Home Affairs Minister Edgar Lungu has encouraged Members of Parliament aggrieved by the Public Order Act in its current form to put forward proposed amendments to his office.

In a ministerial statement on the Public Order Act delivered to Parliament today, Mr Lungu said that as far as government is concerned, the Law in its current form is a good one adding that its existence is therefore justified.

He says opposition political parties should understand that the right to hold public meetings or demonstrations is not absolute, A statement that attracted sharp reactions of disapproval from the opposition benches.

Mr Lungu explained that by their very nature, public gatherings such as rallies and demonstration are potentially explosive.

He also pointed that by merely giving notice to the police for a public meeting is no guarantee that such a meeting should go ahead.

Mr Lungu stated that the public order Act is necessary to the country in order to keep public order.

  1. When did you regain sober-ness sir? I understand this mourning honourable members requested you to be breathalysed, because you were speaking intoxicated lol If what is being reported  in this article is correct, I think you should take a bit more water to be truely sober

  2. I think our politicians need to grow up. Just last year the MMD members were praising the same law they are criticising while the PF were criticising the same law they are praising. Nothing lasts forever, strive to make good of our Country when you still have the power or authority to do so. Look beyond yourselves when making laws and put yourselves outside the corridors of power and take your great grand children into account. God bless us all.

  3. Its goodness depends on which side of P.O.A you are.Today its good for PF tomorrow it will be bad for them and good for others. What a circus.

  4. if a drunk man can say the law is good, then it must be good! look who supports the law, the serpent, fried mmembe, gbm and kabimba both who are now bitter.
