The Solwezi- Lusaka Scania bus belonging to Juldan motors on fire as passengers watch helplessly

Over 60 passengers travelling from Solwezi to Lusaka yesterday afternoon escaped unhurt after the Scania bus caught fire before it was reduced to ashes. This happened near Chindwin barracks in Kabwe

The bus belonging to Juldan motors which is suspected to have developed a fault was burnt beyond recognition while some luggage were also burnt in the inferno.

Passengers watched helplessly as the bus was consumed by fire.Soldiers from Kohima and Chindwini Baracks were seen taking photos of the burning bus as civilians tried to salvage some property from the burning bus.

By the time the Firemen from the Kabwe Fire brigade arrived the bus had already being burnt to ashes.

Eye witness said they noticed some smoke coming from the engine at the back seat of the bus and later alerted the driver who stopped and later discovered that there was fire.

Other passengers felt that the soldiers should have assisted evacuating passengers and removing the bags instead of joining the passengers in watching the bus go up into flames.

Most passengers interviewed looked shaken and could not believe they had survived without injuries.

And driver for the bus who identified himself as Aaron Chikwanda said that bus was in good condition and refuted complaints that it was faulty.

By late in the afternoon yesterday the passengers were still waiting for an alternative to be transported to Lusaka.

  1. Thats the problem of buying used buses, cars and trucks. Ford had grounded a fleet of 89,000 of their latest 2013 SUV because they say the engine is not fire safe and are looking for a remedy. Once they get it, they will fix all the vehicles at no cost because its a manufacturers fault. Now, that can’t be done when you buy used vehicles.

    • A re-call can also be done on a used car bosses. My 2011 toyota camry was re-call for a fault on the seatbelt. I still has manufacturers warrant though I bought it used. Accidents happen. It has nothing to do with used vehicles. And most of these buses are bought new from brazil

    • The problem may lay on maintainance. Most vehicle owners in zed do not follow guidance books given to them when they purchased the vehicle in question.. They may overlook or wait until a fault happens before conducting km maintainance. Another thing is that new cars should not be driven at higher speeds until they become one year old.

  2. Praise be to God for the saved lives of the passengers. What! Soldiers also joining passengers to watch the bus go to ashes? I thot soldiers are also trained on how to put off fire. Let us render help people of Zambia where where it calls for us and we kno we can do it.

  3. I drove by this accident at 14:00 hours, the bus had already burnt down. All we could see was the frame in the second picture.I stopped and inquired about the safety of the people and was told they were all safe, but I could still see some clothes and travelling bags smoldering. It is very sad that this countrys’ city councils have neglected to invest in fire fighting equipment. As if the situation was not bad enough, we had military personnel watching an inferno? This is unacceptable as military barracks are suppose to be prepared for all dangerous eventualities! How did this bus pass by all road blocks by RATSA and Traffic cops without a fire extinguisher? The luck of seriousness that exists in this country is nauseating at least. JULDAN must compensate the passengers without delay!

    • You points in your startment.. However I do like to ask you. Is it lawful for public vehicle to have fire extinguisher in them? Do you have yearly car inspection to determine that it is road worth and certificate issued which is valid for a year? Example here (ZBR-258) iNSPECTION MONTH IS August every year and (TMC-143) INSPECTION month is March every year. This inspection appllies to all vehicles older that 3yrs from manufacturer.

  4. Saad story, and that incident happened within town center of Kabwe but no firemen to quench the inferno. What a shame to us as a country, we’re still 100years behind in terms of development. how can u explain the mediocrity of firemen in the photo who arrive wen the bus is completely gutted??? Hope Juldan Motors insured the bus comprehensively, otherwise its a big lose.

    • Not everyone has the opportunity of being in diaspora, i wonder why you call this nonsense, it was an accident, we have worse situations in many countries outside africa than what we have here…such happenings dont choose where to happen even where you are it can happen…so be reasonable your comments.

    • liar you definitely have no access to the news in that fake diaspora country of yours. Check out the Japan accident.

  5. Does it mean all types of fires in Zambia are put out using water ? It seems to me like water is always the first resort be it a gasoline, paper or electric caused fire.

  6. This accident happened so between our 2 barracks? No fire fire tenders? Zambia a peaceful nation indeed? Thank God for the lives saved.

  7. Now I know not to count on any of those soldiers to defend me or our country of Zambia. They chose to take pics to upload to Facebook instead of rushing to help people out and help with their luggage. What compassion is this??? May we not know War in this country because they will be the first to run. Disgusted is what I am…

  8. In the army you only operate on orders so if the commandant was not available to give orders, then you expect such from soldiers! that is why we have majors like Kachingwe who are hounded out of the office by small boys even after telling the whole nation that it would take a buldozer to remove him from the office! Shame indeed.

  9. These guys are satanists, it seemz rhere are starting christmans sacrifices to there god satana, icisoka cikote camasengo ten, devil lucifer, shonongo. why are you doing this to us???
you will be burnt like the bus itself. stop it in the name of Jesus.

  10. Plz boma zambia needs emergency vehicles -fire engines with qualified personel Ambulances with qualified paramedics who will swiftly attend to emergencies with passion to save lives
