AFCON Trophy Tour Euphoria Thrills Katongo

Lusaka football fans yesterday had an opportunity to view the AFCON trophy and have a photo of them taken with Chipolopolo captain Christopher Katongo. Above fans take photos with Katongo at Arcades Shopping Mall in Lusaka.

Chipolopolo captain Christopher Katongo says he is thrilled to note that several months after Zambia won the 2012 Africa Cup, local fans are still eager to look at the converted trophy.

Scores of fans in Kitwe thronged Stanbic Bank on Thursday morning to view the AFCON trophy accompanied by Katongo who is the bank’s envoy .

The seemingly excited fans formed a long and meandering queue to catch a glimpse  of the trophy which was heavily guarded by several armed police officers during the two-hour Stanbic Bank organised public event.

Speaking to journalists, Katongo said the fans’ unending interest in the trophy is a motivation to the  Chipolopolo Boys to work hard at next year’s Africa Cup in South Africa in a bid to defend the cup.
“It’s exciting to find people still celebrating over the cup we brought into our country Zambia. This is giving us strength to work hard and bring back the trophy next year,” Katongo said.

  1. ‘converted trophy’ anyway I can guess what the writer meant. You have to use extra wits to understand what LT is talking about.

    • The guy in a white shirt must have been taking a photo with Katongo. As you can see Katongo’s right hand is resting on the boys shoulder.

  2. Is this another trophy, other than the one they were queuing for in February when the one from Gabon was going around the country? People have nothing sensible to do; better queue for melie meal and other commodities in short supply!

  3. Katongo you are very inspiring in your words. Every time I listen to you I get the feeling you aren’t a soldier. You sound more like a Motivational speaker. Renard, good choice for captain. With him I’m sure the boys will bring back the trophy.

  4. Guys big up for you May God be with you nd next bring it back home, mwilaba ne mipashi ya banensu abatushile ku Gaboni,=d>=d>=d>=d>=d>=d>=d>=d>=d>=d>=d>=d>**==

  5. 2 all ZDS where ever you are plse go to BBC and our beloved brother katongo, co’s without yo votes, we are letting down our brother and all the chipolopolo in general, so go vote now??**===d>

  6. Ichipuba # 2. We will go in history as the only country (I think to have defended) the trophy within a year buu!

  7. katongo cannot win the AFCON player of the year due to the fact that the players up against him play for reknowned clubs. Not Chinese construction !Drogba Chelsea and winning the Champions league. Yaya and Man City winning PLS. Katongo Africa cup but not much publicity as the mentioned. Prediction Didier will win this !!!

  8. well said @15 Mbuzi, but it just shows you the calibre of the man, despite his humble background, katongo can still stand face to face against the greatest of talent and the more reason why he is the best of the best……bravo soldier boy!!!!
