FLASHBACK: FORMER President of Zambia,Dr.kenneth Kaunda was present at the ceremony of South Sudan independence birth day in Juba, South Sudan

Zambia has expressed disappointment over the omission of the country’s First Republican President and freedom fighter Dr. Kenneth Kaunda on the list of prominent African personalities honoured by the African Union (AU).

Foreign Affairs Minister Given Lubinda says Dr. Kaunda is an African statesman who deserves honours from the Pan African organisation for the critical role he played in the struggle and liberation of the African continent.

Mr. Lubinda told ZANIS in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia today that Zambia has since contested the issue at the on-going summit.

He said Zambians will not sit back and see history being buried because the history of the liberation struggle of the continent cannot be complete without the inclusion of Zambia and Dr. Kaunda in particular.

“This is a serious omission. Many Zambians will not take kindly to this,” Mr. Lubinda said.

Mr. Lubinda said he was, however, pleased that the contention has received active attention from the moment it was advanced at the AU meeting.

He said the AU Commission Chairperson Dr. Jean Ping has since assured him that the first five prominent people who have so far been honoured by the organisation were not the last.

The Zambian Foreign Minister said the country has requested the AU to come up with proper criteria which will guide member states on the people to be considered for honours.

“We have told them to ensure that a criterion is put in place so that countries can submit their nationals for consideration,” he said.

So far the new AU complex building has been decorated with the portraits of Nelson Mandela, late Congo DR Prime Minister Patrice Lumumba, and Former President of Egypt Agdel Nasser and Emperor Haile Selaise of Ethiopia.

A statue of Ghana’s First President Osagefu Nkwame Nkuruma has also been mounted in the front of the multi-million dollar Chinese built AU headquarters.

  1. “This is a serious omission. Many Zambians will not take kindly to this,” Mr. Lubinda said…Is this some kind of the usual light hearted moment? Who really cares about such economic insignificant portraits?
Its a new age i bet peeps are as busy as here.

    • Wait until you are his age and have no one to help you to the toilet. Then you will regret no kufyalwa because if these children of today like you can be so insensitive, imagine in your time. It will be like the olden days! Feed you to the crocs or let the hyenas celebrate and laugh at the god given meal; a human being. Keep laughing and I hope you die young. Walitipwa iwe.

  2. It because of the undiplomatic leader we have they ahve forgotten all the good we are known for you are to blame given and your u

  3. Kaunda’s recent cadre behaviour running around the world fruitlessly could have caused the AU to think twice. The man needs to understand what democracy is, NOT that nonsense of ‘One Party participatory trash’ that he is trying to mentor Ukwa into…….

    • Nabakufyele nabobene balifye ifitotoli. How can you disrepect the founding father like this? Mangala amisambilisha ne chisungu, and you start insulting him from his and other selfless freedom fighters for giving you ichikumo chanchisungo tawafyelwe nacho? You can insult Sata all you want not Dr Kaunda iwe pompwe kolwe.

  4. AU is an organisation that does function the way Africans want it to. Don’t worry ba Zambia. We all know what KK did for Africa. That’s important!

  5. Whats wrong with the AU? Is it being led by people who dont know the importance of History? No black man can ignore History! Whether they like it or not Kaunda liberated Southern Africa. He was involved in virtually all Southern African countries’ struggle for freedom and you dont need to have a university edecation to know that. So how can the AU which he co-founded forget his numerous contributions? Where are our musicians? Sing songs of this man’s contribution to African freedom Ala ukutumpa!

    • Ulifblye bwino mwana wesu. Kuti wasuka watukana. The liberator of the entire southern africa and yet we get thanked like this. Aleni, kabili refugees keep trickling into zambia. Send them back to all these war torn countries if they cannot appreciate our benevolence.

  6. Without condoning what has happened, this is a reflection of what other nations view Zambia, in particular the current leadership. Zambia’s voice is not being ‘heard’ internationally. Our leadership needs to interact more meaningfully with other countries, in particular in the SADC regional block. Obviously KK is one of the persons who really worked hard for the liberation of this region,

  7. That is what happens when you are busy calling each other hyena when important things are happening around you…

  8. KK is the best in zambia when you compare him to the likes of sata, chiluba and rb but not in africa. Zambians shud that somtyms yo best is not good enough.

  9. Nkwame Nkuruma turned into a dictator during his presidency and yet he is honoured by erecting a statue in his name? Not right! Zambia hosted many freedom fighters and refugees during the struggle from Zimbabwe, South Africa, Namibia, Angola, Mozambique through the leadership of Dr. Kaunda. It is a serious oversight on the part of the AU to over look the role KK played in liberating Southern Africa from the colonialists. Dr. Kaunda is one of the few Africa leaders of his time that gave up power without bloodshed and he is a gre

  10. all those honoured are DEAD,but ba KK is still alive, from the AU culture mentality they cannot bestow honourship to somebody who is still breathing.most african customs, we only say good things when a person is dead even if deep down our hearts we know its not true.nobody can compare KK to patrice lumumba.the best list would have been,NELSON M,KWAME NKU.KK.NASSER, its sad indeed for the au, which was born in lusaka.

    • Mandela was in prison during the liberation of africa, and zambia took care of south african freedom fighters. You cannot compare him to Dr Kaunda. South Africa was liberated by Oliver Taambo who was Mandela’s senior and I don’t mean to take anything away from Madiba. But Super Ken did what mandela could not do in prison. Kaunda worked with Taambo and gave sanctury to most south african freedom fighters who could have been killed if they had remained in SA. That’s what started our hardships economically because the western world saw super ken as a threat. They didn’t care about mandela who was at robben island.

  11. Kaunda, Kaunda, Kaunda….KK, kk kk KK. There cannot be Mandela without KK. KK did everything to make Mandela what he is today. KK and Nyerere need to be the first on the list followed by Micheal Sata.

  12. It is not just zambian who will not take this righly: Zims, aba Sasa ba Tswana, ba kwa ka muzu and ba nyakyusa: they should stand up and speak out against this omission.
Anyway, AU is run by dictators and criminals. HOW ABOUT Gaddaffi??????? You must honor him also.

  13. # 17. Bishop Nawaka if AU was to start from the bottom of the list of African leaders, President Sata would be the first to be honored. For now they are considering from the top, tough luck. However, KK should have been honored on the first list

  14. Let’s wait and see, could have been a serious omission without our protest. Also, it could be a reflection of how FTJ treated KK after he handed over power peacefully. Posterity will judge us harshly if we don’t correct our own wrongs.

Given’s move is right and we need to be on top of it, all of us … from State House to the ward. Around the world, the next mentioned statesman after Mandela is not Lumumba, nor is it Nasser neither is it Selaise, it is KK.

Further still, the general populace of the smart people of the Zambian Enterprise never honored KK’s legacy. It was for this reason that our group was the first to create the KK Fan Club on Facebook but overall, it has taken our kind to give honor where it is due, how much other nationals that make up the AU.

    • In my opinion and I am old enough to know what Super Ken did, Mandela was in prison during the liberation of africa and serve for the senior partner and ANC president Oliver Taambo working with Mankangala, South Africa would probably not have been liberated that quick and mandela who have died in prison. Lets give what’s due to the founding father who actually played a pivotal role even in the realease of mandela, I was a student at Ndeke ‘A’ and old enough when lusaka post office was bombed and when Mr Alick Nkhata was killed over the fight against apartheid and Ian smith.

    • BR Mumba SR, do not even seat back and let the AU ommit our contribution to the liberation of independence to AFRICAN states.

Why should we be diplomatic about this insult to our being as a nation,KK as our President made a decision on our behalf to risk it all for our brothers and sisters in other African countries and only to be snubbed like this, all HELL must break loose and we should stake our place. By the way this is only being announced today where was our Intelligence community and our staff in Addis abbaba who should have teased this one out along time? What has the foreign ministry been doing about this? My brother don’t be academic just, you are an inspiration to most of us but be street smart also.

    • Ba Kasuba … it is for the same reasons you advanced that I went ahead and created President Kenneth Kaunda’s page on facebook way back in 2007, long before most of our smart people from the Zambian Enterprise even knew it existed. Check it out at facebook.com/groups/kennethkaunda/

  15. What has Mandela done for Africa, to be recognized instead of our Gallant Soldier of Africa Dr kaunda, this is indeed silly.
Now AU is run by a matures who were not there when Gallant men of the soil Kaunda, Nyerere to mention a few risked there lives for Africa. The name of Mandela should be the last name on that building, he fought for South Africa and not Africa. We may not be in leadership but we know our history

  16. Lubinda thinks he is in zambia fighting mmd and opposition. You cant honor everyone at once its step by step! Even in Zambia do you honor everyone at same time! FTJ has not been honored yet and yet we saw summer Kabimba honored this year. Who deserves more between the two if we put politics of hatred aside? AU honored those first five and later others. It will be chaos if TZ also protested for Nyerere and many others! You shud be patient ba kabwa! KK did great things and AU cant forget!!

  17. Given is right the next important man in African politics and the like is super ken KK. All those guys who have been captured at the AU hq are not even closer to what KK did to Africa. Let’s also have Gadaffi as one of the important guys to be captured at AU hq otherwise these AU crooks will never be trusted. I rest my case!

  18. Let us respect criteria the AU applied in selecting personalities that deserved to be honoured at this juncture. This is not the first and last gesture on the part of the AU as this is a continuous programme. Lubinda must persuade his President Sata to avail himself in Ethiopia so that he can articulate to sell his CV and role he played in the fight for Zambia’s independence. Sata has punched cracks in the security of the African continent as he drums up support of his colonial masters. KK could keep a distance from the PF so as to exhibit neutrality as a father of the nation. But KK’s recent alliance with a PF Govt whose foundation is rooted in the Western power block could have knocked off some points from his nomination for the AU’s honour. Africa is alert and watching.

  19. As the old addage goes: don’t blame the flies for playing in your mouth, once you leave it wide open”. Zambia has left its mouth wide open for too long! This decision by AU is a clear indication of that. It is up to the Zambians themselves to promote KK. After all, currently, he is the closest we are to the Noble Peace Prize!

  20. Mandela should NOT be the first man its Kwame Nkurumah, Julius Nyerere,Kenneth Kaunda and the rest. Mandela worked so much in South Africa against apathied but these guys were for Africa as a whole or at least in a region.

  21. Kwame Nkuruma, sir Seretse Kama and Patrice Lumumba should be no#1 and the only people honored. They sought African souvereignity and indepent state pan Africanism. The rest mentioned are mere dictators and turncoats.

    • What about Nkuruma? He was overthrown on account of dictatorship but h e definitely was Pan Aficanist in the same league AS OUR OWN KK. KK deserves to be on the first AU honours list, PERIOD!!!

  22. KK is a bad example to the influential dictators who are protected by the useless club. Zambia’s democracy is detested by the ‘bigger’ brothers at AU. Zambia is among the very few African countries that have never produced a political refugee or asylum seeker, and that does not tick with the influential bosses from KK’s generation still presiding over their countries. Additionally, the appointment of a white veep made them mad as hell!

  23. Nelson Mandela cannot make the list first before Kenneth Kaunda, if you history is authentic. It was Kaunda who contributed to the release of Nelson Mandela and it was Kaunda who in the 1950s served as African National Congress Secretary General and Chief organizer. Without his leadership, ANC would not be were it is today. It was Kaunda who provided a safe Asylum for Thabo Mbeki and Winnie Mandela. It was Kaunda who led the OAU which letter became AU to advance African liberation from Colonialism. How dare he is put on a waiting list? an afterthought? It is an insult to African History.

    • Tell them. Mandela survived because of Super Ken’s sacrifice and zambian was punished for that in shortage of commodities as we could neither export nor import anything. I don’t care what the AU say but Dr Kaunda did more to the liberation of africa than probably even Kwame Nkrhuma. Whilst some of these renowned sons of africa were academicians, Dr Kaunda despite being a teacher was a fighter for the freedom of the entire africa.

  24. #1, YOU ARE VERY RIGHT ALTHOUGH I AM PERSONALLY DISAPPOINTED BY DR KAUNDA’S OMISSION. I CAN’T BELIEVE THAT SOUTH AFRICA CAN QUICKLY START FORGETTING THE RELENTLESS HELP AND SUPPORT ZAMBIANS RENDERED THROUGH OUR DEAR KK. MORE SO ALL THE NEIGHBORING COUNTRIES HAVE BEEN REFUGES IN ZAMBIA AND MOST STILL ARE. YOU MEAN EVEN THOSE COUNTRIES WHO STILL HAVE REFUGES IN ZAMBIA FORGOT? I ALWAYS TELL PIPO WHENEVER WE ARE DISCUSSING ISSUES THAT ZAMBIA INFORMATION SERVICE AND OTHER GRZ INSTITUTIONS DID NOT DO A GOOD JOB ON ZAMBIA’S RECORD DOCUMENTATION. EG, ASK ANYONE IN THE RELEVANT MINISTRY TO GIVE YOU A MOVIE ON PETER CHIPANGO OR VIMBUZA DANCER MUKANDAWIRE? THESE TWO AND MANY MORE ARE GREAT ZAMBIA CULTURAL DANCERS, BUT WITH NO VIDEO RECORD KEPT ABOUT THEM. WHAT A SHAME!!!!!!!!!

  25. #s 6 AND 7 THIS IS A SERIOUS ISSUE. IF YOU DON’T KNOW THE ZAMBIA’S HISTORY OR RATHER SOUTHERN AFRICA’S HISTORY DON’T JUST COMMENT. YOUR COMMENTS ARE AS POOR AS YOU MIGHT BE YOURSELVES.

  26. Ati African Union. What Union is this that does not know its own history? If they knew their history they would have honoured Dr Kenneth David Kaunda.

  27. Kaunda inherited a country in 1964 with a billion pounds in reserves. A per capita income of 1400 dollars. Zambia was in fact the second richest country in Africa after South Africa. However kaunda spent the next 27 years of his reign building a one party dictatorship centred around his personality cult. He succeeded in impoverishing a potentially rich country so much so that a middle income at independence per capita income fell to 290 dollars by 1990. Kaunda’s legacy is simply a legacy of failure. He is a good case study of how not to govern a country. That is why the AU could not list of prominent African personalities honoured .Bravo AU!

  28. KK didn’t do anything extra ordinary for AU to be indebted to him. Those who were there in the 70s and 80s know the kind of suffering us Zambians went through because of KK WAMU YAYAYA. It’s only the kids of today who sing songs of praises for this man.
I am sure people who had their relatives killed by the KK machinery would receive this news with glee, Kaunda was not all good

  29. The chap brought the economy to its knees, all because of poor planning. He blew up all the money Welensky left in the coffers on popularity projects. When the money run out he also ran out of ideas. How do you explain the 30 year state of emergency?Bravo AU for putting him were he deserves…in hell!

    • Correct KK should rot in hell he destroyed Zambia once he is now trying to do it again by influencing Ukwa or Chimbwi No Plan!!!!

  30. @Makaveli:

This not about Zambia alone, you worthless piece of gunk!!!
We are talking AU (African Union, Formerly OAU) and not ZU (Zambian Union). And if you don’t know AU can never be what it is today without the likes of Dr. Kenneth Kaunda and Nyerere. If you have personal issues with the man, please keep it to yourself because people who serious with recording history as accurately as it supposed to be may not take kindly to your childish and misinformed rants. And I am trying to be very polite and kind you!

    • @48 you sure are being polite! This Makaveli or whatever he/she is called needs good lessons in history. Bravo Hon Lubinda for  reminding this ungrateful AU chaps about K Ks intense roll in Africa’s liberation history.

  31. KK nids respect where? He was even arrested by his own son(Chiluba) and U expect some1 to do it 4 u zambians! I better honour gorgi mpombo mwandini

  32. Makaveli, whats wrong with you mate? u have a big problem? i see your comments on ZWD, but i didnt expect you to bring them on this site, as you can see here you dont have support go back to ZWD. thats where u belong my friend, there everyone will agree with and then congratulate yourselves for your idiocy. its a shame the world its habits people like you. where is the hate coming from? oh i see from the fact that kaunda seems to be getting along well with the PF government..sorry bro, he is a statesman who does what is best for his country and people. buy yourself a beer or hire a hooker, it may help u calm down, otherwise u may die of heart-attack. Kuand deserves to be honored! thanks Given for see this!

  33. It demonstrates the mind set of people from Western and North Africa. While North Africans dont consider themselves to be part of Africa, most West Africans feel that they are more African than everyone else. No wonder some countries have been fighting to replace its leadership. This altitude can also be seen in Essa Haytou’s leadership at CAF. Ever wondered as to why many West African kids are playing in European leagues? There is more to it than meets the eye.

  34. What extra ordinary thing did haille Selassie achieve aprt from his country being the birth place of the OAU?

What did Mandela do that benefited Africa?

I think kwame nkhuruma, sertse khama, Lumumba, KK and nyerere make the cut.

The other list can be shaka, gadhaffi, amin, mubarak and Joseph Konie

  35. Forgive my writing @46. I am in a hurry but I just couldn’t stand the shallowness of people like @Makaveli. It is disgusting really.

These are the people who would gladly sit by and watch the history of their own country being raped and not say anything about it. I wouldn’t be supprised if these people cheered at the elevation of despots such as Mobutu (DR Congo), Kamuzu (Malawi), Gardaffi (Libya), Mubaraki (Egypt), Mugabe (Zim), etc, ahead of their own galant heros of the African Liberation movement.

You cannot just discount the contributions to the cause of African liberation of people like KK on account of Zambia’s internal politics. Because all these people mentioned on this list had their own internal difficulties. This sort of mindset is dangerous, to say the least. Shame!

  36. Those who look for honors will never find it; let honor look for you. PF you are not sincere; you are looking for honors for KK as a way of demeaning RB and MMD. Sata was among the top leaders in the MMD who were insulting KK every day. You are just useless.

  37. Very sad indeed that Zambia and Kaunda can be ingnored by this AU. Zambia is like this coz of the sacrifice Kaunda made for Southern Africa. Let AU know that Kaunda should be among the first to have been honored.

  38. It cant just be an omission, I think Africa knows more about this man which we are not aware of; that is why he is left out.

  39. I agree with makaveli. Kk doesn’t deserve AU honor. He only did what he did in order to accumulate personnal praises. He even put the zambians at risk from the likes of ian smith and piet botha. It is zambians who need to be honoured and not just this power hungry man

  40. @Kwathu:

Please be serious! I am prety certain even these peole who are being honoured today at the AU had their current govts advocate for them. Any responsible country and govt would not take kindly to such deliberate omissions in the history of the AU and the African liberation movement.

What has RB or MMD done to deserve suppression of their contributions to the freedom cause of Africa?! If you know the contributions of RB to the Liberation strugle, by all means please make sure the next time AU come up with a phony list, you will be the first to raise hell about it! This time around, give Hon Lubinda credit for raising hell about this obviously disregard of not so ecient African Liberation history by leaving out KK. And it is all our duty as Zambians to be on guard for such!

  41. Makaveli/Yambayamba/Dr Mwazawamba may be you dont know your history!! You must very young chaps who should be schooled in Zambian politics/Africa. The despots you mention thats were exactly KK fits! We lost brilliant Zambians during one party state all bcoz KK cudnt be criticized ninshi wapya. hence we lost a generation of ideas /leaders who could have taken Zed forward. We are in this predicament of CNP and leadership crisis bcoz of KK. So recognition/honor will come easily by people not you or pipo seeking it for you. You cant honor everyone at same time!!!

  42. PF stupidity. RB was honoured and you cried nyoooo… Kaunda your errand boy kama High priest is put in his right place as a murderer dictator traitor still crying nyong’o-nyong’o. Mufisanji amambala. You even love kwao ku malawi and send fuel kuno tusauka. Wenyooo…. Mwanyala na chi KK canu. Mathakati.

  43. @57, nampundu:
please don’t be so naive! Yes, I am not that old, but I can tell you that I am old enough to have lived part (and quite a big part) of the history we are talking about here. And let me tell you, if you let others write your history they will write it the way they see it. Do not then come back later and cry about it!
The history of the African Liberation struggle is being written right now! And it is our duty as Zambians to make sure our part in this struggle is accurately reflected. We shouldn’t let whatever internal issues we have/had as a country prevent us from making sure our sacrifices during the struggle against Colonialism is acknowledged and honored through our leaders who participated in that struggle.

  44. conti…from 59:

And KK is one such leader any fair-minded person on the African continent can never overlook. Given, KK is not an angel and he has never tried to erase this part of Zambian history. But to deny the man the honor he surely deserves for his resolute stance against colonialism and White supremacy in Africa (especially the SADC region) is like denying the existence of the Zambezi river!

Look, even people who get the Noble prize have people speaking for them. Can you tell me what Obama has contributed to the struggles of humanity in his 49 or 50 years on this earth to deserve a Noble prize? Other than the fact that Americans had to advocate for him that he deserves such a prize, for God knows what! So look beyond your nose and see the bigger picture, nampundu wesu!

  45. STUPID *****S, MWEBANA BA MASHILU IMWE! HOW IN THE WORLD CAN YOU OMIT THE LIBERATOR OF NOT ONLY SOUTHERN BUT ALMOST AFRICA ITSELF? MANDELA WAS IN PRISON WHEN SUPER KEN WAS FIGHTING FOR SOUTHERN RHODESIA AND SOUTH AFRICA’S LIBERATION AND MOST OF THE FREEDOM FIGHTERS WERE HOUSED IN ZAMBIA. PATRICE LUMUMBA COME ON FELLAS, THESE FELLAS COMPARED TO DR KAUNDA DID A MINIMAL JOB. LUSAKA POST OFFICE WAS BOMBED AND ALICK NKHATA WAS KILLED OWING TO DR KAUNDA’S STRUGGLE FOR THEIR INDEPENDENCE. THIS OVERSIGHT IS VERY DEMEANING OF OUR COUNTRY ITS FOUNDING FATHER.

  46. Excuse me! What contributions did Haile Salasie and Patrice Lumumba make that is of paramount significance to the history of Africa. Lumumba never ruled the Congo; so what is his statue among former African heads of state for?

  47. Again ba Zambia malilisho, u are beaten by SUDAN u protest to FIFA , kaunda is not honoured u protest to AU, marubish country.

    • We rubbish niwe you ignorant Akulu mphumo!!! History is history which you can not change, K K  is an African liberation hero, Period! Whatever you do you will never erase this fact of history.

  48. How can you demand others to honor your father, when your don’t honor him yourself with your behavior?

  49. To Yambayamba No.46
At this stage of public awareness and deep local and international spirited scrutiny, this chimpanzee elects to advertise its foolishness !You are the chaps who are giving the Zambian embassy staff in Ottawa sleepless night ,You write:”I wouldn’t be supprised if these people cheered at the elevation of despots such as Mobutu (DR Congo), Kamuzu (Malawi), Gardaffi (Libya), Mubaraki (Egypt), Mugabe (Zim),”.Silly cow, the despots you mentioned that’s were exactly Kaunda fits!

  50. South Africa has personally honoured him by giving him permits to run big personal business in south africa.

  51. “……. Dr. Jean Ping has since assured him that the first five prominent people who have so far been honoured by the organisation were not the last”

Now that they know Zambians are vexed over KK’s omission they will eventually honour him as an after thought. Do you really have to beg and fight to be respected? The AU’s selection criteria is also suspicious and questionable. If KK’s ommission stemmed from the misery he caused Zambians, then on that basis Kwameh Nkruma should also have been disqualified. These two started well democratically but turned into vicious tin-pot dictators who tormented their own people.

  52. I am sure the AU should have got wind of how Kaunda and the Winas looted the Barotse treasury and hid the BA Agreement from most zambians. Which history lubinda a re you talked about publish the history of Zambia first and tell the people the whole truth then im sure AU will look into that. Otherwise Kaunda is a devil and he knows it. how many pipo did he silence in order to stay in power.

  53. Wow!Haille Selasse? Then they should include Idi Amini,Savimbi,Charles Taylor,Mobutu,Mubarack,Gadaffi,Mugabe etc.The Au has always been a joke. They cant even build their own building…thanx to the Chinese!GOD BLESS ZAMBIA.

  54. Iwe @Larry #62, don’t be lazy. Go pick up a book and read about those two people you have inquired… while you were busy keeping refugees Haile Selassie was busy establishing whole towns for repatriated BLACK people!!! Patrice Lumumba was on the battlefront fighting against Western Hegemony (that is why he was slaughtered – a thing admitted by the Belgians)!!! READ!!! READ!!! RESEARCH!!!!

  55. Interesting comments. As one who is a sixties baby, I remember the struggles of independence. KK and Zambia do deserve recognition. What would have been logical would have been to recognise firstly the founders of the AU. KK, Nyerere, Tolbert, Nkrumah, Nasser, even Kenyatta. I think we have a crop of leaders at the AU who are totally oblivious of history and it’s role in fostering rationality and maintaining perspective. Mandela did great things for South Africa but many others gambled their  countries futures on him and others under the yolk of colonialism.

  56. Mr Lubinda, why waste your time, and the country’s time and resources, mourning about the exclusion of a tin pot dictator on Africa’s greatest list? KK does not deserve such an honour. The man is just lucky not to have spent some time in prison for all his misdeeds while he was in power. The country lost millions of dollars during his adventurous ‘liberation struggle’ which could have been channelled into infrastructure development. Zambia could have been miles away in development by now if we didn’t have this ‘scumbag’ as president for 27 years.

    • THAT IS THE POINT!!! It is called sacrifice! K K and ZED sacrificed MILLIONS OF KWACHA and many PRECIOUS LIVES of ZED citizens to liberate Africa. We should be the first to be honoured.

  57. This is a lesson to all Zambians, lets respect and honour our heros. Then they will respected and honuored world-wide. KK was supposed to be nominated as UN Chief when Chiluba was presido.. Due to stupid Zed Politics, Chiluba opted not to and Kofi Anani was nominated and become UN Chief… Seriously KK has done more for Africa than Mandela..

  58. Maybe it is because of the current “Ping Pong” politics from the AU…KK HAS played a vital role in african politics…

  59. Planning guys. You can’t just go attend a continent-wide summit such as this without looking at the agenda, can you?
I’d like to imagine that countries, including Zambia, had some kind of input as to what would be discussed. In this light, Zambia should then have added, “honour Dr. KK.”

You guys don’t want to hear this … but no one owes us anything! We have to do everything ourselves or nothing will ever get done!
If we want KK honoured, WE must honour him and make sure others honour him.

No one cares about Zambia; Zambians should care for Zambia.

  60. Kuno lila lila inge mapuyi, awa, mwa swabisa ba Zambia> KK was not honoured because the AU does not trust his trecherous behaviour of abrograting the BA64 and also of his stinking one party participatory democrazy fimo fimo!

  61. AU is a brain child of colonel mumur ghaddafi he resides in hell at this very moment.Lubinda should not waste his time with this insignificant issues ,after all what does the praise of fellow mortals amount to?examine the objects doing the praising?

  62. Southern Africa would not be what it is today if it was not for leaders like KK. Nelson was in prison for 27 long years and who suffered the wrath of the white racist govt of SA, you guessed right Zambia and KK. The western powers disliked KK, the USA & Britian because of his strong voice against the injustices they supported in SA (South Africa), but the man was relentless and won the hearts of many brothers in this region who had lost hope. And today the AU should tell us that the first 5 are not the last. That list is not complete without bashikulu ba Super Ken. Nelson owes much of his freedom to this comrade of his Kenneth David Kaunda. Ba Given am with you on this point 150%, let the new chairperson of the AU Dr. Zuma look into it asap.
