PRESS RELEASE
The MMD strongly condemns the continued harassment of UPND President, Mr Hakainde Hichilema by the PF government. President Sata’s insatiable desire to silence the opposition is bad for Zambia and bad for democracy. His plans against the opposition will not work as the Zambian people are resolved to defend democracy at all cost.
Opposition leaders around the world are expected to expose areas of government’s deficiencies with a hope that the government will do something about the highlighted issue. To Harass Mr Hakainde for visiting Evelyn Hone is to say the least cheap and a show of PF’s lack of understanding of the role of the opposition.
UPND and Mr Hichilema should not be intimidated in any way as the Zambian people are in support of the efforts the opposition is making in the country.
MMD shall continue to accelerate its efforts to represent the aspirations of the Zambian people and shall not be side tracked by insecurities of the PF government and Mr Sata.
The MMD further condemns the brutality of the police against innocent and un armed citizens who went to show solidarity with President Hichilema. Such conduct by the police is what has implicated world leaders who have ended up being charged by international courts. Police brutality is not part of Zambian culture and we are not going to allow it on our soil. The police are part of us and the PF should not use them to divide the nation.
Released by:
Dr Nevers Sekwila Mumba
President, Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD)
I dont think anyone wants to silence or destroy da opposition. We chose multi partism as a pipo n dere is no going back. Bt we nid a responsible opposion nt one da lies n causes confusion. MMD wz nt tolarate ba Mumba remember?
It was Aka who once told Michael Zondwe CNP Satan that should he one day inadvertently find himself behind the steering wheel in the corridors of power, presiding over a Bembastan cabinet, and the sun shining on his ugly face, he should not be troubled, because he is already dead anyway!
Pf and the post are hypocritical to the core, truly double standards!!. Compare these two links, by implication a country that has ZNS training up to university does in fact incorporate military esp that Sudan is not at peace. Kabimba since when did Zambia have an Uni exchange program with a country at war! http://www.postzambia.com/post-read_article.php?articleId=28705: Wh at do these two mean….http://www.postzambia.com/post-read_article.php?articleId=27208
good! tell them !
Ratty language @ #2.
Here we go again! Blindly spewing stereo-type statements without thinking.
Its not all about HH. Its law breakers, alarmists, liars, cheats and SINNERS. If HH has committed any of the above and refuses to apologise, he must go-in even if he hopes to be next Preso!
People voted for change – change for good not for bad. PF is taking Zambia back to the 60s, 70s, 80s. Where is the church? NGOs, educated and wise people in Zambia?
Boma ni boma don’t make ur own rules, u can visit evelyn hone college, please follow the right channels and when their speak/talk without bordering on issues that would make u arrested , like 1. Inciting students to revolt against government of the day. 2. Proposing young girls for sex at hone or zicas 3. Never defarm our beloved president
Chanda Chimba iii, hope you have continued recording underground what is happening in this country and bring to the fore in 2016 or before.I know you are paying a jusified price and the truth shall truly set you free. These chimbwiz will face the tune some day-God should just keep them alive.
The emerging facts about Sata’s political life-style, is that despite his harassment of the opposition leaders, this Mwakyusa has strayed into dangerous waters. The opposition parties are not his enemies. HH is a harmless gentleman. However, the main institution (CATHOLIC CHURCH) that vigorously and emotionally campaigned for him during the election is the same one that will pray for his lethal political demise. The prayers of the injured Catholic Priests will not go in vain. The count down is actively on.
there is more to coming .
As a Zambian I am disappointed at the way people are being used like sheep been led to slaughter by these so called opposition politicians. The elections are 4 years away and you are been used as if the elections will be next month. Getting beaten and tear gassed for nothing, please do something to uplift your life instead of  wasting time and pleasing the politicians who will never look after your families. Disgusted!!
Foolish followers do something constructive HH committed a crime alone and should not blame anyone. He has less followers and cannot win an election no wonder he has resorted to evil acts. Why is Miyanda not followed by the police he is principled he thinks through not under five HH.Opposion is not to create confusion
Ba Mumba go for your retreat. You were fired by Mwanawasa for saying something about the Congo. Now HH has not been invited by Oxford or Cambridge, so he decided to take himself to Hone to go and expound the poverty of the institution as left by MMD. How do you go to hold rallies in a college? HH was just disturbing the peace of that community. What makes you think that all those students were of like mind and would support his antics? Leave students to study, man. He could make his point about education without going there to look like he is a saviour. Just exposing the dirt left by your party Dr Mumba.
Dr. Mumba, advise HH that it is wrong to make careless statements involving other countries like you did about Congo, and that Mwanawasa fired you for that!
Bambo just go and pray, that’s all you know how to do. Leave earthly matters to politicians
Ooh does it mean freedom of speech is telling lies and insulting the authority?? Ba pator Mumba answer me. HH has been acting so childishly of late, alarming the people of Zambia with useless statements. Do you know what how people were unsetled when HH said PF has sent young people to Uganda to train as malicia? I think the pilice is wasting time, let HH be srrested asap.
Nevers you have spoken icileya.
What harassment are you talking about? HH is simply being asked to elucidate his allegations. If he cannot, he should apologise the the Zambian people, failing this, he should face the consequences of his childish manifestations on matters of serious national security and international diplomacy.
Mumba you speak this way because you don’t know what diplomacy is, therefore, the late President Mwanawasa sacked you from being his Vice-President.
you are saying we support the efforts that the opposition is making,if i may ask,wat efforts is UPND en HH making other than issuing false statements e.g the PF sighned a memorandum of understanding with sudan so that youths be sent there to be trained by sudan milittia
Zambia has all the characteristics of a failed State.
In a failed State, the police and the judiciary serve the interests of the President and the Party in power, and not the interest of the nation. In a failed State all key institutions are run by the President`s cronies and not professionals. That is the situation in Zambia right now. Very unfortunate!
Ba Dr. MUMBA, Evelyn Hone college does not teach political science, does it? What political lectures did HH go to deliver at the college uninvited? I could have accepted a statement from the student’s union about the state of the facilities in the college. Not HH going there to politic. If the students rise up to riot, instead of studying, whom can we blame? No wonder some people claimed that he followed his girlfriend.
Ba Dr. Mumba: You said and I quote, “…Â The MMD further condemns the brutality of the police against innocent and un armed citizens who went to show solidarity with President Hichilema.” I respect you but I disagree with you on this one.
The so-called un armed citizens names were not on the call-out for HH. Police were put in this position in order to carry out their duties. You are now entering the NO-SPIN ZONE when you start addressing things like that especially that laws have to be followed.
I don’t think we have laws that allow cadres to go to the police stations to show solidarity to anyone making claims about govt training militia in a foreign country. These issues border on national security and have diplomatic implications with concern countries.
Thiskind of Police Brutality is seen in failed states accross the globe. Sata and his supporters have no real understanding of free speach and free expression. There is nothing wrong with supporters showing solidarity for their leader. It is upto the police to take extra steps to ensure peace and sanity prevail. They can avoid this my first of all avoiding these rediculous call outs which are not legal anywhere else in the world. If the police have any case agaisnt HH let them file with the courts of law and let everything be delt with there and not outside police stations. Zambians learn to grow your democracy properly. Don’t just support Sata blindly because tomorrow it will be you who will be victimized by the next dictator who comes after sata has set this example. Bemba’s please!!
Ba bricklayer ubufutu. Here in the USA, the same police notices are called warrants. Don’t be a jack ass. The law must be followed by everyone irrespective of their political status. How many senators do you think are serving time here in the USA for abusing their positions? There’s no sacred cow when it comes to obeying the law.
The reasons for summoning HH to the police are clear but Sekwila in his usual knee jerk reaction skews it to suit his prejudiced agenda.
Nevers, why dont you implore your friend to do the right thing…retract his bogus and atrocious statement that he cannot corroborate and the case will be closed?
How hard is that?
While you are quick to condemn govt at every opportunity, you in the opposition are a cluster of arrogant, reckless leaders irresponsibly daring govt and the state, then cowardly and spinelessly cry harassment when challenged to account for your actions.
Your opposition tactics are pathetically nauseating.
Well said brother. These opposition politicians have just become a bunch of spineless shysters. They would like to taunt the government and spill lies and when they are asked to substantiate the lies, the cry foul and bring innocent poverty stricken cadres to be human shields for them. This under 2 has been offered an olive branch to make this go away, but probably because he has never spent a night in a prison cell, he thinks he’s tough. When he gets locked up, not even 20,000 cadres will get him out. This attitude of continously taunting the government, is not in the best interest of our country and I applaud the president for keeping his patience.
What happened to your healing powers?
You surely can help HH heal quickly enough and appear before the Police next Monday.
BR. Mumba,
Well said brother. I am increasingly getting worried by people like Nevers Mumba and a very large number of bloggers who evidently are not thinking very clearly. Any rational person, even one with a rudimentary knowledge of the law, surely must know that when there is police call -out for you, you don’t go to the police station with hordes of cadres to show solidarity with you. I have friends and relatives who have received police call – outs and I don’t recall them going to the police stations with chanting and dancing relatives and friends!
Pastor Mumba please advise HH to make an apology he should not swallow the pride he has committed a serious crime. You can’t go to public institution toÂ
make dangerous statements in th name of Opposion leader he has asked for it. Sata has nothing in this affair Police are carrying out its duties periodÂ
Honorable people can handle honorable differences and never demonize individuality … and what if it is the other way around. The opposition is busy harassing the government? I know where I stand, I am still UNIP to the core and so I am not in support of the PF but they have the mandate to rule.
You don’t have to issue statements just because others like Chipimo (who I also like by the way) are issuing them. You can groom yourself with your own identity because it is not necessary to comment on everything … you know I personally still love you (I don’t like your party though) but I choose to honorably differ with you on this public statement.
HH’s statements about militia training were reckless and there is not govt in the civilized world that would pay a blind eye to them.
Ba Mumba, dont just give support bcoz HH is the opposition like you. HE went the police station in the company of cows. What do you expect?
No. 7 Chanda Chimba is recording what is happening and he is going to bring them out in 2050, when UPND will have that learned that to rule a country you need to have a national appeal not regional.AS FOR 2016 FORGET
I see bena Siakalima just retiring quietly from politics and wishing they had done the correct thing- not to be regional
@zedson, I think you picked on B R Mumba wrongly, for he’s not supporting HH or Never Mumba. If you read his statements, he’s actually like most of us condemning what hakainde did and the subsquent support from mumba. No sane person is in support of either HH or Nevers’s tantrums supporting this under 2. Read BRM’s posting again.
Why should The Police waste time on HH…arrest HH as he is daring you. Why should this under five think he is something and yet he is not. Why has he feigned illness since he categorically said he would not report to the police station, let him be a man just as he thinks he is. Sata stayed in jail for 40 days during Mwanawasa, let also HH stay ther for at least 60 days so that he matures. Can he now prove that Goverment has sent young people to train as malicias in Sudan?? Let him not hide…fish HH out so that he tasts the cells.
Monkeys can’t run a modern state. Sata is primitive.
NDELOLESYAFYE!!!!!!
Ba Mumba wel spoken . Colleges are there not to support politician if HH feels the PF has neglected Evlyne HOne why cant he provide what the college is lucking instead of just making noise in the college and insight students to rise against the government of the day.
Am suprise! in this age Sata still has people who support him at the level he has run down the countr & its economy. Shame on Zambians without heads.
Am conviced HH is yet to do something to help the situation at Hone college & i just hope his charity to institution will not be a police case again. Viva HH your the only hope for the suffering Zambian masses. Indeed dont allow the Paya Farmer party(PF) to intimidate you, you are on case. Let Pf know that they have failled to deliver to the Zambian masses & they are busy majoring in manors. PF GO TO WORK & AGAIN I SAY GO TO WORK, STOP POLITICKING WITH YOUR PRAISE CHOIR THE POST & GO TO WORK. HH THANKS FOR BEEN THE VOICE OF THE VOICELESS.
So in zambia if u are opposition leader and you break the law police or state have no mandate to summon you and questioned, because doing so is  considered harrasment and intimidation of opposition by party in power. Here HH case can be a case study on how  zambian laws are not respected, the issue is that HH broke the law by issuing false allegation that could potentially cause diplomatic problems between zambia and sudan. Mind you sudaness are not happy  that they been in war for alongtime, they have struggled to find peace for along time.HH should apologise to both zambians and sudaness.
Govern youselves responsibly!!
The problem with PF tribal supporters is that they always want to justify the wrongs of this backward government. They would still find a reason to support Sata even if he slaughtered a whole community. Abusing the police to silence the opposition is wrong which ever way you looked at it. Firstly is it right for GMB to instruct the police to arrest an opposition leader? Secondly is it right for a crime suspect to be appointed DPP? Thirdly why did the police issue a call out on HH a day after he exposed the conditions at Evelyn Hone? Is that not political blackmail? Do the police have better issues to deal with than dwell on an issue that doesn’t add value to the wellbeing of Zambians?
And yet MMD president Nevers Mumba is tonga too eeh! Â We are not *****s like you tribalists. We are a very proud tribe but when a bemba makes a mistake, we call him/her on it irrespective of who he’s. You should ask the bemba royal establishment what they go through with the people they rule. Unlike you tongas, we are independent minded and have differed so many times with Sata when he says or does something which is not in the interest of not only bembas, but zambians as a whole. And yet with you cows, you are so blinded by tribalism you cannot see anything wrong in hakainde or a fellow tonga. By the way, there are more tribes in northern province than there are in southern and bembas are just one of them.
Ubupuba,we need matured politician not childish.and mind you police is there to maintain order.
Police Brutality is seen in failed states accross the globe. Don’t just support Sata blindly because tomorrow it will be you who will be victimized by the next dictator who comes after sata has set this example. Bemba’s please stop this!!!
@Zed patriot you are bad at debating. You mix issues. The case of the DPP is another topic. We are talking about the particular points raised by Ba Nevers Mumba in this letter of solidarity with Ba HH and his antics. The problem is that your leader is not addressing issues in a smart manner. He is abrasive to the law! E.g. 1. Talking innuendos about other countries carelessly. 2. Politicking in a college tantamount to inciting students.
Sata in the first place should never have been elected as President, he has out lived his usefulness. He is old and illiterate, he is just a kaponya and cadre. What a shame to Zambia? We are now going the Zimbabwe way
Ne chikopo bachibepeshafye. You are something very close to the stuff that comes out of a coachroch when it’s squeashed. It’s a shame that you probably use the same palatables to your father and mother after bakufyala, bakukusha, bakupipa amafi, and take you to school to finally become a man. And yet all you can tell them, is that they are too old and illiterate but walaba amafi walebanyela as a baby the so much sacrificed to raise. Â Unless you are not going to grow old and if your stupidity is anything to go by, your children will probably treat you worse that you do your parents if they are still alive.
Don’t make us start using words like ubukopo. We do understand that as an opposition leader, HH has every right to point out shortcomings of the government and offer better alternatives IN A SMART WAY! Not taking cadres to streets and getting beaten and going to a police station with trouble makers who end up being beaten, what’s that? Just courting trouble! Let him speak from his secretariat and go out in the street not to taunt boma.
You know what? You need to relax and take things easy because 2016 is as far off as a full mandate term in the USA, 4 years! You need to refine your approach. Bitterness as you express yourselves is even frothing on the mouths, wow. Stop insults because we can call you names. Grow up and become teenagers. Do you still use the under 5 card to record your weight. May be you are stunted.
Y send youths to a war torn coutry like sudan
Ba Nevers please tell us something worthwhile can’t you see that MMD might crumble.
UPND and MMD will fight in 2016 because PF will come up with a surprise candidate because MMD has lost it all they are saying is witch hunt and silence the opposition. Nevers is talking bull and he is not any better than HH.
HH play you cards rights and MMD won’t be in north western and western provinces that’s if PF does play it well.
The problem with ba “some of us” is that you debate about “what should have been” ignoring reality. Calling Sata all sorts of names will not change the result of last year’s elections. He is the president; get over it and strategise for 2016. I have also observed that the most bitter people are the priviledged or the educated who have travelled around the world, have businesses and can read and blog. Am afraid your opinions are irrelevant to political reality in Zambia. All the insults do not even resonate at all to the ordinary person on the street. U will need something special to win 2016; even to start a war of words naba kaponya will be difficult to win. Law, is law, just follow it.
# 12 Chindakwanda Galileo Galilie. Mr Sata has never been invited by Oxford or Cambridge. The so called invitation you talk about was by Zambian students at these institutions. Just like I would initiate among Zambian students at Manchester for Dr Mumba or HH to come and iform their stand and way forward in Zambian politics. Took interest in his talk which was nothing different from lies that Mr Sata is known of which you also can acknowledge that he knows nothing about democratic rule. These institutions do their home work before they request anyone to come and speak. In all fairness they know the raw level of education and his track record in politics. Watch CNN Shake Sailey ‘Talk Direct Program’ to confirm Sata’s dilema in Zambian politics.
HH should name the people who have gone for training as militias to support his point. I am sure a lot of Zambian youths can go because of no job. Maybe HH knows what he is talking about. We should not judge him for now. There is no smoke without fire.
Max Mbizo, etc PF supporters. Its on Zambian records that Mr Sata responded to a police call out with a horde of PF cadres and caused havoc that resulted in him being tear gassed. In case memory fails you, this was covered even by foreign news media, be alive to facts. What police need to learn is methods of policing these events. If Police kettled the called from the uncalled nothing of brutal kicking and intimidating citizens could occur. Freedom of speech can never be bequenched by Mr Sata and his PF. Democracy has taken root in Zambia and no amount of intimidation will dislodge it. We encourage HH, Elias Chipimo, Milupi, Dr. Nebers Mumba and all peace loving Zambians to defend this democracy and if need be, suffer for it for future posterity and not old rulers who are a misfit today.
@Complexity, haha, I got you thinking. That’s good. Please go ahead and invite HH to come and speak to you at Manchester. Let him explain his vision and strategies for Zambia. That will be better than his cat and mouse games with the police. Do it fast. Man, that little jab of a statement has produced its intended effect. The fact is that Sata got that chance to speak to those students when he was aspiring.
@Complexity, are you saying that what Sata did, and you condemn him for many things, is good enough for HH to copy? Then how smart or modern is your HH if he is employing the “Sata strategies” of getting his cadres gassed? Let him copy speaking to scholars at Manchester so that they analyse his thinking before he enters state house, if ever. Doesn’t matter if invitation is by Zambians or Martians. Why not talk about water supply?
Mwaice Nervas, tulemona you are not there tell us anything you liar.
Infact you are the worst person you ran away from your own party for riches and now you behave as if every thing is ok with you. You destroyed Victory Ministries and now God IS HUNTING YOU MWANA.
@Chindakwanda-Galileo Galilei: In case you don’t follow news items properly, the root cause of the farcas that took place on Thursday was the DPP’s instructions to the police to callout HH. Now Mutembo Nchito’s timing of the callout was deliberately meant to divert attention from the issues HH raised on the Evelyn Hone issue. Nchito knows very well that HH has no case to answer so he was either trying to please his boss Sata(so that he gets pardoned over the 14 billion kwacha) of he was instructed by Sata to sort out HH as a way of potraying him as a bad person at time when most people were impressed with the issue he raised. An impartial DPP would refuse to used in settling political scores but a compromised crime suspect will lick the boss’s a.r.se.
Cnp followers its high time u stated to reason.this country is being mismanaged by cnp
@Complexity, I am aware of that instruction from the DPP. That is within his functions as DPP. The fact still remains that a file existed in the DPP’s office about HH’s alarmist statement. And the instruction was fair enough, retract the statement. I know this is tough for a politician. Man, I totally agree that ALL our institutions need a heavy touch of repair. But it should be responsibly highlighted, not to fan discontent among scholars!
Comment above meant to be a reply to Zed patriot. @Complexity sorry.
I remember very clearly just last year when president Sata was still in opposition and the police were busy persuing him, @ DEC etc his cadres used to accompany him. He is now the president of Zambia. HH learn somthing from this. HH dont give up!!!
As I said before, yangu tata mayo ee ba Sunday Mwila ifyo balufyenye, to have allowed his daughter marry this false prophet of doom. No wonder Mwanawasa fired you because you cannot see beyond your nose. Sudan already a country that has been besieged in war and would not hesitate to attack us for intentionally provoking them. I dread to even fathom how fast you with take the MMD to their political cemetery you initially took your former party the NCC. If you have nothing to talk about, shut up man. You have so many skeletons in your basket.
Keep up the fantastic piece of work, I read few content on this site and I think that your blog is really interesting and has got circles of fantastic information.
