First Republican President Kenneth Kaunda blesses former minister and permanent secretary in the MMD government Jazzman Chikwakwa who announced his resignation from the opposition party to join the ruling Patriotic Front

Former Minister and Permanent Secretary Jazzman Chikwakwa and founder member Christopher Ngoma have defected to the Patriotic Front (PF) in the presence of First Republican President Kenneth Kaunda.

The duo’s move comes barely a week after MMD’s Lusaka District chairperson Donald Chilufya resigned from the party last week.

Mr Chikwakwa and Mr Ngoma announced their defection at the residence of Dr Kaunda in Lusaka’s State Lodge area yesterday.

The duo’s announcement was preceded by a visit to the graveyard of the late former First Lady Mama Betty Kaunda led by Dr Kaunda’s son, Kaweche, where Mr Chikwakwa prayed.

Mr Chikwakwa said announcing the defection in front of Dr Kaunda was owing to the former Head of State’s recent advice to the nation to support the Government of the day in a bid to develop the country.

“I want to take this opportunity by fulfilling your call. You remember that you called on us, as Zambians, to support and give encouragement to the current President, Michael Chilufya Sata and his Government, the PF Government, as he has put programmes that could yield good results for the people of Zambia.

“His developmental programmes, from what we have seen, can make Zambia another paradise again. So, when we evaluated your call, your appeal to Zambians, I for one, your Excellency, I have decided to follow it and declare, take advantage of your presence that I resign from the Movement for Multi-party Democracy, which is MMD, and with immediate effect,” he said.

Mr Chikwanda said President Sata’s continued creation of new districts was a way of taking leadership and development closer to the people thereby cutting down on the distance they were being subjected to access services and wondered why people should argue with such programmes.

Mr Chikwakwa advised the MMD to support the incumbent Government for the sake of national development and thanked the former ruling party for having allowed him to serve in various positions and was quick to say that he was not a job-seeker.

Mr Chikwakwa also observed President Sata’s continued recognition of Freedom Fighters and embracing of various traditional leaders, saying respecting chiefs was tantamount to respecting God as they were chosen by God besides conveying his condolences to the Kaunda family over Mama Betty Kaunda’s recent death.

[pullquote]“Young man, thank you for taking this decision. Support that man. He does not look at a man through glasses of tribe. He does not look at a man through glasses of colour. He does not even look at a man through glasses of flesh…He accepts one Zambia, one nation. All of us are God’s children. You are doing the right thing to come and join him in this great struggle,” Dr Kaunda said.[/pullquote]

Mr Ngoma said he could not say anything to announce as Mr Chikwakwa had exhausted everything he wanted to say.

Dr Kaunda said the defectors were making a good decision by choosing to work with Mr Sata and his administration, saying he was the first one to appoint Mr Sata as the first Lusaka District Governor because of his impeccable qualities and was thankful to God that after going through so many “Pits” and “holes” he had finally become the Head of State.

“Young man, thank you for taking this decision. Support that man. He does not look at a man through glasses of tribe. He does not look at a man through glasses of colour. He does not even look at a man through glasses of flesh…He accepts one Zambia, one nation. All of us are God’s children. You are doing the right thing to come and join him in this great struggle,” Dr Kaunda said.

Masaiti District PF chairman Stardy Mwale declared MMD as “totally finished” in the area, among others, adding that the defection of the duo was a “big plus to PF” as it was going to easy his job to recruit even more of such people from the MMD and other parties.

  1. We dont want bamuselela kwakaba, we want people who will work for the Zambian people…Bakamba Ba KK are you in your right mind plus are you a PF cadre?? Enlighten us please

How much has PF given you kanshi??

  2. This has in the past been described as being involved in active politics. Ubupuba bwa ba Kaunda is manifesting itself yet again. Old man, sit the hell down and keep the little dignity you have…..do you think Zambia belongs to you or that you have the monopoly of wisdom shuwa!!

  3. Kaunda the recruitment agent of pf! What a shame,i now understand why this old greaseball is never recognised internationaly.

  4. Political promiscuity in zambia is getting out hand.Opportunistic leaders who have no firm stand politically are the reason why zed is still undeveloped since they can’t even firmly decide where to lead themselves.Hopeless chancers and self seeking sharks.

  5. isnt KK involving himself actively in politics!!! we will push to withhold his benefits. let him concentrate on charity work.

  6. Ba ngoshe laeve Kaunda alone chalimikalipa ba opposition mwalilusa ama election akunweni fye ameshi pa bench.PF still ruling this country and they are doing very fine and they will still win in 2016.

  7. No wonder this fool called KK is overlooked on the international scene when it comes to recognizing African leaders…is he out of his senses? shame on him

  8. Allowing those satanic and demonic anointed hands to be place on their heads.its finished for these guys. The programme of GOD moving ahead.removing the chaff.THE BATTLE IS THE LORDS.

  9. What a bootlicking KK.
No wonder RB is inernationaly recoginised and being invited by many.
Can th children of KK tell the old man that he should be non partisian.
He should be the father of the nation.
Kk is being happy that PF kicked out MMD which had kicked KK out.The old man is ful of revenge and a little shallow mined person

  10. When RB was involved in politics PF threatened to withhold his benefits,so whats going to happen now that KK is back into politics? I think its a bad move for KK ,he is the father of the nation and is above PF.He should be father to all not seen siding with PF over MMD.  or perhaps its payback time to boot the party that booted him out of power in 1991

  11. Mpongwe MP Gabriel Namulambe has resigned from the MMD to join PF. Am sure KK is waiting to lay hands on him.. Will by elections ever end more money is still going to waste

  12. CREATION OF DISTRICTS IS A NOBLE THING. IT’S ONLY AN ***** WHO DOESN’T KNOW WHAT IT MEANS. SERVICES WHICH WERE SOURCED AFTER TRAVELING LONG DISTANCES FOR DAYS WILL NOW BE ACQUIRED LOCALLY. WHAT CAN YOU ASK FOR? AND THIS IS THE PEAK OF AN ICE BERG. THERE ARE MANY MORE THINGS TO COME OUT OF DISTRICTS.

    • Don’t be so naive iwe! If you can’t provide adequate services with the existing  districts how can you cope with more? Yes it may be a good idea but where is the supporting infrastructure? You need a defined plan, not just waking up one morning and creating a new district as is the case now. How much was allocated to these new districts in the budget?

  13. Only that most you were too young, under KK, but few of us experienced that “.. chisokone chisokone, ushasokone mwana wa Ndoshi”. “.. you $tupid id1ot”. Am not sure if I will comment anything good when KK dies soon.

  14. MMD is slowly becoming pure and a good party to belong to coz all the thieves have migrated to PF we wanted a change but what do we have Masebo, Luo, Saken, name them all MMD am ditching my part heritage party(HP) to join MMD i will hold a press briefing please tell ba post and watchdog to cover me at 12hrs

  15. INSULTING ADULTS LIKE KK IS WHAT IS MAKING MOST OF YOU ZAMBIANS HAVING A REDUCED LIFESPAN. DON?T TELL ME THAT THOSE BOYS THAT WERE DRUGGING KACHINGWE THAT DAY WILL EVEN EVER SEE THEIR GREY HAIR.
BIBLE SAYS CHINDIKA WISO NA NOKO PAKUTI UKENDE INSHIKU ISHINGI PANO CHALO. REMEMBER THOSE GUYS ARE STILL ALIVE JUST BECAUSE THEY HAD EARS AND RESPECTED THE ELDERS.

  16. KK is like Noah. Calling all of us to get into the ark. Those who will enter will survive . Those resisting will perish. Jazzman Chi-ka-la and Namulambe they know this . They will survive.

  17. There is a respectable way in which you can criticise elderly states men and parents without sounding like a deviant. Most bloggers are young & cursed as indicated by # 33 KANOWENE. Bloggers calling KK names & insulting him are not fit to be alive in the eyes of the one true God Jehovah. We have a social & spiritual obligation to respect our elders. I rest my case.

  18. Ma politics ya nsala! Gabriel Namulambe has also defected to PF. We don’t need such politicians in this country. We want principled politcians who can survive even in opposition & not those leaning to a party in power so that they can fatten their stomachs or make their court cases disappear. Shame on PF for accepting these disgruntled chaps!

  19. What blessings can KK the man accused of atrocities against many prominent Zambians bestow on anyone? Looking at that picture is like a very bad omen.
The few Zambians who had some ‘respect for this old man are now thinking twice.
Zambians must open their eyes and realise that this KK is still very bitter that he was kicked out by forces of democracy, he never had any intention to ever handover power to anyone. He is an angry and dangerous old man.

  20. Bane PLEASE !! napapata!  iam by far non partisan, but those of you  INSULTING the Great father of our Nation KK are digging your own shallow graves like #33 correctly pointed out, there is a more respectable way of pointing out wrongs done by eldery Sates men and our senior citizens and not using these words…..PLS for the sake of your own lives and your childrens childrens STOP those insults and Apologise. KK  will support any Party that comes into government that is his role. If MMD comes in power he will be obliged to support them as the government in place at that time.So PLS Stop it in the name of God.  and long live KK

    • @Sammy Bwalya,
If there is anybody disrespecting the ‘Great father’ of the nation it is KK himself. Respect is earned and if you don’t respect yourself and you openly engage in treacherous activities you will not be respected. Look at Mandela, a true statesman highly respected worldwide and KK cannot claim the same. Mandela is leading a quiet life away from partisan politics.
You say KK will support any party? He has never supported the MMD or democracy and he loved the slogan, ‘Ku mulu Lesa, pansi Kaunda’, Can you say he has any respect for God?

    • KK participating in active politics makes him fair game for attacks, thats just the way the game goes…I don’t condone insults though.

    • Make my grave 2 feet deep (or shallow if you so wish) and i shall gladly lie in it than respect an elder person who does not respect himself/herself. KK has no business being a political cadre moreso when he chews my hard earned tax; i pay it through my sweat for him to be chaperoned around like a cheap prostitute.

  21. Whats the difference between MMD and PF? Pf has Sata, scott, Masebo, Shamenda, Luo, Namulambe, Masumba just to mention but a few. So thez are recycled politicians who have nothing new to offer the pipo of Zambia. We are doomed as a country and we need forgiveness from God

  22. With all due respect, just what the hell is KK’s position Kanshi? All this time, I’ve been supporting him while at the same time empathising with his heavy burdened old heart Kanshi bamudala ba KK’S in ba cadre? Wooooooow!
I read somewhere that Sata’s realigning his ruling “style” to that of KK’s? Boy o boy, I told you guys, this is just the beginning of what is to be one of the worst times in zed politics.

I feel like my vote was wasted.

  23. I think Zambia does not deserve mediocrity. I knew those two men in Ndola. I dissapointed their wives by going after other women. Ckikwakwa had a girlfriend, who was a nurse. She lived in my neighborhood.

  24. I am sickened of this cliche, ‘KK the father of nation’. What father of the nation? This limelight seeker is a mass murderer and a brutal former dictator. The sight of this shallow minded vindictive old man makes my stomach churn. At this stage in his life he should sit quietly in retirement with dignity enjoying his state pension rather voice his divisive political views in public. Its only a couple of months since the passing his wife, why should people be sympathetic when he lacks sympathy for himself . Where are the oppositon leaders that watched Sata persistently threatened Chiluba and Banda for withdraw of retirement benefits.Lets hear from Miyanda,Nawakwi and Chipimo on these petinent issues for once.If they are threatened by KK’s presence, then they are not worth it.

  25. You cannot always leave the opposing duties to Nevers Mumba and HH, otherwise democracy is already defeated. There are lot of job seekers out there. Bamuselela kwakaba- politicians of no principles or substance constantly defecting from government to government. Where do they stand..? Pathetic. KK must be stopped at all costs from engaing in active politics and globe-trotting at tax-payers cost. We have a lot of job-seekers under the age of 60 who are capable of doing a better job than chi Kaunda.

  26. KK is innocent in this issue, people are busy making their own choices.Country men and women, where is that first PF member of parliament Lupososhi,Hon.Musonda?is he still alive, for I know the second one my former neighbour is late Hon.Manda may he rest in peace these are some of the true politicians I envied and made me like politics te isho impempenembe nga shamona kwacha yaleka ukwingila kula butuka butuka fye,ba fibashi mu bible kano fye ukotabomfwile ati Yesu ali uku.

  27. FAILURE TO INVEST SOME PEOPLE FIND IT DIFFICULT TO SURVIVE OUTSIDE POLITICS, IF NOT GIVEN POSITION THEY WILL COME BACK SAYING WE ARE SORRY FOR SUPPORTING WRONG PIPO

  28. Please leave ba KK alone.KK is convinced that Sata can deliver.Cheers KK we love you and may the Lord ricchly bless you.A leader is a risk taker.Sata has scored som much in very little time and the opposition are very bitter.Creating districts is a major development and no one will take away from HE MCS

  29. POLITICS IS A GAME OF NUMBERS. BUT CHARACTERS LIKE JAZZMAN AWE MWANDI. BY THE WAY IS THIS THE SAME MAN WHO WAS AT ZAMPOST. THE SAME PEOPLE EATING THE NATIONAL CAKE WITH EACH NEW POLITICAL PARTY. I THINK NEW PARTIES SUCH AS NAREP NEED TO BE SUPPORTED SO THAT WE HAVE NEW BLOOD IN GOVERNANCE.
