EMBATTLED violent William Banda has publicly apologised to the Nation for assaulting and attempting to strangle Muvi Television cameraperson Lloyd Kapusa at Woodlands Police Station on Wednesday.
But Mr Kapusa who was reluctant to accept the apology from Mr Banda said the matter was being handled by lawyers and could not comment further.
Mr Banda, who is special advisor to United Party for National Development (UPND) President Hakainde Hichilema, claimed that the pressure of what he termed as persecution that he was going through, forced him to act in the manner he did.
Meanwhile, Mr Banda has been summoned atWoodlands Police Station where he has to report at 12:00 hours over the same case.
He, however, denied any attempt to strangle or beating up Mr Kapusa, saying he was merely trying to grab the camera from him so that he could not film him as he was under so much pressure.
“It was not my intention to act in that manner. I was under so much pressure, the time I was being summoned to the police, my grandchild had collapsed, my elder brother had a knee injury following an accident, so much was going on,” he said.
He said he unreservedly apologised to Mr Kapusa and also apologised to Muvi Television management, who requested him to put it in writing.
He said it was unfortunate that some people had politicised the whole matter without understanding the pressure and situation he was in.
“I have no problems and I am not ashamed to apologise. People, who know me, know that I am not a violent man. I am going through so much, and it’s amazing that this issue is being highlighted like this, yet people who razed my house after the elections have not been arrested,” he said.
On Wednesday, Mr Banda assaulted Mr Kapusa for filming him when he was being taken into police cells after being arrested for being in possession of property believed to be proceeds of crime.
Government, the Zambia Union of Journalists (ZUJ) and several other individuals and organisations, including Mr Hichilema condemned the violent act displayed by Mr Banda.
Mr Hichilema assured journalists during a Press briefing held at the UPND secretariat of total protection and also apologised on behalf of the party.
“Media, do not be afraid, you are our friend and we assure you of maximum support. When we error, you must forgive us, you are free to approach us whenever you want,” he said.

How does an apology to Lloyd Kapusa turn into an apology to the nation? If anything it is Sata to apologize to the nation for lying about unachievable campaign lies and going back on his promise of a lean cabinet & govt.Mr Banda can behave however he wants since it has no national implications.No apology needed.

Wonders shall never end, this special advisor to Hakainde, should not even waste time, if really he is apologizing to the nation, let him also return the plots he illegally grabbed from people and allocated to himself.
Also ask Hakainde to apologize to the nation for collapsing our once vibrant companies during privatization. If these two boxers are men enough, let them do that. Otherwise they will remain a bunch of thieves.
@Enka, you guys have been spoiling for a fight since Micheal Sata won the elections. Being civil should not be misconstrued as being cowards. If you knew Sata was lying and you never voted for him, why do you keep complaining. The president has shown resilience that even shocks everyone of us supporters including the genuine political leaders in Miyanda, Nawakwi, even the criminal lawyer Sir (kuduma) sikota.

Even on Mutembo Nchito and Fred Mmembe’s case concerning the DBZ K18 billion,why not ask RB why they were not arrested and imprisoned when he was president?

As for William Banda, he was a champion of violence even after he was brought back by Dr Mwanawasa. The only difference is Micheal Sata is a former police officer and a political science major. Convince him william if you are innocent.
Micheal Chilufya Sata is no one’s fool and for us that experienced the wrath of stupidity under Dr Kaunda knows better. Insulting him is actually more dangerous than castigating his failures. Despite his weakness W Banda is a decent man, at least he has apologised for his failings. Unlike the ugly dictator at state house who has failed to apologise to the nation for sending his brutal police thugs to brutalise innocent citizens in public view(with camera men filming) and the publicly congratulated the police thug he commanded to perpetrate the violent act. The real gentleman HH has also appologised publicly on behalf of Banda. This is what you call leadership quality not the hooliganism coming from statehouse.

His apology is being seen in the context of his past acts. Remember Mumfumbwe, Chongwe, Lusaka fracases. Everyone sees this man with his past vividly unforgotten. Once deported to Malawi, why? The man has

He is so manipulative, a conman and easily convinces parties to accept him but his motives are beyond comprehension by any party leaders. He is a man to watch. His tag is really not a plus for UPND. I feel sorry for UPND. Initially I thought William was a mere member which was still bad for the party but to have him as advisor that is as low as one can get. Now I believe when people say HH is desperate to get to State House and will use anyone that he thinks can get him there.
On the apology I am of the view that it is made with the view that he should not be arrested. After all DPP has given a precedence in HH’s case where all that is required not to be nabbed is to apology to the nation or withdraw a statement

Bought company after being involved in privatisation consultancy, assessing worthiness of the company, means the particular buyer was an interested party who used inside information to buy the company after reporting undervalue assessment and that is the kind of corruption others have hinted on. Implication with it is that someone might have undervalued the company with intention to buy the assets.
