Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD) president Nevers Mumba says the party will not defend any of its members convicted of corruption.
Speaking during a media briefing at the party secretariat this morning, Dr. Mumba has since proposed to the next sitting of the National Executive Committee (NEC) that any leader in the former ruling party who has been convicted by the courts of law should step down and allow the due process of the law to take its course.
Dr. Mumba has also proposed the formation of the Anti Corruption Committee within the MMD to monitor any activities that could perpetuate the corruption tag in the party.
He says the committee shall also work with the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) to expose the alleged corrupt practices that have engulfed the Patriotic Front.
And Dr Mumba has accused government of scheming to persecute MMD leaders using investigative and security wings.
He has since stated that in determining the fate of any leader facing corruption allegations, the party shall distinguish between political harassment and a case based on justice.
And Dr. Mumba has described the just ended party retreat as successful.
He said a number of changes have been made which shall be submitted to the NEC for final adoption.
He says the party has also appointed an adhoc re-branding committee which will look into the recommendations made at the retreat in preparation for the unveiling of a new MMD to the Zambian people.

Don’t start again. Today I might not have the strength to run to your rescue. Don’t offend the Zambian man. He is the best that you can ever find on any day, anywhere. at any time. Your Father was the best Dad that you ever had. A step Dad would have probably cast you into the wilderness. Respect and show gratitude to the man who ensured that you were born.
Also, appreciate the re-branding that MMD has embarked on. It is unprecedented in the history of our multi-party democracy. If we all gang up together, we can actually influence all the political parties to do self-cleansing like MMD has embarked on.
Dr Mumba this is the way to go. Present yourself as a team worker, counsulting and listening leader than one man show we have now. Make the NEC the centre of power and embrace the collective responsibility concept. This is the tenets of participatory Democracy the Zambian people want. I do not think a party anti-corruption wing is a good idea. Instead a shadow Cabinet with various committees chaired by your shadow Cabinet members. The cabinet should be seen to be working by producing public statements, challending their opposit colleagues in governemnt. This will enable your shadow cabinet to learn and be prepared for governance. You should present this team to the Zambian people as a government in waiting, fit for purpose and serious people to be trusted by Zambians.

UMMD shadow cabinet is great for Zambia. Advocate for leader of largest opposition(govt in waiting) be in parliament to lead opposition on policy,and alternative approaches officially. Sata is dancing to Mmembe’s choruses. SATA has been held at ransom by Mmembe. Now SAKENI is dancing to the post zed tunes. Mmembe engineered entrance of his friends Nchito DPP, Mwenya and Malila onto Sata’s govt for control….uly, It’s govt of Mmembe, for Mmembe, by Mmembe…..has no control of Mmembe’s directives. Nevers seems to 4get that there is still 4 more solid year before the next elections.Window dressing in politics wont take him far. He should walk the talk and not be over the roof with the MMD presidency.He should know that within his ranks he has a number of opportunitistic characters including himself.Zambians dont want cosmetics in addressing their problems but concrete solutions,not just day in day out shouting your opponents flaws. The MMD has no programme for the country including all the other opposition partys

You have a very tough assignment, Nevers. The three statements above can be very difficult to sought out and deal with them. There are an intersection set puzzles and MMD membership can not readily solve them. The solvers could end up being found to be the corrupt elements. Not easy, but wish you luck. Â Â
The shadow cabinet in MMD won’t work because it is the currupt individuals that are powerful in the party.It is these same people who bank rolled Never’s campaigns.If say Dora is included in the shadow cabinet,who will take MMD serious?And if such people are left out,who will finance the party?This shadow cabinet thing will actually bring divisions in the party,though the idea is good.The only interesting shadow cabinet can be that of UPND,I will start pushing for it.

The continued inclusion of GBM in PF government is disgraceful and pathetic. This man needs to leave PF govt and save the shame of Mr Sata. GBM is openly corrupt, openly involved in office abuse and arrogant to Zambians particularly to Zambians in uniform, army. airforce, police etc. Surely Mr Sata can pay off GBM and save himself being taken as fickle and worsen if his personal integrity. When everr Sata talks about fighting corruption GBM says Sata is talking to himself—- what arrogance and shame of PF govt to Zambia!. Zambians will have their last say on PF governance. Offences committed while in govt haunt offenders in retirement.

@prof: If you can refer to MMD as a party without any program for Zambia; for sure its because you deliberately have chosen to blind yourself. However its your freedom of choice and that is one of the greatest achievements of the MMD; creating a society where people are free; you can even choose to become mad.
