The Zambia Police Service command in the north western province has declared that it is ready to handle the Mufumbwe parliamentary by- election scheduled for November 8, 2012

Provincial police Commissioner Eugene Sibote said in Solwezi today that police have adopted a plan for the Mufumbwe by election which will ensure adequate policing of the electoral process from nomination day to the post election period.

Mr Sibote who did not elaborate on details of the security plan said police have made adequate preparations to ensure that the forthcoming by election is violence free.

He said the Police Service is going to deploy enough security officers to the area as one of the measures to ensure that peace and order is maintained in Mufumbwe.

The police commissioner also said that the service has engaged all the political parties participating in the Mufumbwe by election as key stakeholders to holding a peaceful by election.

He however stated that police will not hesitate to take action against anyone who will come into conflict with the law during and after the by election campaigns.

Mufumbwe Constituency experienced fierce violence during the April 2010 by-election.

The parliamentary seat fell vacant early this morning following the resignation of MMD Member of Parliament Steven Masumba who resigned to join the ruling Patriotic Front-PF.

  1. UPND and MMD will split the votes in Mufumbwe and Stephen Masumba of PF will carry the day. There is something in common between HH and Nevers Mumba. They all believe in take take or win win situation. Musumba boasted that Nevers Mumba has gifted the Mufumbwe seat to PF. I thought Masumba was joking kanshi he meant well.

  2. LT journalists, please masumba did not resign, he was expelled from the party…please give people facts not false information. If you fail to report correctly on such simple issues, how do we trust your reporting on more complicated isssues

  3. were do these reporters come from, read your last sentence, did masumba resign early this morning?i thought the government was regulating beer drinking by restricting sale of beer on sunday so that you guys are sober on monday, but i guess for you guys there is no change

  4. HH will never work with leaders from other tribes apart from Tongas. I saw the downfall of UPND/MMD pact immediately we where told that Nevers is the president of MMD. HH will never work with Bembas. The man hates Bembas. The hatred he has for Bembas is now costing the country the democracy it is supposed to enjoy. It seems UPND has no men with big Bolls. why not chase the bugger and reorganise the party which is slowly dying a natural death.

  5. This bye election should have been avoided if these politicians reaaly save the people. Rememeber the violence in that area last time and William Banda is on the loose.

  6. NO 4 IT IS YOU BEMBAS WHO DO NOT WANT ALL THE INTELLIGENT AND HARDWORKING TRIBES TO BE PRESIDENTS.I DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY BEMBAS SHOULD RULE OVER EVERYONE.COME 2016 EVEN THE BEMBAS ARE GOING TO VOTE FOR HH.YOU BEMBAS ARE BITTER BECAUSE YOU HAVE NEVER OWNED ANYTHING YOU HAVE WORKED FOR APART FROM RIPPING THE COUNTRY OFF IT S RESOURCES.GO BACK TO BEMBALAND WE DO NOT WANT YOU IN LUSAKA
