficiency in the local government system.

Guest Houses are a small part of Council revenue. Why dont they run buses, Taverns, Toilets, Markets, Bus Stop stalls, Stadia etc?

Can you probe who sold himself council Taverns, envicted poor sitting tenants fro council houses and allocated his relatives council houses so that they could buy them. Who is it? Is it not Kabimba. Can you address these injustices.
Mr minister talk less ACTION MORE…..The worst crime is being an accomplice by doing nothing! Especially that Local govt squarely rests on Luo’s shoulders!! The failure or success of the councils & its staff are 100% in the making of LUO AND PF’S POLICY on councils&local govt. wake up Luo!!!
Councils! Councils! Councils! Lord save from councils. What councils know best is how to collect money for doing nothing. Â They collect service charges when one is allocated a plot but no service is provided. What services are people charged for? Twice a year they collect rates and threaten legal action against defaulters. For what? Please someone enlighten those of us who have no idea what councils do.Â
let councils just maintain law and order. let them stop this thing of running things
I doubt if local government is in the right hands with Madam Lou?
