United Party for National Development (UPND) leader Hakainde Hichilema says ZESCO’s concern on the long term supply contracts of power that it has with the mining companies is justifiable.

ZESCO has complained that the long term supply contracts it has with the mines which consume 50% of the total power generated are not cost reflective.

Mr. Hichilema has explained that the long term supply contracts were signed at a time when the copper prices had drastically reduced.

The opposition leader has noted that conditions to help resuscitate mines therefore had to be agreed upon.

Mr. Hichilema adds that now that the mining companies are reaping profits from the good copper prices on the international market, it is only fair that the supply contracts that they have with ZESCO are re-looked at.

Mr. Hichilema in an interview with QFM News has indicated the need for the mining industry to start paying reasonable tariffs noting that the mines are currently only contributing about 6 % direct taxes to the treasury per annum.

  1. #1 Monk Sq Analysis – you LOSER and KAPONYA, that is not the argument here.

So in your shallow mind it is alright for Mines to keep riping off ZESCO just because they signed a deal with MMD which has gone into bed with HH? How shallow can you get.

What kind of shallow reasoning is that and I certainly question the sanity of whoever gave you the keyboard to type in the first place.

HH has raised a valid debate and this problem is not only affecting ZESCO, even ESKOM here in south Africa has the same problem with their contract with the mining giant BHP Billiton for their aluminum plant which is paying virtually nothing for electricity.

I support HH, we need to relook at these contracts.

    • There is no need to start insulting here. Just let out your wisdom and people will understand. The fact is that those contracts need to be looked at and you have stressed that point. So insulting just makes you look like you are the same calibre as the person you are whose sanity you are doubting. Keep being on the sane track, sir.

    • Iwe chi #6, pack your bags and go back to Zambia and face the reality of what mmd did to this economy instead of yapping each time your under 5 cries as if its not just abt 13 months ago when you were in the fore front supporting everything your stupid and useless party did. That’s why you look like that coz tautontonkanya sana.

  2. It clearly shows that parastals need to operate on value for money unlike being always wipped by politicians. It is very surprising that lesser attractive parastals are buoyant (e.g Zampost) compared to ZESCO with already massive GRZ capitalisation i.e GRZ grants whatever you call them! ZESCO need ro skew the value to providing power to the mines Vs. offloading to the domestic consumers or let alone export! Which one brings in return with minimum cost of sales? Of course one would argue that the mines has a multiplier effect but guess what; ZESCO is not a “HOPE Foundation” to subsidise operating costs.

  3. This is a dead issue knowing how PF is running things, the mines pay a lot of money not to the treasury but in Sata’s pocket no wonder the last time he advised the mines to be careful of people collecting money from the mines in his name, does this ring any bells !!
Am sure should the Zesco Boss pursue this noble cause he will be retired in the interest of the Nation.

  4. I 100% ,totally agree with my HAKAINDE HICHILEM he knows what he is talking about. Its you to take form Sata, who has failed to honour his promises he lied to the many out there.

  5. Ordinary citizens pay alot of crazy TAXES in Zambia as though that’s not enough we also been made to foot Zesco bills on behalf of the Mines. The Mines are destroying our roads, polluting our water supply and atmosphere putting the very poor citizen whose not even getting anything from the proceeds of the copper into Hospital Museums whose only Job is to give Prescriptions and wait for you to die to be put in the morgue.

  6. I 100% ,totally agree with my PRESIDENT HAKAINDE HICHILEM he knows what he is talking about. Its you to take OVER from Sata, who has failed to honour his promises he lied to the many out there.

  7. I PETER THE MAN OF FEW WORDS DO HERE DECLARE THAT OUR COUNTRY ZAMBIA IS VERY POOR DUE BAD LEADERSHIP FROM SATA AND PF,,INDEED NEEDS PROPER ECONOMIC MANAGERS. H.H FITS A LOT TO RUN OUR ECONOMY BETTER THAN SATA.

  8. Kwekwe and Peter, your dream for HH to ever rule this great nation is a pipe one. For you, Sata in state house is a nightmare. Continue dreaming because HH CAN NEVER, I repeat, HH WILL NEVER RULE ZAMBIA. Like I always say, your dream can only come alive if cows and its dung will be allowed to vote. ahahaahaha

    • @ SABAILA..if Sata a grade 2 is in state house then it simply means anyone can be president in zambia including HH whose cv is more richer than sata. HH has a masters and has a succeful business.

  9. @1, Monk Sq Analysis, you’re so useless and retarded. I wonder, like @6 MMD Chief Bootlicker, wondered, who even allowed you that keyboard in the first place you shallow minded scorpion? Bane it’s use our brains to think not our d!cks.

HH good point, worthy debating :d

Once more, @1 Monk Sq Analysis, may the good Lord have mercy on your soul!!!

  10. Well done HH. This is positive opposition where you even offer solutions. This kind of approach will get you votes. Well done again

  11. Thanks HH for such a seasonal thought, our hearts continoue going to you. We need more of HH’s caliber in Zambia then our country will be somewhere in terms development. Bravo Chief HH.

  12. HH that is what makes you different from other politians in Zambia. Keep it up, you very useful to the Zambian people even now. Thanks.

  13. @Natasha #25,

What makes him different from other politicians is the fact that he is not a politician himself. Non presidential material. I feel pity for him.

    SELENI TUBOMBEKO!!!

  14. HH always goes against the wind. When the nation is talking about other things? he brings up Mines tariffs which were agreed upon by his alliance mates. This man needs our prayers.

  15. @ Hande # 27 you are a fool & should be feeling pity of yourself instead of feeling pity for HH who wants to offer service to the suffering Zambian masses. HH is a tested leader who can make a difference in the lives of many Zambian & already he is touching many Zambia lives through his businesses.

  16. “HH you are bitter, just concentrate on reorganising your party and 2016 elections, the mines are happy and so is Zesco” . I think by now we know which fool will say this.

  17. @Natasha # 29,

What services can he offer? Zambia is a country and not those companies he runs. He is tested where? In the political field he has been a total failure. Don’t be misled that because he has been a successful businessman then he can be a successful politician. It doesn’t happen like that. Why have the political fortunes been dwindling ever since he took over the leadership of the now regional party? Results and evidence are there for everyone to see. Even in his businesses he pays his employs ama change. A pre-qualification for being employed in his businesses is tribe. What sort of a leader would that be? National or regional?

  18. This is a very good proposition by HH as he was the one who negotiated and put in place these tarrif plans for the mines as a consultant. This is also a subject worthy debating with legal minds, how bidding the mine contracts are? A lot of detail is where the devil on this matter lies. Can Hichilema again go back to the mines, this time as an emissary of the Zambian people and reverse the clause in the contract that covers the ZESCO tarrifs to the mines? If HH really means well, let him send a proposal to minister of energy to do this, that will be a man helping the nation. I like this particular insight though I would never vote for HH as he is not a politician.

  19. haha @Natasha, Hande and Male cow are all one person debating himself. One can tell from his same style of writing. WHATS KIND OF MADNESS IS THIS. SERIOUS MENTAL PROBLEM…..lol. Thats what cleaning whiteman’s poo can do for some diasporans..lol

  20. Come 2016 we will vote these CNP out of government & vote in HH for a better Zambia. The youngman has very progressive leadership ability that can move Zambia forward. HH you are bitter that is what pathetic fools know to say against HH. Viva HH our president in waiting.

  21. Fully behind HH on this one, the mines are enjoy a free lunch in Zambia god knows what other agreement these guys have signed with the gov’t. Only in Zambia can this be happening.

  22. HH giver us the full details to back your point, otherwise i will just conclude that you are playing cheap politics as usual.

  23.  joel
If you have been following the news lately you will remember that the ZESCO CEO said something along those lines; the need to review mining tariffs…should we look at everything through cadre tinted lens? Let’s be objective….

  24. For once HH is making sense instead of just opposing for the sake of opposing. I ma sure even PF agree with this. If I was Sata I would appoint him to renegotiate these tariffs with full powers.

    • @Hande from your behavior you just do that. how do you debate yourself?RETARD…@Hande, Kayombo, Natasha kakakakakaka…poo cleaner

  25. i concur with HH for the second time now although i love Sata.U r very right. What u av spoken needs to be supported by every Zambian and not politecally.

  26. ‘Let the old HH stand Up.’ This kind of important national benefitting issues are worth your salt brother HH. You are so right mines ZESCO tarrifs ought to be reviewed like ‘yesterday’ Where have you been basankwa?

  27. I loved as much as you’ll receive perrmfoed proper here. The caricature is attractive, your authored material stylish. however, you command get bought an edginess over that you would like be delivering the following. in poor health indisputably come more in the past again as precisely the same nearly very incessantly inside case you defend this hike.
