Konkola Copper Mines (KCM) Chief Executive Officer Jeyakumar Janakaraj has revealed that the mining firm will next month facilitate

Chipolopolo’s training camp to India ahead of the 2013 Africa Cup finals.

Janakaraj said KCM is  partnering with FAZ in helping Zambia prapare to defend the AFCON title in South Africa.

He noted that the African Champions needs to up their game after struggling to qualify for the Africa Cup.
Janakaraj was speaking to journalists in Chingola on Wednesday.
“We (Zambia) sneaked (to the AFCON) with the grace of God, so we need to play better than that.Right now there is an engagement going on to take Zambia for a training program in India,” Janakaraj said.

Last November,KCM sponsored a similar training camp where coach Herve Renard indentified midfielder Nathan Sinkala prior to the 2012 Africa Cup finals.

According to KCM Communications Manager Shapi Shachinda,  his company is currently engaging FAZ to draw up the plan and the dates for the India training camp.

  1. Come on KCM, if your sponsorship is as genuine as we have come to believe it is, do not dictate where the team goes to train! We are not going to play cricket with Pakistan but soccer with African countries. India though a beautiful country is not known for football, so what are we going to learn there, whom are wqe going to play friendly games with there??

Besides, the tournament will be in South Africa and the weather in India is not simmillar to South Africa, camping there will just disorient our boys. If you are serious, release the money, let FAZ take the boys to Brazil or Spain so that they line up serious friendlies and we lift the cup second time, we will salute you!!! India, no, sorry!!!!

    • Muletasha. As much as I agree with you about lining up good freindly matches,I don’t agree with you in totality.Come December and November Spain will be cold.Probably snowing. What we are looking for are proper facilities.Properly equipped gym, nice training grounds and other amenities which I think are available in India. The only thing is we should be allowed to eat nshima even if it means everyday.Change in diet for sportsmen can prove disastrous.Freindly matches are not about playing tough teams but meant for team or system jelling.
      Thank you KCM.
      Epashili pakuleka.

  2. I second number one. the india outing would be appropriate for a cricket team. Please KCM send us to Europe we need quality friendlies not train with teams we shall beat with cricket scoreline.

  3. I can’t b surprised about camping in India because it looks like we are specialized in camping in opposite conditions. Anything wrong with RSA? Ba mwenye want money to go to another family tree

  4. I have a different view. Last year we went to India where we camped for about 2 weeks. The results werre lifting the Africa Cup. So let us repeat.

  5. These muppets need to send the team to SA not anywhere else.
Wy send the team to India when the tournament will be in SA

    • When going for football, its better you go singing, coming from somewhere.. Hosts never sings, camping in South Africa would be extremely boring, its already boring anyway. Someone said Botswana, or Swaziland.

  6. According to KCM Communications Manager Shapi Shachinda, his company is currently engaging FAZ to draw up the plan and the dates for the India training camp. The name of this man is funny, why SACHINDA?

  7. These chipolopolo chaps have been camping in RSA for games played in East Africa. Now that the tournament is in RSA they want to camp somewhere else??

  8. These are all Kalu back-room shady dealings how can you be training in a different hemisphere when the tournament is being held in RSA. Why not stop this nonsense and just construct modern training facilities here in Zambia…. excuse Jeyakumar Janakaraj he is an Indian and he wants us to go and train with small football teams in his home town. When are we going to have serious administrators in Zambia and do away with these corrupt thieves.

  9. Just like this upcoming international friendly in RSA on 14th November…waste of time why not have the game at Levy Stadium, we are the champs, we deserve to host a match; why should all deals be conducted in the dark far away from home.
Moreover this game is sheer waste of time for us as RSA is lowly ranked than us on the FIFA ranking table..if anything they will benefit more if they beat us; we should arranging games with the likes of Mali, Ivory Coast, Algeria and the rest of the top ranked teams.

  10. Three weeks before the 2012 afcon, zambia camped in india and they won they africa cup!
-Manchester utd have also been camping in india.
So what’s the fuss?how I wish the team can also camp in afghanstan!lol

  11. Awe ti one. Maybe there are special boosters they are given ka.They are quite good at their own medicines. Remember when the president went he came back brande new.

  12. Thank you very much KCM for this gesture.I don’t understand us Zambians. We are not going to India to learn how to play football but to take advantage of the training facilities. The only thing we should not forget is to take our chefs from the army to coock our nshima.
The other advantage about being in India is that the boys will be focused on training and not club trotting. The chances of them sneaking out in SA are very high.Who knows may be that’s why we did well in the last Africa cup!India here we come.

  13. I do not support the idea of camping in India. this is the time we need the team to camp in RSA. We made similar camping mistakes in the last few games! Like the games against Sudan and Uganda, we needed to camp in east or central African countries with weather similar or closer to those countries and if possible arrive early to aclamatize! the sponsorship is welcome but the choice for the camp venue must be left to the FAZ technical team to decide. :x

  14. Bad carpenters always blame their tools. Training in different weather does not ultimately spell doom; it is your skills that matter. East African athletes train in their hot countries yet they win the London marathon year-in-year-out. Show gratitude when someone offers to meet your expenses.

  15. we salute u kcm, but why was hon kambwili in for front bragging that its the govt that gonna sponsor the training of the team. what in the world was he trying to say, or maybe there will be two training preps before the tournament kickoff, one in India another one somewhere.

  16. India kaya mwe, the boys will loose weight, no beaf just distinguishing vegetables full of mpiripiri. Practicing ulefwenya pamatako..

  17. #17. Altitude is a big deal in a game like soccer which is so physical. Don’t show your ingnorance here. The best place to camp is SA. Remember Brazil played inTanzania before the world cup Why. India trip has some hidden agenda’s. Not soccer . You don’t have to be a rocket scientist to firgure this one out !!!

  18. SEND OUR BOYS TO BRAZIL OR ARGENTINA AND NOT INDIA FOR HEAVEN’S SAKE. How many soccer players are there in the world from INDIA! These KCm thieves are just good for nothing but corrupting us.

  19. if it’s about better sports facilities then let them camp in south africa because i believe south africa is much better than india in all aspects.

  20. The friendly aganist RSA should be cancelled. Before the AFCON in RSA 1996, we played Tunsia at Independence stadium & whacked them 2-0. Come AFCON semi finals Tunsia turned the tables around having done their home work & beat Zambia 4-2. Come Kalu syop seeing things in a moypic focus & wake. You are destroying our reputation further than is neccessary, pleeeeze! Camping in India is also tricky, bring the boyz back to RSA two weeks before kickoff to final-tune the squad. As for friendlies lets play at least Cameroun, Libya, Eygpt or one European team. Belive me the draw will be tough & we must be prepared for tougher game than at AFCON 2012. Finaly selection of players must be unbaised bring all the foreign based boyz; am talking of Fwayo Tembo, Rogers Kola, Collins Mbesuma, Clifford Mulen

  21. Fellow Zambian soccer fans, we should not let these guys go ahead with the camping in India, it makes no sense and will prove counterproductive. We suppossed to be plotting the fall of biggerteams like Nigeria, Ghana and Ivory Coast who will be baring their teeth to exact revenge. We need to go a step further, camp where friendlies will be useful, Span we do the tik taka thing, Brazil, we add the Samba flair to our game, Argentina, if we cant, just RSA itself but line up credible friendlies. Playing South Africa may also not be a prudent thing, there is Cameroona nd Egypt who have not qualified and can offer more meaningful opposition! Unless someone is eating with both hands or the KCM is not giving genuine sponsorship, NO INDIA TRIP FOR THE BOYS!!!

  22. People will always contribute whether positive all negative. He has offered to take the team to India coz: i) thats what he can afford and. ii) He wants to show his family that he is a big shot in zed.
Lusaka Cholera you are ryt India is giving us some lucky. If you hv a probelm then send them to Kasama and pay for them.

  23. Do FAZ & the technical team or bench of the defending African Champions have a vision plan? Do they have a say in these decisions? I don’t mind wether we go to India or Jupiter for camp. Just whose prerogative/job/duty/right is it to decide what’s the logical venue for our boys to camp? Funny thing about sponsors is, they will only value u as much as u believe you are worth. Remember Barca & their prolonged refusal to accept any ad on their kit? They held out till someone coughed up the right digits. We are African Champs for crying out loud. Companies should be jostling to be mentioned in the same breath as CHIPOLOPOLO. But if we stay hang over the begging bowl syndrome, we are just another auction item for whom whoever pays the piper will keep calling the tune

  24. Reply @1 :Bondwe: Ulichipuba, Ukutasheshi? The CEO of KCM is Indian? What nonsense is this? He wants the money in his country. The tournament will be held in South Africa, why can’t they use SA, Namibia, or Europe if serious? KCM makes billions out of Zambia why should an Indian Hotel / Club benefit? What football is in India?

  25. Bakulu ba Nchito, (whatever the job, probably it is cooking or herding animals). I am not sure you know much about football. During Gabon/Equatorial Guinea, Zambia was able to improve as the tournament progressed because no one paid much attention to them, they were outsiders and therefore not under scrutiny. For next years tournament, Zambia will be the team to beat, much like Senegal, Ghana and Ivory Coast were regarded, so shoddy preparations are total recipe for failure. You want to take them to Ingombe Ilede in Southern Province and slaughter cows for their meal????

  26. I say why not let the boys set base at Potchefstroom center for high performance in the North West Province of South Africa. I bet the hosts will be at the University of Pretoria high performance center. So why not take up the second best facility South Africa has to offer. We are the champions!!! Kalu is RSA based he should know best.

  27. Which God is that KCM- untouchable referring to that helped Zambia to qualify. He prays to a cow, don’t teach the Chipolopolo boys to burn incense before matches. Jehovah can not hate Ugandans and choose Zambians better, we call that ukutumpa.

    • Nostradamus, read your bible properly the God in that book always takes sides. He is known to have been taking sides whenever Israelites were fighting so-called gentiles like the Phillistines etc so why cant he take sides in the Zambia Uganda game?

  28. #17 training in different weather does exactly that: spell doom. You always go for training to a place that mirrors the weather in the competition’s host venue. If you will be playing in Johannesburg (High Altitude) and you train in Livingstone(low altitude) you are in for a beating because you will tire easily in Jo-burg.

  29. That phrase,’We sneaked to AFCON’,from that Konkola expatriate who wishes to build his CV speaks volumes of the on song Chipolopolo (as i read from several bragging bloggers).Note that your sports minister branded that the likes of the Cranes are ‘small & struggling teams’,imagine after watching the two matches whic kept him and his compatriots on their toes. Why dont people get a leaf from the Great Kalu’s moderate comments?! With a goal from a faulted throw-in in Ndola whic shudn’t have stood, the aggregate score shud hav been 1-0 in Uganda’s favour. You must be swimming in great shame for riding on cheating and gambling in order 2qualify for AFCON 2013.Tetwabamattira mmwe!

  30. what about last time? did we not camp in India. themoney is coming from KCM in Chingola and not your pockets. its just a training camp Zambians!

  31. @Kasule 37 Year after year Ugandans blame cheating for failure to qualify for the Nations cup finals. Arent you tired of that lame excuse? Zambia has no bone to pick with Ugandans so stop looking for perceived enemies to blame. The first step to greatness is to start blaming yourself for whatever misfortune you think has befallen you.

  32. Guys u’l not always qualify by the skin of ya teeth and will not gamble for honours 4ever,lady luck will walk out on u one day! …….and with that type of display of yours over two legs,ur not defending this one, even the presence of Africa’s creme del creme wil be there to test u,i bet my bottom shilling u’re not!!
There interesting luganda proverbs 2alert u: ‘Kyotanalya tokyesunga’; ‘Omusajja gy’agenda gy’asanga bassajja banne’; ‘Okalya dda kadda dda’ ;’Akaami akatono okanyomera mitala wa mugga’

  33. Malinso appears to have a small empty brain, why insult someone innocent instead of discussing the matter on hand. Are you a Zambian, or you are bitter you don’t have something tangible on your plate? I agree with others, India is not about finding out the strength Zambia has, but to do propoer workouts, beach training, excellent facilities, quiet atmosphere, etc. Brazil recently played Iraq and beat them 6-0. Do you think the 2014 World Cup hosts have no brains?
