Police raid two homes

File picture: Former Lusaka district police commanding officer Greenwell Nguni wears recovered mask and a rifle recovered from criminals during a public display of the goods at Lusaka central police station.

Police have recovered from Mtendere and Woodlands three vehicles and guns belonging to the four suspected notorious criminals gunned down in Lusaka on Friday afternoon.

The suspected criminals were shot by a police crack squad when they attempted to steal K420 million from a Greenbelt Fertiliser accountant.

Lusaka police commanding officer Solomon Jere said three Toyota Corolla Sprinters, three pistols, two AK 47 rifles, two retractable bags, and some live ammunition have been recovered from two homes.

Dr Jere said in an interview in Lusaka yesterday that the items were recovered with the help of leads on cell phones found on the bodies of the slain criminals.

“We found these items in two houses in two different locations – Woodlands and Mtendere – where the criminals were hiding them,” he said.
The criminals, who were armed with AK 47 rifles, were killed after an exchange of fire with police who thwarted the crime following a tip from the public.

Dr Jere said good training and the preparedness of the police enabled them to effectively thwart the crime.

He said the criminals had several pistols and 32 rounds of live ammunition at the time of the exchange of fire with police.

Dr Jere said police are making headway with investigations into the matter and are receiving overwhelming response from members of the public.

  1. But why this the cop tempering with crime scene evidence, wont it useful in getting to the bottom of this issue.

    • He has no IDEA WHAT EVIDENCE IS & HOW TO HANDLE IT!!!
Reminds me of those dark ages, when the conquerors had killed, took talisman off those they had killed as a symbol of taking & inheriting their powers/energies!!! Another tragedy of failed education & attempt of a step towards civilisation!!!

  2. Imwe ba Linyungamoyo, this is a ‘file picture’ and they have also said ‘former’.
Anyway, good job Dr Jere. Lets strive to keep Lusaka crime-free.

  3. Don’t these guys watch CSI why play around with evidence ,these fellows need a lot of schooling not just firing guns at targets.

  4. I hope the pardoning is done carefully. Maybe people with minor offices like shop lifting tooth brush or such other small offences serving short jail terms. Not hard core criminals. You end up fueling crime again.

  5. But how can Mr Nguni, Lusaka CO put on a recovered mask from the crime scene? Doesn’t that compromise forensic evidence? There is DNA that can be adduced from the hairs found on the mask! Now Mr Nguni has added his hair to it. What a shame.

  6. give thanks where were its due not politicking always, the police did a recommendable job,why you people try to find wrong in things which a right .Siding with criminals won’t help

  7. After an exchange of fire on a Friday Afternoon. all the robbers gunned down. NOT arrested live, but gunned down. how possible everytime wanted criminals are found, they are gunned down and not arrested. any casualties on the police officers?

  8. Get also william Banda, why has it taken so long for police to deal with him? Is he using sme juju, the katele K formula…..can’t be outdone?

  9. Why is he wearing the evidence? He is contaminating the evidence so its rendered usueless in the courts. So I take it that when a life is taken by the police the are not invistigated independently to make sure sure all was excuted within the law cause they the police themselves are not above the law. On that point i salute you for the hard work you continue to do in such hard conditions in trying to protect the public.

  10. No.12 Whatever date it was. It was unprofessional for Mr Nguni to tamper with forensic evidence. No wonder criminals are always gunned down because they cannot be properly prosecuted with compromised evidence.

  11. @15, good comment, I’m wondering the same thing.  I’m also wondering what the tip was; perhaps from the would-be robbers themselves?  Maybe kapokola decided this time to go for the glory of the shootout instead of the cut from the crime.
