Information and Broadcasting Services Deputy Minister Mwansa Kapeya says government remains committed to providing an enabling environment where people are free to express their views.
Mr Kapeya said government has put measures in place aimed at creating a conducive working environment for the media in order for them to catch wider views from all sectors of society.
He said the media plays a very important role in helping people understand the good policies it has put in place.
Mr Kapeya was speaking when he paid a curtsey call on Eastern province Minister Charles Banda in Chipata yesterday.
The Deputy Minister who is on a familiarisation tour of all public and private media institutions in Eastern province has since reaffirmed government’s initiative to support all media institutions operating according to their licences.
And Eastern province Minister Charles Banda said there is need to equip members of the public with vibrant information that will enable them make informed decisions.
Mr Banda said the media in the province has shown tremendous strides in disseminating information on various government projects closer to the people.
He further praised the media in the province for playing a key role in disseminating information on the recently conducted measles campaign.
ZANIS
Is this the same old Mwansa Kapeya of Zambia Broadcasting Services….. if so God help us where are all the young brilliant brains I don’t want to believe this. :o I remember him on the programme “IFYA BUKAYA” and many others on Radio Zambia.
You cant fool us okey, we have already seen your ways!
Ala bwafya mwandini ba Michello. We’ve left the country for the old guards. It maybe our fault since we all seem disinterested.
You are right my dear. The lack of interest is more bewilderment than anything else we were cheated and expected a lot alas! Look at the lack of co-ordination one says this the other is saying something else one wonders if they ever sit down to discuss matters affecting the nation as a cabinet. It’s like he appoints his people and tells them run it the way you want or the best way you know how. By the end of three years the country will be so backward or will lack progress since he keeps appointing and removing them at will before they settle so quickly so they can’t work like that.
If government is committed to ensuring that there is freedom of expression why is Malupenga victimising UNZA radio? Is this one of the PF’s usual ways of governance where they keep on contradicting each other? We are just watching.
pls mr minitster sir educate bwana mulenga about these freedom of expressing, becoz you will be shocked to find the other unza radio closed.
We’ve got eyes, we can see whats happening……
#1, WHERE ARE YOU BLOGGING FROM YOURSELF? ARE YOU NOT ABROAD OR OVERSEAS?
Freedom. It’s what we do with it that counts. This is a country that gained freedom only to shift goal posts on its own combined heritage and now makes it treasonous to express disagreement with the status quo. The freedom of expression anti one tribe or another is freely expressed up here. Distasteful at all times but people are free to do it as well as diss everything else they feel like dissing. This is a non issue for anyone abroad and you know it. On the ground, however, expect dragging feet because just like individuals, governments are sensitive about knowing others freely disagree. Swallow hard and move on.
Mr Kapeya said government has put “measures” in place aimed at creating a conducive working environment for the media in order for them to catch wider views from all sectors of society.
“Measure must be the most abused word by government officials. What are you doing about corruption? ans we have put in place “measures”. what are you doing about the economy? ans we have put in place “measures”. what about crime? guess what? we have put in place “measures”.
Governments do not know what freedom of expression is. Ifntheynwant to know, let them ask zambianwatchdog, lusaakatimes, barotse detainees and HH
Most important is the freedom after the expression. African leaders love to be praised and do not take kindly to any form of criticism or opposing views.
Eeeeh, it is always measures. measures. measures, they are now putting measures in place to be voted out in 2016 without knowing it. balekeni.
More like freedom of expression but no freedom after expression! Typical of banana republics!
Ilyashi mu chibemba, newalebelenga nine Mwansa Kapeya.
Ifyabukaya.
From a news caster 2 deputy minister? oh my God! by the end of 2015,evry bemba wil b employed in gvt. i wil soon change my names 2 Chikala Chobe Bwalya 4 my own gud.
Zambia ranks 44th on the failed states index with number 1 slot being taken up by Somalia. With what PF is doing we will slide down the index even lower
Guys naimwe what is wrong with a newscaster becoming a Minister? Bus Conductors and Railway porters have become Presidents. Politics is not restricted to any one profession
